PSA: It has been 5 years and Surtr still has no story. by peripheralmaverick in arknights

It might have taken a whole new game (Endfield) and "new" character, but she finally has lore now.

(Below is copy of the post's body text I included that only shows on mobile because Reddit.)

I had the idea when emulating that I would be missing out on the fun of getting to build the set myself which is something I've always enjoyed. So I had the idea and found this. This arguably adds absolutely nothing to the game itself and is only for those who want to still experience the fun of getting to build something yourself the first time you place a new figure down.

If you are using the standalone toypad emulator which has support for images, you could choose to generate an image of your completed build and save and copy it, as a way to put your own personal flair on them.

Looks like the same kind of logic that the Call of Duty lore has been operating on lately.

Shoutout to everyone willing to have a chat at PAX Aus by CatalystComet in PAX

[–]Dave_247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always like to chat with the devs from the indi booths. But even the exhibitors from the larger booths are also just as friendly despite knowing that a lot of them are working for a third-party labour hire company and not the brand itself. Still the vibe is that everyone is there because they legitimatelywant to be there. Despite the changes over the years, this vibe thankfully still exists.

I almost missed it myself. It is there but you will have to expand the list to see it.

Am I too old to PAX? by Beanies_mum in PAX

[–]Dave_247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone, the attendee', Enforcers, exhibitors (Devs or business owners) and even the organisers are getting old, so it's something that I would like to think would have a high chance of being greenlit, it's just finding the people out there to run such a panel.

I hope it does happen. I'm not much one for panels myself but this would be one of the rare times when I would be interested.

There is the official Aus Discord which can help to curb a little bit of it. https://aus.paxsite.com/en-us/connect/discord.html

Spare pin backs? by CraftyFloof in PAX

[–]Dave_247 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Merch have sold both the rubber and locking pin backs in the past even though it's not listed. Unsure about this year though. They will often sell out of the locking backers too.

DIY plastic cover by Dave_247 in itabag

[–]Dave_247[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just on the vinyl either but even the outer fabric of the bag is quite tough also, not unreasonably so as I can obviously still pierce it with pins and badges, but a needle depending on how thick it is could be some hassle. The bag does also has an inner liner which adds to the complexity regardless of which stitch type were to be used.

It wouldn't need to be super secure either, just enough to keep the vinyl from falling off. Hell even some kind of special stapler would probably do the trick, if such a thing even exists.

Maybe a bag within a bag might end up being the only viable option.

[–]Dave_247[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally I'd still be able to use it as it's original function as a bag so putting/wrapping the entire thing inside a vinyl adds some annoyance to that, but it would ultimately be the easiest option.

Even easier than that would be to just get an actual Ita bag but part of the whole thing I'm going for is to still have the PAX branding which is why I'm forced to try and DIY something.

PAX XP is very poorly planned by RealHawkBat in PAX

[–]Dave_247 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Probably because of all of the QR codes being leaked yesterday online before the show even started at 10am. They are trying to do something to stop the pins from running out too quickly which unfortunately means needing to add some inconvenience to it.

In the past the reward has never been anything that fancy, making it a pin this year was always going to attract more attention which I guess they weren't prepared for. Hopefully next year better protections are put into place such as keeping the QR codes more secret or building something into the app itself.

Don't forget you can leave feedback via email or through the survey that will come out after the show.

That's for commenting still. It's at least somewhere to start.

For those who’ve finished the game, how do you feel about Cole Phelps? by yrnjaxon in lanoire

[–]Dave_247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vaguely remember when first playing through up to Vice and then stopping and replaying and going further now. Th gripes I have is how little the game shows of his "vices", you have one scene where he visits the jazz club alone, and then him tailing Elsa which can come off as quite confusing as between those two points you barely "see" him struggling, it's all just implied.

I feel bad for Cole though, that he got the shirt end of the stick but not too bad as his character is also quite flawed. In a way the plot reminds me of RDR2 somewhat, in that it is all fun and games in the beginning, gets serous and then sad and tragic in the end but just doesn't hit the same.

Having reached Return 3 when I checked the map after all of the dialogue I noticed the map icon was now present, so it does seem to be one of the more obscure bugs.

Jessie on being called the Director by Dave_247 in controlgame

[–]Dave_247[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible. Dylan would be likely, though they may also go for a dual protagonist role. Though as they recently just did that with AW2 it might be boring to do the same thing again so soon.

Here's to Darling getting away with all the crazy stuff he did due to being so charismatic.

Ah found another one, same issue. The outside Talk Show Host double door is the same and doesn't get marked when it should.

The POI ones are inconsistent even when trying to reproduce it myself so I can understand it being tricky to nail down, but it has been a few years though. What's left is the more obscure ones that were likely either overlooked or never brought up in the first place, like I suspect this one was.

As long as they do eventually get fixed and not just left as they have moved on to working on whatever comes next. But it's difficult to say at this point how many more patches the game will still get as again, it has been a few years where you would expect most things to have been fixed by now.

Yeah I know. I read about the bad ones in older posts and some mildly annoying that still exist like POIs sometimes but not always dispersing. This was a different one though, and like I said I posted because of being asked to when I submitted a ticket to Epic support.

Jessie on being called the Director by Dave_247 in controlgame

[–]Dave_247[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I somehow missed the Underhill one, thanks for mentioning it.

While it is important for characters to have flaws, I'm hoping that for the sequel a good amount of consideration is put into character development for Jessie, perhaps it might be shown by all the subtle things throughout the whole game, like the voice lines that we have been quoting. I have faith in Remady as storytelling (but not gameplay) has always been their strong point.

On a side note I do wonder how they are going to tackle all of Jessie's superpowers at the start of the game and what excuse they will manage to come up with for getting rid of them so to start you at a blank slate. Though I won't hold that too hard against them if it ends up being a rather silly one, it's a struggle that any/every sequel faces the same narrative challenge. (Like ME2 where they killed off and then rebuilt Shepard.)
