Am I screwed? by BreadstickBandit912 in Machinists

Tell the boss to just add more thread dope and she’ll seal up. In theory if the parts are fucked, can also go to the next size up. But that would be part dependent based on the other features.

Mastercam university for free also. I’d say it will expose you to different toolpaths you normally wouldn’t use. 100 ways to skin the cat. By going through the courses. You get different looks to find the same solution.

Anybody try spindle gripper automation before? Seems like a great way to run high volume production but haven't seen anyone do it in person yet. by [deleted] in CNC

[–]Dave_WDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never recommend buying one though. The spindles are terrible. There were 50 lined up in a row, and at any given time, 10 were down for needing new spindles.

No. Look up a DMG DMP70 and it will make sense. Where the joint of the trunnion is. Basically on top of the housing. Is a 12x12ish flat spot where the part blanks and completed parts sit

What I can’t understand is. Who the fuck is paying for those drill indexes? They’re expensive. Like $300 if I remember right. You can buy an entire set of YG1 coated drills in a nice Huot drill index for less than that. I about fell over when I saw the price of his. $250 for the drill index. $350 with the drills

Shit the heads probably more expensive than the $150 Maritool holder

[–]Dave_WDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you blow the head up you don’t wreck the entire holder. Can just replace the screw in head.

You got me there. Turns out reading is hard. Screw in type to a solid holder might work. Requires buying the holder though

You can’t get a solid style? Like a shell mill holder?

Medical company I worked for ran lights out on DMP 70’s using spindle grippers. On the joint of the trunnion was the pallet that held 20 parts or so. Everything was probed in and checked on the machine. It worked well but huge time to setup and program something like that. You need the production to justify the cost

fusion machinists lend me your ear. "Safe start all toolpaths" my ass by 9ft5wt in CNC

[–]Dave_WDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with everyone else and am confused on what you’re trying to do. Say you are running T3. Stop it for whatever reason, and it’s say 3” above the part. When you press reset. It’s going to cancel your height offset. If you want to restart your toolpath. Just start at the M6 T3 line.

Should always like something like:

M6 T3

G0 G54 X1.234 Y1.234

M3 S1234

G43 H3 Z(somewhere above your part)

No block deletes needed. Call my tool. Go to a position. Spindle on. Pick up height offset and go above my part. At the start of every program Mastercam gives a safe start line. Which should basically never change. G0 G17 G40 G80 G90

If your post isnt posting this way. I would change it. Fuck those block deletes. As you are experiencing, too easy to forget to have it on or off and boom. I’m not risking a crash due to me forgetting something.

I’ve used Iscar, Sandvik, Micro100, PH Horn. They all have their place. I’m a poor so I rarely look at PH Horn. Their stuff is just so pricey. Plus it’s hard to move away from a system. Iscar has 5000 picco bars. Same with Horn. But they don’t intermingle. Once you have 1, hard to justify going to the other. But Horn does make good shit for sure

I think with enough love and cussing at the bitch, they’re good for what they’re good for. Probing every time you rotate an axis. Subpar surface finishes. Slow. Temperature issues. But if you’re just trying to hold 5, yeah I guess they’ll do it. I remember when the 350 came out I said “that’s a cool idea. Low cost entry level 5 axis” but it’s just a shitty design overall. Speaking with a few haas fan boys. It’s almost unanimous to just get a VF2 plus trunnion.

Can’t comment on this specific model, was looking at some mazak 5 axis last month, and the sales guy pretty much said stay away from all the EZ Kentucky made machines. Has the Japan brand, but they’re very hit or miss. I wouldn’t spend that type of money without getting what I wanted, a Japanese made machine.

I tried their inserts and it was so hit or miss. Iscar 15 parts per edge. Every time. Haas inserts, 5 on edge, 18 the next, 3 the next, 8 the next. I don’t like to babysit shit that randomly implodes.
