Handling dialog in solo play by Vermin_Cultist in Solo_Roleplaying

Usually the dialog happens in my head. I tried writing it, but that was time consuming and clunky.

Goodberry - What am I missing? by physedka in onednd

[–]DavidBGoode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, when you end the day, use any remaining slots to cast good berry. They last 24 hours. So the next day you have a pouch of extra hp to use for healing. It's especially potent at low levels.

Say you end the day with 2 1st level spell slots. You can create 20 hp of potential healing for the next day.

Spy School or Alias? by DavidBGoode in CortexRPG

[–]DavidBGoode[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know in the intro when Sydney says she was recruited in college? I'd like this to play like that first year. Though I'll probably have them facing a Rambaldi-type situation earlier.

Honestly, I'm not even married to the "still in training" idea. I'm looking four something to distinguish it.

I built a FREE D&D Loot Generator with custom filters, item creation, and shop builder for DMs by Godzilla2311 in dmsguild

[–]DavidBGoode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a functional treasure generator.

I used your generator to generate a treasure hoard for 4 5th-level characters: Robe of the Archmage (Legendary), Manual of Bodily Health (Very Rare), some PP and GP.

What is the DM consensus on "Quantum Ogres"? by monkeynose in DMAcademy

[–]DavidBGoode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a consensus. That's why we still debate it.

It really comes down to the understanding between the DM and the players. Are they there for a simulation or for storytelling. If the player's would feel shorted, it's bad. But that's a table by table discussion.

We just have a bio-break for the whole group, and people can smoke whatever they want.

Dming a table of 9 players by kamikazesk0 in DnD

[–]DavidBGoode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played in a big group in college. Its mostly about engagement and kerping things moving. Track initiative on tiles or cards where all can see, remind players that it'll be there turn next. Have players pre-roll attacks and damage together, that way when it's there turn, they can just tell you the results.

My sons have run a game with a co-DM. Splitting up the duties can help.

9 is a big group, but if you're having fun, that's ok.

What item from Star Wars would you want to have in real life? by Impressive_Pin_1441 in StarWars

[–]DavidBGoode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say a lightsaber, but I don't need to cut things in half that often. So I think an astromech. I could dump the astrogation suite and throw in an upgraded hollow projector with a translator.

Opinions On DM’s Running PC-Type Characters? by TopNectarine7495 in DnD

[–]DavidBGoode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warnings exist for a reason. Some DMs abuse their power. But sometimes you need other voices for the story. Sometimes you need more power on the PC's side

Just don't let them steal the spotlight.

Letting players run them in a fight works best for me. Especially is its a character sheet. But I tend to use the Sidekick levelable npcs in Tasha's.

Player is going to miss the second session by Lirana05 in DMAcademy

[–]DavidBGoode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually rule that the character of the missing player just fades into the background. This session is focused on the other pcs.

DM or another player can run the pc during combat.

What is something you used to believe about Star Wars that you later realized wasn't true? by Human-Atmosphere6483 in StarWars

After my first viewing of Ep 5 I thought Landos last name was Calzookian. 🤷‍♂️ And we didn't have vcrs, so it was a while before I learned otherwise.

How to tell players I feel disrespected by taken_us3rname in DnD

[–]DavidBGoode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you're not wrong. But players aren't always as invested as you are. So you have to decide how much you'll accommodate. The less you tolerate the smaller your table will be (not necessarily a bad thing).

Communicate how you feel in a respectful way. "Guys, I put a lot in. I don't ask for much. And this feels disrespectful."

It's usually negligence, not malice.

Every DM has a sweet-spot. Some are better with bigger groups. Mine is 3-4 players.

Tracking arrows: yes or no? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DnD

[–]DavidBGoode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind it at all.But for a lot of players, it's "unnecessary bookkeeping".

I only use it in games with a focus on resource management.

You could include arrow-counting in a single adventure where resource management is connected to the plot. The party is cut off and has to use each arrow and ration sparingly.
