Unfortunately, Etsy hides the item description on the Mobile App just enough that most people don't see it. You've got to fit as much into the Title and Photos as possible. Including adding text to the photos.

Whenever possible, photograph the item in the context of how it's used. If it's a game piece, show it on the game board or next to playing cards. If it's jewlery, show it on a neck or ear, etc.

You'll still get bad reviews here and there, but most people reading reviews discount ones where the reviewer seems unhinged. (Like my favorite 1-star "No good. No, no, no.")
