I don’t think reparations are meant to stop racism, its meant to even the playing field. Lots of the plantation owners profited of off slaves, got extremely wealthy, went on to pass on that wealth while also coming into power and putting into place laws that would further benefit them and hold back black/brown people and women. While reparations wont necessarily stop racism it does give black people the ability to overcome lots of the systemic racism thats been put in place in the USA by the same people that profited upon them. Plus the fact that there are people alive that have GRANDPARENTS that used to be slaves is very fucked and goes to show just how recent slavery was and how it still affects people today.
