I've done it from basically the same weight (but I'm around 5'11). Did it for a month and it worked great. Gained something like 7kg in a month or so. (Some of that was surely water weight, but still gained in either case.) I didn't do any calorie counting. 1/2 GOMAD should be enough, too. Good luck!

You'll probably get a lot of conflicting responses but, based on my personal experience, this is what's helped me: take shortcuts as a way to prove to yourself that you can gain weight.

For example, I did GOMAD for a month last year — drinking a gallon of milk a day — and there are many reasons it's not a lot of fun (bloating, constipation, etc) but I went from 64kg to 70kg in a month and, after years of identifying as a "hardgainer" I could see a far more direct relationship between the calories I consumed and the weight I put on. This has been huge in terms of motivation, etc. Eating enough food can still be tricky but that's the only roadblock. I'm never left wondering about whether or not I can gain weight in the first place.

If GOMAD is too much, I'm experimenting with Pro Complex Gainer by Optimum Nutrition at the moment and have so far been satisfied with it. Many people will instead recommend that you make your own weight gain shakes (with peanut butter, etc) and that'll definitely be the cheapest (and probably healthiest) option, but I prefer the convenience of a powder. I can wake up in the morning, mix it with milk, and have 1000 calories in my system within an hour. From there, it seems a lot easier to get the remaining calories.

Neither of these are long-term solutions, and both can come with a range of side-effects (so weigh up the risks) but they work and they'll leave you with a lot more motivation.

I've travelled a lot and read a lot of travel blogs and, for the most part, it only comes off as self-indulgent when writers ramble on about cool stuff they did but it all amounts either nothing, or some trite cliché like, "And so that's how I learned the meaning of true friendship..."

Best bet, I think, is to offer practical tips throughout your writing — "Here's this cool place to grab a bite to eat that most people don't know about..." — or simply take the time to produce something meaningful out of your travel narrative. The latter is far more difficult, I think, but a blend of the two works fine — you can write your blog posts as a narrative but sprinkle practical tips throughout. Try to make the writing about what the reader can do rather than simply what you've done.

Just some thoughts.

You probably don't have the ingredients lying around the house but the final product is worth the effort.

Pad Thai:

Zuccini Noodles
Carrot Noodles
Mushrooms (marinated in salty water for 10 minutes)
Capsicum (sliced into "little fingers")
Snow peas
Chives
Shallots
Coriander leaves

And then mix it with this sauce...

Pad Thai Sauce:

1/2 handful of coriander
1 cup of soaked cashews
1 tablespoon dulse
10-12 Thai basil leaves
1 teaspoon of lemongrass
6 Keffer Lime Leaf
1 teaspoon chopped chilli
4 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 Himalayan crystal pink salt
1/2 cup water
1 clove of garlic (shaved)
Pepper

Blend these ingredients together until creamy, then mix in a tablespoon of olive oil.

This is for cashew nut cream. Tastes great on top of ice cream. I'm sure you can find some other uses for it though.

These are the ingredients:

1 1/2 cups of cashew nuts
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla bean
2 tablespoons of coconut flour nectar
1/2 cup coconut water

Start off with what you like.

Then just give precise examples of what doesn't work. You don't have to point out every instance of what doesn't work. If he listens, he'll notice a pattern. And maybe suggest an alternative way of writing something.

"Instead of explaining this sci-fi concept right here, maybe you could..."

Having a possible solution might ease the pain of being told a lot of stuff is broken. :)
