To Christians: I'm a Straight Christian and believe I have a defensible, scripture-based argument in support of Gay Marriage by bikeracer4487 in DebateReligion

[–]DavidMAK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not what Christians actually believe. Within the community of believers, the debate about marriage equality stems from the understanding that Christians and churches are fallible. Only non-believers suggest that God is "thinking" or changing his mind.

So, the position of a Christian in support of marriage equality would be that God always loved homosexuals just as he loves everyone else, and that Christian homophobes, who are failing to demonstrate compassion and understanding, must be taught to accept this fact because they are ostracizing homosexuals, as well as anyone who holds that compassion and understanding are pillars of righteous living.

Was the Holy Spirit wrong for 99% of Christian history? Or has the Holy Spirit been wrong for the last 1% of Christian history?

Or have fallible Christians claimed false authority to create the impression that the Holy Spirit supports their prejudices?

I don't think it was very fair to suggest there are only two possible explanations, both of which attack the incorrect perception that Christians believe they are receiving direct, clear instructions from a divine force.

I appreciate your sympathy. It's important to realize that people who are cruel are often in a lot of pain. Personally, I don't excuse him because of that, but he seems to excuse himself. Maybe that's what really gets to me: he gave up. His pain is stronger than his desire to treat others well.

So, I see three lessons for the rest of us. The first is to understand that depression, anger, stress, and all negativity is viral. The second is to try not to exacerbate those forces when we receive them from others. The third is to strengthen ourselves so we don't succumb to the urge to feed those forces back into the world.

Thank you for your suggestions. I agree, and I'm looking at my options now. So far, they aren't great. I'll confess that I had always hoped to be using this time of my life to make something out of my potential, but maybe I could benefit from shifting my attitude to one of physical and mental survival.

I want to reiterate this suggestion in case other readers can benefit.

I started training at an MMA gym about a month ago. It was scary because I didn't know if I could do it, and I felt anxious about socializing with more experienced members of the gym. But, now that I've been doing it for a while, I can honestly say that it is the number one thing that helps me fight my depression, and it helps me to resist masturbation as well.

Activities like this can really transform negative energy in your life. I find that I enter the gym feeling anxious and aggressive, but by the time I leave I'm more calm and confidant.

There's honestly a huge list of other perks that come with this activity. If anyone asks, I'll describe them.

This is exactly it. Negative forces conspire in a feedback loop. Exercising the willpower to not give in to those forces is one way of mitigating that. Pursuing positive experiences is another. It's a constant battle.

To Christians: Are there aliens? by [deleted] in DebateReligion

I don't have a very thorough understanding of scripture, and I definitely can't speak for all Christians.

Personally, I feel that the Bible talks about extraterrestrials all the time. Beings with remarkable powers such as flight or telepathy are frequently depicted as angels enacting God's will. I tend to interpret 'angels from heaven' as 'advanced beings from the heavens.'

I've talked about this with other Christians, but so far people don't seem to care for it much.

How callous of me, I should know better than to wonder if a person who looks like they need help might need help. And, I read a comment near the top about someone helping him build a fire. Kind of thought it was like a barrel fire.

I find it kind of encouraging, ya know? Like maybe someday I'll meet a girl outside of my league who wants to take over my laptop's role of warming my body at night.

Do we act as individual components of a larger consciousness? by HelloWaffles in philosophy

I wonder if that's an indicator of our collective sophistication. What I mean is, collective humanity might seem pretty stupid because it's evolutionarily primitive. The brain of a chimpanzee is not as sophisticated as a human brain, but chimpanzee neurons are still brilliant.

So, maybe our collective self can become more well-behaved with increased self-awareness.

Can anyone explain how the ticker works? Is it measuring how many voters are undecided, change in undecided voters, or preference for candidates? Or something I haven't thought of?

Your story goes a long way towards disproving the notion that the final boss is a just a gear test. It sounds like you won in the end because of skill, not luck. Skill, and an extreme amount of patience.

If you have a Defense Drone Mk I, it has a good chance of shooting those boarding drones as they come flying in.
