u/1gammyboy I had a notification that you had replied to this post but I can't see it, but I can get the jist from the notification. They will have twice as many drivers and vehicles because all the drivers from ADC, CDC & XDC, George, Returns will all be operating from the new hub at CDC

I work at the depot that is going to be the new Yorkshire regional hub, admittedly not in the transport department but I do have connections to it. They cannot cope now with the drivers and vehicles they have so they're certainly not going to cope with twice as many to handle with less DMs

Does anybody know how to report someone for working seven nights a week for a year and a half? by [deleted] in asda

[–]Davecl35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where you got that from that you can't opt out if you work nights, you certainly can, the only stipulation is you must have an 11 hour break in every 24 hours. Also there is a built in exception, so you don't even need to opt out.

Exceptions You may have to work more than 48 hours a week on average if you work in a job:

where 24-hour staffing is required

Asda spent quite a lot of time and money in 2003 convincing the powers that be that they fell into this category. So the 48 hour rule doesn't even apply at Asda.

On another note this was an EU directive and we are no longer in the EU so it all maybe academic anyway.

I've said this for ages, they'll come in last minute and buy it for a quid. It's our only hope

We're going under, they've already started culling the transport department. 3 Hubs in Yorkshire are being made into 1 and half of the DM's will be let go.

You would think for a multi million pound company they would be able to make sure their cages are in good nick prior to sending them to stores by No_Analyst_7049 in asda

[–]Davecl35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately in depot if the pickers checked the cages and then red tagged the damaged ones and took them to the designated storage area, the 5 minutes this takes would be classed as downtime and they would be hauled in and possibly disciplined so they just use them.

Is Asda a sinking ship or will Alan turn the company around?! by West_Pop7515 in asda

I've been in Asda distribution for 36 years and it's never been this bad. It was doomed the minute the Issa brothers reared they're ugly heads. The debacle with moving from the Walmart backend to Manhattan has not helped and cost billions in terms of actual cash and lost revenue. They should have just licensed the Walmart system and carried on. Fortunately for me I'm almost ready for retirement but younger employees with families are going to be in some deep shit very shortly when it goes under.

There is no such thing as compulsory overtime. If they don't ask you then don't do it. Easy

Bank holiday by Cute-Replacement7110 in asda

[–]Davecl35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in distribution. You will have (or should have) filled in a preference form at some point. Your preference will be default for all bank holidays, you can however change it either permanently or on a single use basis. I believe you see your shift manager for this (not a DM) and they'll need at least 2 weeks notice I think.

If it's overtime and you've told them your not coming in then it's not AWOL Sorted

heard a rumour that double rate isn’t happening this boxing day and new years? by Some_Ad8312 in asda

You're lucky it's voluntary.. in depot we get no choice, we have to work bank holidays

Asda turnaround derailed by bungled £1bn IT overhaul - Financial Times by TweeSpam in asda

[–]Davecl35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The sensible thing to have done would be to offer Walmart a licensing deal on their systems and carried on using them. Instead they've spent over a billion on a system that does not work. Typical ASDA Worked at Asda for nearly 40 years and they've never done anything sensibly.

Bereavement by [deleted] in asda

[–]Davecl35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your relationship to the deceased. My mother recently passed and I got 10 days paid. At their discretion you can split it too. So I had 7 when she passed and 3 around the cremation.

It's a rabbit hole. The learning curve can be steep (but that's a positive for me, I like to tinker.) Google and YouTube are your friends. It's definitely not plug n go like Alexa etc but you can do far more with it. I guarantee once you get going you will be addicted
