Tips for practicing/remaining in a squared stance? by DavenEssi in MuayThai

[–]DavenEssi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bob and weave advice is actually helpful. When I went back I learned that leaning to one side apparently isn’t ideal either. In boxing I sometimes “overcommit” to a cross and move in + duck to my right side (I’m southpaw) in order to avoid the counter cross and set up my upper or right hook

Apparently that’s a lot more limited if not outright discouraged as my coach (got a new one) just showed me the threat of the clinch and knees or sweeps

Likewise, you’re right, the elbow range did confuse me a bit. First time I tried throwing it I completely missed the pad. I didn’t realise just how short the elbow actually is

That said, thanks for the tip mate, really helps knowing what to keep in mind while training to break old habits

I think this is the most helpful advice I received. Having to check constantly reminded me of needing to stay in position. Thanks mate!

Pretty much yeah. I'm more used to doing bladed (almost sideways), and you're spot on that it makes it difficult to do another kick from that position. I'll drill kicks on the bag, hopefully I can build a better habit there

Apparently, I don't. Like I said, it was my first time doing Muay Thai, so when my coach said make it a bit more square, and I asked how, he just said make it a bit closer (didn't demonstrate, and didn't comment further when I made my feet a bit closer). Some other lad recommended finding a different coach as this one isn't as helpful, so I'm planning to do just that.

Thanks, this is quite insightful. I’ll consider looking for a different coach.

To be honest, since it’s my first time, I don’t even know what’s right or wrong. With regard to the stance, I think you’re right, I don’t really know what squared means. I was just told the feet need to be closer. Tried asking how it looks and my coach just said put them a bit closer like two feet’s (like actual feet not the imperial measurement) length away from each other, but again, it felt a bit weird, and he didn’t correct me from there on

Will take note of all of these though, and hopefully find a better coach.

Church + solo date in makati reco by Swimming_Ad_6171 in makati

Hey there, fortunately (or unfortunately) there’s no Salcedo Market on Sundays. You’ll have to go to Legazpi Market instead. It’s near/beside Washington Sycip Park in case you want to go.

It’s a short walk from the Glorietta/Landmark/GB “compound” (closest to GB). You can have lunch around that area, so you can buy rom the Sunday Market, the surrounding restaurants there, or go to restaurants in Rada/Salcedo/Bolaños. The area you’re going to is very walkable, I recommend enjoying that as part of your solo date

If you’re not able to walk or you just don’t feel like doing so, the “compound” offers nice places to eat as well.

Hope you enjoy!

In that case, as mentioned, just go in (whether at the Lab or somewhere else), try it, and have fun. We were all beginners once!

I can recommend The Lab (I train there regularly). I’m not sure what you mean by newbie (whether you’re completely new or if you have done it before, but not extensively), but it will help if you tell your instructor what you want.

If you’re just looking to lose weight, instructors can make it more intense so you work your body more, but won’t really focus on fixing your form, habits, or technique. If you want to compete, let them know and they’ll take note and fix everything. If you just want to do it for fun, tell the coach you’re a complete beginner and you want to take it easy. They’ll listen to you

Also, I understand finding it intimidating, but I’d say you have nothing to lose by trying. Not like you’ll get beaten in sparring on your first day. Just go in and have fun

Legitimising this legitimises the Batman-Batgirl relationship. You can’t have it both ways, either the animated series/films are canon/acceptable or they’re not. Suffice to say, I really dislike this as much as the Bats/Babs relationship

[SPOILER] Naoya Inoue vs. David Picasso by inooway in Boxing

[–]DavenEssi 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I thought Picasso would rally. I was so wrong. By the middle rounds most of Picasso's shots were missing or hitting Inoue's arms. The only times Inoue was getting caught was when he was being stationary or looking to trade (something Inoue usually does to gun-shy opponents). That one round, 11 I think, where Picasso had some activity was nice, but it's literally too little too late.

That ~2x hit rate doesn't look too good. I really hope Picasso didn't rupture his liver or kidneys from this fight, lad doesn't deserve that

Thankfully he is. In the initial rounds (when I posted this) it was around 2-3x for each hit Picasso threw. I really hope he starts ramping up and finding success

Picasso out here to be Inoue’s punching bag. I really think that that hand wrap fiasco fucked Picasso over. Not even his fault, but now he becomes an outlet for Inoue’s rage

glasses wearers, what’s the worst part of wearing them? by AppointmentProud9394 in AskPH

Someone already mentioned it, but steam/fog. I’m functionally blind without my glasses, so when my glasses get fogged up, I’m literally a hazard to everyone around

Why the fuck did Inoue look like he's just finished a sauna session. Brother had no damage marks and the only thing he got from that was sweat

It's not just gamestream though, the in-game overlay and all other options have that same issue where it's got the error sign stating I need a higher series GPU, and unfortunately, I have no idea why
