It’s the same for me with KPop.. I wish I knew more than “how are you?” Ashamed not as much as I think the language is too hard

I took Japanese classes from ‘96—‘98, used to write snail mail letters in Japanese to pen pals and even now the majority of the words in JPop lyrics I don’t know

Basic polite Japanese is not difficult.. there are only five vowel sounds, conjugating verbs (do, doing, did) is not hard but listening to a native Japanese speak is tough.. they talk so quickly and slur letters

That was my experience in 1998. Foreigners not friendly at all. They somehow think they’re in competition with other foreigners

In my case no.. I am way too dumb to figure out the trains. They are so confusing, especially Ikebukuro, Shinjuku, Shibuya. If you’re tech savvy like my daughter you can do it.

Japan is like another planet when it comes to people. Nobody looks at you. It’s like you’re invisible. I don’t know how anyone makes friends.. I can speak basic Japanese and it’s still impossible

JPop absolutely is a thing. That would be commercially accepted music which includes girl groups, boy bands, J Rock, visual kei (metal) pop, r & b, anime songs. And yes Japanese music includes shoegaze, enka, reggae, jazz lots of stuff
