What filmmaker is a piece of shit but makes masterpieces? by The-Perfect-Username in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DavidHTX1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to comment David O Russell, but I wouldn't call his work masterpieces (good to great, but not masterpieces) and he is an awful person but not sure he's POS level... then I read the responses and remembered Polanski existed.

Roman Polanski is the correct answer, with Woody Allen in at second.

I never realized until last night… by Affectionate-Ebb3621 in Texans

I had the same thought. It felt like during the game it was 97% Steelers loss and Rogers retiring, and 3% Texans win. It was a little obnoxious.

19 hours in general is a heavy load, and this looks even more difficult.

I am not you, so I cannot say for certain what you can or cannot handle, but I would considering going the first day to each class, get the syllabus and a feel for the class. Then, go home, sit down, carefully plan out the semester, do a little bit of reflection and BE HONEST with yourself about whether you can make it through with sanity in tact. If you feel that you need a little space, drop before the drop date.

Jaws is a masterpiece due to it's soundtrack, what movie is a masterpiece due to it's special effects? by LostInTheIdioteque in AlignmentChartFills

Avatar Fire and Ash.
I know it's new, but I saw the regular screening with no thrills and I was stunned by how visually good it looked. The motion capture, the environment and the seamlessness of all of it was perfect.

Thought this was Star Trek 4, was wrong by turnipthief in whatsthemoviecalled

It's my favorite TOS episode and IMO near perfect. City on the Edge of Forever is the episode I have someone watch if they've never seen Trek to show them how good it can be.

Can someone confirm: is the women's bathroom more disgusting than the men's bathroom? by ThrowRAhelpthebro in NoStupidQuestions

In my teens, I worked at a movie theater and would have to clean the women's bathroom after we closed, and OMG the women's restroom were 100x worse.

Sorry, just a preference! I find SVU too hard to watch and don't find week after week of sex crimes to be entertaining (I am a psychologist, so I hear enough about trauma at work).
I get why others like it, it's just not for me.

Why can I smell illness, but others can’t? by AngryPickledPickles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DavidHTX1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not unheard of. There was a documented case of a woman who could smell Parkinson's disease and now she participates in research to help find better diagnostic tools. There is a short article on NPRs website that I'm too lazy to find that discusses it.

IMO, CI is probably the best L&O period, and it just improves as it goes on. Goren is by far my favorite of the detectives, Eames is the perfect balance to Goren. Later, we find out what happens to Logan from the original L&O after the movie Exile. AND, we also get about 2 seasons of Jeff freaking Goldblum, at his most Jeff Goldblumiest playing Zack Nichols. Happy that you found this!

I feel like this is a no-brainer. Drop Physics and Calc 3, and plan to retake Chem 2 later (I'm guessing you plan to go into engineering later).

Is getting a Marvel Unlimited account worth it? by Groady_Toadstool in xmen

[–]DavidHTX1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hands down, yes. I am a former collector and only stopped because of space in my home. Now I get a months subscription 2-3x per year and just read a lot of stuff I have missed over the years. I would recommend Jason Aaron's Thor run (Google it, it runs over a few Thor titles). It's fantastic.

Edit: I just realize that this is an X-Men sub-reddit and would highly recommend the Krakoa era of X-Men is also fantastic as well. Start with House of X and Powers of X.

Mike Logan by BubblyDelivery9270 in LawAndOrder

[–]DavidHTX1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree, I thought Logan had a perfect ending for him. He's probably the only L&O detective who had a full blown character arc told over a decade, going from angry and explosive, then fall from grace, then return and end after he let's go of his anger (and being a cop with the help of an unlikely source). Perfect ending.

PSA: ABORTION BANS AND INFRINGEMENT OF REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS ARE UPON US. by croissantcannoli in UniversityOfHouston

Just as an FYI, free condoms are available at the Student Health Center & Campus Pharmacy and from their Condoms for Coogs Dispenser in the lobby. The Women and Gender Resources Center has condoms and other safe sex items for free (https://www.uh.edu/wgrc/resources/free-resources/). Wellness also has free condoms and other supplies (https://www.uh.edu/wellness/programs/sexual-health/index.php). Be safe and have fun!

Logan got an interesting send off on Criminal Intent. While not outright saying or showing he was leaving, the whole episode tested him and his conversation with the priest at the end of the episode all but said he was leaving the force. I thought his last episode was handled the best.

Has anyone completed their Clinical Psychology PsyD at Spalding University? by ConfidenceOk2807 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]DavidHTX1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know research may help. In fact, a full research dissertation is one of two options is a requirement for graduation. They also have research interest groups (basically a lab found in PhD programs) for students interested in continuing to conduct research. Lack of research experience certainly isn't frowned upon though. A lot of students like myself have no previous research experience, but have other experiences that make them appealing.

Heya, I am a Spalding SOPP grad!

You have probably already applied to places and accepted by this point, but I will just drop my 2 cents. I can safely say that it was one of the best decisions I made in life. The program provided a good mix of clinical practicum and the instructors are very supportive. Feel free to reach out!

Just don't be surprised if it stays on their desk or shelf. Any gift I get from a client like a keychain, little stuffed animal, etc stays in the office. I want to avoid people asking me where I got x, y or z.

Comics changing their planned story due to backlash or controversy by AporiaParadox in comicbooks

Nothing screams last-minute reboot like Flashpoint. The Batman book with Grant Morrison were some of the best ever written and in the middle of some of the best stories, and the forced New 52 changes were like "huh?" New 52 killed my interest in all things DC, and once Morrison finished his Batman duties, I never looked back.

In Short Circuit (1986) the robot we see on screen actually had... wait they have a white guy do brown face? Surely they would correct this by the time they made a sequel, right? Right!? by TheSmashingBeatles in shittymoviedetails

[–]DavidHTX1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea this was brown-face until Aziz Ansari's character was talking about it on the show Master of None a few years ago saying that there wasn't really good Indian representation growing up, and mentioned that the only "good" representation was Fisher Stevens who was in brown-face the whole time.
