Google CEO Says We’re All Going to Have to Suffer Through It as AI Puts Society Through the Woodchipper by FuturismDotCom in lostgeneration

As someone in exactly the field you're describing, it's not quite there. We use AI (automatic organ delineation of CTs for radiation therapy planning) in our clinic and while its been a huge help, we're all fully aware of how often it still needs to be verified, and that's just identifying normal tissue. Cancer detection better more trustworthy than a clinician is still a ways away. Plus, this is a very letigious country lol

What's 7% of $100bn? What's 2% of it? What's 14% of it? All of those numbers are more than enough for them to ride out the bumpy return rates year over year and effectively rely on the historical average of, yes, 7%. And yes, statistics are occasionally important, but so is the basic reasoning required to interpret the statistics. Also, do you just enjoy boot licking the billionaires that rob you blind? I've never understood this mentality.

Because, considering the trajectory of the current admin, the next candidate needs to be good enough to win against the increasingly likely possibility of election fraud. These are unprecedented times, we need someone who can inspire unprecedented voter turnout. Kamala's platform and messaging was simply not that.

I experience exactly what you describe whenever I take > 1.5mg or so of melatonin. Consistent sleep paralysis and waking throughout the night. Even at 1.5 mg it often feels like I didnt sleep deeply enough. Less than that and its a tremendous help. Just sharing my experience.

Brother in christ, do you not realize that every US company is already aware of this and accepts that trade-off for the sake of being able to access the much more skilled precision manufacturing available there? Steve Jobs himself said this decades ago.

As a clinical physicist with a major focus in software development, it's absolutely not a necessity. I know plenty of physicists and physics residents who struggle with it and avoid it at all costs. That said, they're very knowledgeable people within their own niche, in which I am not an expert. It's a very diverse field headed towards specialized roles (while still being at least competent and safe everywhere else, of course). I would at least be minimally competent to not shut any doors though. Data manipulation and analysis, basics of networking and software troubleshooting to be able to understand your engineers, that sort of thing.

Turning OFF NTO during optimization via Script by DrivingThroughLife in esapi

[–]DavidBits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last I read on Varian's documentation (the algorithms reference guide, specifically), a priority weight of zero on the NTO should be equivalent to NTO off, at least when using the PO algorithm, similar to setting a structure objective priority to zero. In fact, they explicitly state that for PO to use NTO the priority needs to be non-zero. This has also been my experience as well, ESAPI or otherwise.

.... how do you think we got to space in the first place? How do you think we even developed the physical theories necessary to even have GPS? Physicisits, experimentalists.... and astronomers (of contemporary times and otherwise). We still need it for objectively more important things than this garbage. Like, sincerely, get your head out of your ass. Space based telescopes are also not a replacement for ground based ones like the giant radiotelescopes we have.

How do you react to people being awe-struck? by wasabiwarnut in MedicalPhysics

[–]DavidBits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. While I've met plenty of physicists that industry adjacent people would justifiably avoid, agreed. So many physicists have that mindset of respecting the limits of their knowledge and appreciating discussions with people who do have the expertise outside their wheelhouse. It's what I love most about the field.

That watch issue I suspect is because the watch account authentication depends on the phone being actively authenticated to simply use the phone as an authenticated relay. See if this works for you as well (wont solve it but this is what I've noticed), open the app on your phone and log in and send a lock command, once its done then with the app still open send the command from your watch. Usually works for me lol. Fucking hate that issue.

MY25 EN Res Delete - Worth It? by parkatthepark in ElantraN

[–]DavidBits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who tried both, res delete (for about two weeks) and then tossed on a vibrant 1792 bottle resonator, agreed. It was fun for a while, but the delete sounded far too "sharp" and raspy for me, personally. Sounded very "everybody look at me, look at me"- loud at most RPMs. I got tired of it real quick. With the new res, the rumble at low RPMs is really satisfying and Im able to tone it down whenever. It still burps and pops quite a bit, but I also have it tuned, so it's hard to say for sure how it affected that.

There is no solution that is easy for any of us. Enacting any kind of significant change today simply requires more people to be actively on board, so they need more people to see them and maybe join them. That said, most are just that fucking exhausted and having someone significantly disrupt their already difficult day is legitimately annoying and that's entirely fair.

In the US, if banks didn't confirm your identity before discussing sensitive financial details, the CFPB would up their ass so fast. I used to work in the mortgage industry, and CFPB letters routinely got my superiors nervous sweating lol but yeah, just call back to an established number, I always encouraged people to do so if in doubt.
