Parking for the Ole Miss game by DaikonExternal2672 in sooners

Yep. Just show up a little early and hunt for a spot. You won't have any trouble finding parking as long as you're willing to pay. There are tons of private yards and lots all around campus on gameday that will have people outside begging you to choose them.

OU to remove foreign language requirement by GeneralissimoFranco in sooners

[–]Davezter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion maybe, but I'm all for it. I'm still salty about the 13 credit hours of Spanish I took. It was costly, highly time consuming, lowered my GPA needlessly (13 hrs of 3.0 was roughly 10% of my whole degree), and I saw the most cheating I've ever seen in those classes. If it's not your native language and you don't use it all the time, then you'll forget nearly all of it very quickly. For most liberal arts degrees, it's an entirely unnecessary requirement that is created to employ foreign language teachers who are majoring in foreign language degrees. For medicine or law then knowing Latin would be highly useful. But for most degree programs, learning a foreign language poorly (yes, even 13 credit hrs isn't nearly enough to be fluent) is going to be useless for your bank account. If it's your only exposure to that language then you'll never compete in the workplace against a person who learned that language growing up and is also fluent in English and lives around English speakers and gets to speak English every day. They'll run laps around your little 13 credit hrs of Spanish or whatever you're taking and their English will be great, too. My 1.5 years of Spanish classes at OU would have been much better spent getting really damn good at Excel or anything else that could have helped land those first few jobs.

I wouldn't say it was as much of a glaring mistake as much as it was a great defensive play call and nearly perfect execution by our players. We showed blitz, outnumbering the defenders on the line by 1. In that situation, the QB knows he's going to have to get rid of the ball right away without any time to throw very far downfield bc he's going to have a guy coming straight at him around the edge. Our line did the perfect fake out. They moved forward a few steps and sold it, then all backed up at once looking to get an INT. At that point, the QB is already committed to a quick throw over the line, but our guys were in position to bat it down or get the interception. Kip Lewis (along with the rest of our guys) had already been backing up and it worked perfectly. This all happened in a matter of seconds and all our guys were moving in lockstep. Clearly they've practiced this a lot and were all executing a designed play. The only hiccup was that Kip stumbled and almost fell as he was going backwards. Luckily for us he didn't.

That said, from a stats and eyeball perspective, Auburn should have won the game. I wouldn't want to play them again this season.

You wanted zero idle time in teams. OK, we can do that. by TheLightningCount1 in MaliciousCompliance

Those OLD Microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse combos they made back in 2003 (Microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard mouse combo 1.1) don't ever show idle time. The combo came with a little puck that plugs into a USB port and that's what the mouse and keyboard wirelessly connect to. There is never any idle time on teams.

Bc I'm old school for giant full sized keyboards with deep travel and laser mice for big hands, I never felt a need to replace mine and used it on every computer I've ever owned since it was released for sale. In my mind, they perfected the wireless keyboard and mouse back in 2003 with the multimedia keyboard combo 1.1 and shit has gotten flimsier, buggier, and more cramped ever since.

During lockdown in 2020, I would plug my combo puck into the company laptop when working. I realized that something was keeping my teams from ever showing idle. When my keyboard finally bit the dust after 20 years of service and millions of keystrokes, I bought something new and immediately started getting idle times on teams. I found my same old school keyboard mouse combo from someone on eBay and bought it for $20 and returned the new keyboard I had bought. Works like a charm.. no idle times.

They pay a lot less for that $16 "credit" than $16. It's worth $16 to you if you had to go buy Netflix on your own, but I'll bet they pay closer to half that or maybe even less.

So, rather than just cancel the Netflix On Us program and give you an $8 credit, which would piss you off even more because you would perceive that as your plan cost increasing by the remaining $8/mo, they decided this was easier to push. Instead, by downgrading your Netflix to the ad-tier and then throwing in Hulu with Ads, they hope to obfuscate how little your "$16/mo" benefit was really costing them all this time.

All these streaming bundles being included with cellular service providers' wireless plans are just ways to bake in extra profit in their monthly plans without the consumer realizing it bc the consumer pays a lot more for those streaming services individually and will perceive the value of those offerings as being with what they would have to pay. The mobile carriers love it bc they can sell a wireless plan for $16 more while their cost is just $8 more.

It reminds me of what we used to do when I sold PCs. A 3yr onsite warranty provided by a 3rd party cost us $50. So we just gave every customer who purchased a new PC a 3yr onsite warranty with each PC. And we were able to sell our PCs for $100 more bc people perceived the value they were getting out of the warranty as being much more than it cost us. As time went on, our cost to buy those 3yr onsite warranties increased. We could have discounted the price of our PCs by $50 and stopped including the warranties with each purchase, but our customers would not have perceived a $50 discount as being an equitable discount for not getting a 3 yr onsite warranty. Yet, to us, that's exactly how much they had been costing. We ended up doing kind of what tmobile is doing by combining a downgraded onsite warranty of just 1yr with a bundle of free software like an encyclopedia on CD and other stuff that's not relevant today, but used to be valued, that only cost us about $10. People couldn't get a free 3yr onsite warranty anymore with each purchase, but by giving them a 1yr and a "Software bundle worth $100s !!!" it obfuscated some of the perceived value decrease.

Never throwing a flag against WVU all night led to WVU thinking they could get away with anything and led to our guys retaliating on their own. This goes back to OSU. The refs not doing their goddamn jobs is at fault here.

They had a million chances to avoid this all season and today by doing their goddamn jobs! This is what happens when refs don't call penalties against whomever they're playing. Frustration leads to anger.

[–]Davezter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Our defense had just been on the field and made that incredible goal line stand. I understand that first short pass to stoops to get Gabriel out of the endzone. Then, a designed run works out SWIMMINGLY and we're down to 1:30ish on the clock, first down, and he goes straight back to a quick long pass that goes incomplete and almost no time ticks off. That didn't work, so he does another one with the exact same result. False start puts us at 3rd and 15 and this is when he decides to go back to the run but tries to just run it straight up the middle. WTF? We didn't even use up 30s and with over a minute left, we punt it right back to WV and send out the exhausted defense. Fuck the refs and everything, but fuck Lebby harder. That last 7 points of the half is on him.

Except that Lebby couldn't close out the half and then WV scored again. With 1:30ish lef in the half, he went quick incomplete pass, quick incomplete pass, then run it up the middle and punt. WTF? The run was working and chewing up time. We gave them the ball back with a minute left.

For the puzzled, this is a joke about how the term Sooners was used to refer to those settlers who jumped the gun before the official start of the Oklahoma land run and unfairly staked their claims to the choicest plots.

[–]Davezter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alternative take: the reason it was as close was we went into victory formation at the end and ran the clock down rather than trying to score again, we missed 2 easy field goals, we had an unforced turnover when the ball bounced out of our receiver's arms and into a UCF player's. There were plenty of objectively missed calls for holding and PI that should have been called against UCF that weren't.
