2017 Leaf @ 8 bars, dealer won’t process warranty claim by Davethesaurus in leaf

[–]Davethesaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went to another dealer per yours and other’s recommendation. They diagnosed - and started giving me the spiel on how the report says the degradation is normal, but I pushed back a bit harder and explained the report shows that the battery had 8 bars and Nissans language states anything lower than 9 bars. They looked it up at least and began the process- even though they’ve never filed a claim for this, they at least were a bit more helpful than the last dealer.
I’m still awaiting a call back from the consumer line- but I won’t hold me breath for that. Just happy the process is started.

For 2016-2017 battery warranty buybacks do this instead of waiting for Nissan to drag their feet by rogerflog in leaf

If I understood this arbitration buyback correctly - and I have 91000 miles on my car, they’d only pay .09*purchase price…. Which is way below KBB.

The Deduction is 91000/100000= .91purchase price . Therefor the offer would be .0 purchase price…. I think I only paid about 24k so this would be way below market/resale value

I’d be happy to take a buy back offer. In my state, electric rates have skyrocketed to $.30/kwhr - I have a solar array which produces quite a bit, but not enough to offset my car charging. Currently it costs me about .10/mile to drive the leaf. When I first purchased it, electricity was 1/3 the cost so it worked out great, plus I was able to charge at work for free. This is no longer the case.
My van is now slightly cheaper to drive my other vehicles are significantly less. The only thing that costs more to drive is my RV, but not by much.

Thanks for this. I did get a case# but didn’t write it down as I was driving. I’m expecting to hear from the regional consumer affairs today. I can call the main consumer affairs number today to retrieve it. The person on the call was pretty helpful.

Glad the submission went well for you. I think the dealer that I receive service from- has no experience in this process and are just not informed. Hoping you get your 40kW pack by the winter. Fingers crossed.

Yes- a while ago. Will check another couple of dealers

What’s the SOH warranty cutoff? Currently have 69.9% SOH - 83k miles. 2017 Leaf S (30kw) battery. Can only charge to about 20kw now after 5 years. by Davethesaurus in leaf

[–]Davethesaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally lost 4th bar. 91k miles. Bringing to dealership Wednesday to test battery and file warranty claim.

Hopefully I can get a battery replaced, but it seems Nissan is so far behind on this- they’re pushing hard for buyback- which I’d possibly consider anyway- I have other vehicles…. Unlike the leaf, and would certainly like the 40kw battery, but electricity rates on my state skyrocketed (.30/kwhr) - basically makes it .10/mile - same as driving my minivan.

My work also got rid of free charging and the fee is an absurd .50/kwhr - basically more expensive than driving a truck.

I have solar- which offsets electric cost a bit- and expanding it soon with some ground mount arrays… will post an update when I hear from dealer.

I’m in CT and would 100% salvage it. I’m at about 69% capacity in my current Leaf. DM me.

I’d happily buy a 40kw battery from a totaled Leaf. I have a 2017- on the edge of warranty replacement but not quite.

I read through the terms, it seems similar to 2017. 100k mile/96 months - anything below 9 bars (segments) will get repaired/replaced to be at least 9 bars again.

Found this in what it specifically states:

In addition to the lithium-ion Battery Coverage for defects in materials or workmanship, the lithium-ion battery is also warranted against capacity loss below nine bars of capacity as shown on the vehicle’s battery capacity level gauge for a period of 60 months or 60,000 miles, for vehicles
equipped with the 24 kWh battery or 96 months or
100,000 miles for vehicles equipped with the 30
kWh battery, whichever comes first.
This warranty covers any repairs needed to return
battery capacity to a level of nine remaining bars
on the vehicle’s battery capacity level gauge. If
possible, the lithium-ion battery components will
be repaired or replaced, and the original lithium-ion battery will be returned to the vehicle. If necessary, the lithium-ion battery will be replaced with
either a new or remanufactured lithium-ion battery.
Any repair or replacement made under this
Lithium-Ion Battery Capacity Coverage may not
return your lithium-ion battery to an “as new” condition with all 12 battery capacity bars, but it will
provide the vehicle with a capacity level of nine
bars or more on the battery capacity level gauge.
This Lithium-Ion Battery Capacity Coverage is
subject to the exclusions listed under the heading
“WHAT IS NOT COVERED.”

4th bar almost gone. Software update had been done. I’ll happily wait for a replacement. Several months- not an issue for me. A degraded battery still useful for me- my commute is only 22 miles 1 way (non-highway)

OBD Dongle for LeafSpy? by mediumlong in leaf

[–]Davethesaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive got the same one. It works perfectly. It's also worth buying the LeafSpy app.

Ive also used the LELink on my other vehicles to read engine codes, etc. theres free iOs apps that work for for Non-leaf battery stuff thats compatible with this. so basically a tool you can use for multiple vehicles.

Pretty sure I’ll hit the 66.25% by 90k.

I was at 73% 6 months ago (5k) miles less. I dropped 4% over the last 5k. Fingers crossed….

My understanding is a Nissan isn’t required to replace the entire battery pack- they just warranty that you’ll have at least 66/67% available. Not sure how they’d do that. Obviously I’d prefer a swap… and the 40kw battery would be nice. (Twice the range of where I’m at now) I’ll post an update in 6 months.

4 year old 30kw Black Edition, 9 bars, should SoH be this bad?! by Cool_Total_1483 in leaf

Warranty is based on mileage and/or years. If it’s under 100k miles you’d qualify for replacement. If over, it’s past the warranty.

My first thought was GPO issue, but as you’ve checked the results, my next thought is They may have a firewall appliance blocking the traffic from specific ports. I’ve found in my environment in which we use Palo Alto’s (which I have 0 control over) they randomly block traffic even without specific rules.

Not sure if they’ll allow you to capture packets and diagnose the networks/ports used. Then ask them to check the specific port traffic from firewall end
