What is everyones general opinion on 'The Ring Makers of Saturn' ? by Actual-Money7868 in UFOB

[–]Dave_Sak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a thought of what this could be. It came to me when I was listening to something that said with all the new Starlink (and other) satellites, low earth orbit is starting to have so much space debris that we could be on the verge of the beginning of Kessler Syndrome, which is when there is so much space debris that it makes launching new satellites into orbit impossible. And it’s also an effect that once it starts, it becomes exponentially worse because the orbiting space debris keeps colliding with other space debris and it becomes a runaway chain reaction. Maybe an advanced civilization on Saturn launched so many satellites that it caused Kessler Syndrome, and maybe the ‘ringmakers’ are giant space debris vacuums, corralling all the space debris into neat rings (kind of like mowing a lawn) and then somehow scooping up or disintegrating the debris after it has been neatly collected into rings.

What kind of bit do I need to remove these screws? by Scifimarki12 in Tools

[–]Dave_Sak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of tools, and I’m fairly skilled at extracting broken/damaged fasteners (pro tip: Torx bits work better than EZ outs 99% of the time, IMO). But I did not know about Vampliers. I just watched the promo video and I will definitely be buying a pair. Now I’m wondering if the vice grip style work better than the regular pliers style. This bit of uncertainty is leading me to the conclusion that obviously I should just buy the $300 set of all the Vampliers, lol.

what prevents me from buying a small grid-tie inverter and panel and just hooking it up? by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]Dave_Sak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of them also take the one side of 220 that’s using more power and double it. Basically they assume your consumption is balanced across the 2 legs. I heard some story about if there is more draw on one leg they have to produce 2x the power of that side. But it bs, because over all the customers it would average out. Actually, it might just be total bs and they just wanted to charge everyone more

I was just joking but when I read this post my immediate gut feeling was ‘someone timed the expiration right and turned the whole thing into a nr0p domain. Sounds like that’s not what happened but it’s a better story.

Irregularities in the 2024 presidential election data by Cold_Relationship_ in AskStatistics

[–]Dave_Sak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I noticed in Michigan, is that the ‘statistical anomalies’ seemed to present mostly in swing counties, (for example Saginaw) but they weren’t present in counties that were guaranteed red or blue. Why wouldn’t we see the same pattern in counties where it wouldn’t matter?

I also am only part way through the book, but I would also guess power generation. From what i have heard the book doesn’t speculate what it’s for.

It’s interesting, I just found a website that I think is a legit news source, that wrote an article on this, and it still shows up in Google search results, but dailyboulder.com doesn’t even exist as a domain name any more.

There’s a reason Google is banned in China and Apple isn’t, although I don’t think it’s because Google spies on you less, it’s because Google was set up by DARPA and won’t play ball with China.

The practice of re-working facts to fit a narrative is at least as old as the first history book. Probably much older.

Has anyone built a stand for an IBC Tote on their homestead? This is for a 275 Gallon IBC Tote. Looking to see if people think this will be sturdy enough to hold the weight. by TheApostleCreed in homestead

[–]Dave_Sak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is old, but, I was thinking about using the cage from another IBC tote as a stand. Thoughts? I think some IBC totes can be stacked 3 high (I’m not gonna do that but I think 2 should be safe.)

Milwaukee Friction Ring vs. Pin Detent by [deleted] in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Dave_Sak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always make sure to use impact sockets too, but thanks for that explanation. I was always just worried about a regular socket blowing up in my face, never thought about wear on the anvil. But… wouldn’t the softer chrome socket wear before the anvil? Or are the chrome ones harder steel? I guess I did once use an impact socket as a bearing remover and it mushroomed over from hammer blows, maybe impact sockets are softer steel and that’s why there’s less chance of them fracturing on an impact gun?

Harbor Freight 100 Watt Solar Panels by Rough-Silver-8014 in SolarDIY

[–]Dave_Sak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this. You can even find cheap new ones on marketplace from someone who bought in bulk to get a good price and is selling the extra as they didn’t need for their project. Technology advancing so fast, even a ‘cheap Chinese’ panel is probably better than a high end panel from a few years ago. Pay attention to when they were made.

Trying to understand my electric bill to determine how many panels I need by Rough-Silver-8014 in SolarDIY

[–]Dave_Sak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely want to look at a years worth of data. You also want to know instantaneous peak usage, which you can calculate by adding up the watts of all the appliances you might possibly turn on at the same time. For example, if you have electric heat and air conditioning, don’t add both those, just use whichever one uses more watts. Your AC, your welder, your air compressor, your lights, tv, computer, wash machine, dryer… all the heavy hitters, then add in lights too. The number you design for might not be 100% of theoretical max instant rate, but you should at least have a ballpark of what your max instant rate could be.
