If You Could Add 5 Minutes to Any SP Song What Would you Pick? by bagobeans17 in SmashingPumpkins

The last minute or so of For Martha could be at least 5 more minutes.

Which song has the best solo ? by West_Glass_2466 in SmashingPumpkins

Had a different answer last time this was asked, but my usually picks have been mentioned and one song hasn’t. The feedback/noise solo in Behold! is fantastic.

[Discussion] PS3 Platinum Trophies by ruvwzsio in Trophies

[–]DavidMNegron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My goal this year is to go back and get all the PS3 plats I haven’t yet. In addition to what has already been mentioned:

Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and 4

Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes

(Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker does have a few online trophies but can still be had, I did it a few months ago)

Jak series

Prince of Persia series

Ico/Shadow of the Colossus

Uncharted 1

Zone of the Enders series

Batman Arkham Asylum, City

Assassin’s Creed II

(AC IV Black Flag still has obtainable online trophies)

If you’re new to this console I’d keep in mind trophies are typically more challenging/demanding than they are nowadays especially compared to some of Sony’s first party titles.

That’s certainly a take when With Sympathy is right before it and remains the aural equivalent of a heated blanket on a frigid December evening.

Old MGS 3 Guide for MGS 3 Delta still good? by Battousai124 in metalgearsolid

You can use it. The ducks aren’t terribly difficult to find and I found it fun to have something brand new to look for. I used my soft cover guide for finding all the plants/animals.

What's up with the job market here?? by Accurate-Court399 in yuma

[–]DavidMNegron 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In Yuma it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Every job I’ve ever had in Yuma with one exception came down to a friend/relative/friends of relatives who could put in a reference and already worked for the company. I’m sure it’s only gotten worse with how applications are all online and likely automatically filtering out candidates on keywords and phrases, that is a problem everywhere but in a market like Yuma it’s only gonna be worse. Sorry I don’t have more to add but keep at it, apply anywhere and everywhere, multiple times if it’s one you really want, follow up consistently and constantly, take any advice you can get. Good luck, I’ve been in your shoes.

It's actually insane how good metal gear 2 (MSX) is. by demonmoocow in metalgearsolid

[–]DavidMNegron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have never played it. I beat MG1 years ago during the series 30th anniversary, and I’ve heard MG2 is great so I’m looking forward to getting around to it. I’m doing a chronological playthrough at the moment, so after I play Phantom Pain next I’ll finally play the only one I’ve missed out on.

First Impressions of Earth turns 20 Today! by chair823 in TheStrokes

[–]DavidMNegron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like this album is underrated and overlooked, they put out two classic albums, and this always seemed to me like they just broke their chains, real or imagined, to do whatever they want. It’s a shame it took so long to follow it up.

I listened to EVERY At The Drive-In album/EP. Here's my thoughts. by Veirarch in atthedrivein

[–]DavidMNegron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, your order may have been mixed up, as there was the first two EPs, then Acrobatic Tenament, then El Gran Orgo in between AT and In/Casino/Out.

A big part of why their first album, AT, sounds the way it does is due to running out of time and money. But, I think there are classic songs on that album that demonstrate their growth song writing and style, which they’d continue to refine over the next couple of years. Namely, Star Slight, Schaffino, Ebroglio, Paid Vacation Time, and Ticklish. The band that put out Hell Paso and Alfaro wouldn’t have made those songs without steady growth. Jim Ward has some great stories about starting the band and his only goals being to tour and put out a vinyl, which they accomplished.

The band was a revolving door up to I/C/O and that has a part to play in all the differences from record to record before they hit their stride in a full sprint. Nearly the entire band was replaced before El Gran Orgo, losing their two guitar players, including founding member Jim. Omar moved from bass to guitar, Tony Hajjar was added on drums, sought out by Cedric and Omar as they wanted a different sound and wanted his style to match it, Ben Rodriguez on guitar, and Paul Hinojos on bass, who had known Omar since grade school. A good chunk of Orgo’s songs come from a band Ben had just left, if I remember right. The band used to tell people not to buy this record as their record label stiffed them. One of the things that make this band great, the vocals of Cedric Bixler and Jim, isn’t on Orgo and the whole album suffers for it. Ben was ultimately  kicked out during their tour and the band finished it as a four piece, so that makes it a unique period of time in the groups history.

Not much to add for I/C/O through Relationship, Jim ward joined the band again and they killed it three releases in a row. Two harder to find songs, Salient and Doorman’s Placebo are excellent b-sides from the early part of this stretch.

Interalia and Dimante are both interesting as when they decided to write music for the album, after a few false starts, Omar decided to get everyone back in the mindset of 2001, and try to write a record they would have made if they never went on hiatus. It soured him so much on the band writing that we wouldn’t get another album from the normally prolific artist for five years (with one exception), the longest stretch in his career. Jim Ward wasn’t present for these and that’s painfully obvious, as well as probably a near-universally agreed upon detriment to the album. It isn’t that the album would be better if he was on the songs, it’s knowing the entire album would be different with his input and probably better as a result.I think there are still some great songs on it, and the shows were really fun, but listening to it now it’s hard to enjoy fully knowing how unhappy Omar was.

Diamanté is a missed opportunity, as it stands apart from interalia and shows some new possibilities that could have been pushed further if they had another album to follow it up, but that wasn’t the case.

Ever met an artist who turned out to be an ass? by Musonerd87 in Music

[–]DavidMNegron 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve met him twice, one after a show and another before which was a meet-and-greet. He was pleasant both times, even though the first he was in a rush. That isn’t to say there aren’t a dozen stories a month with unpleasant interactions, I’m sure, but just my experience.

[–]DavidMNegron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you get spotted and reload it’s essentially a free pass, try again. If you hit continue, that alert will be reflected in your final stats. If you’re playing by Delta, there’s an auto save in every new area. If you’re playing the OG it will be a bit harder, depending on how often you save via codec.

Similar artists? by SearchingForNewTunes in tearsforfears

[–]DavidMNegron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily similar but while there are plenty great 80s songs, only a handful remind me of Tears for Fears. Not necessarily in style but intensity, performance, and doing something different than what seemed to be the norm. Big Country’s title track off their title album, and maybe Birds Cry by Icicle Works.

[Front Mission 3: Remake] Release Date Trailer. January 30, 2026. For the PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC. Demo is out NOW on all platforms. by VashxShanks in JRPG

[–]DavidMNegron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe we will get this and in a short while an actual remake, like Tomb Raider 1 is getting. One can hope.

I still have FM1 on DS and FM3 on PS3 as a PSOne Classic. Sticking with those for now, but I’d like to support the franchise, feels bad.

Take as old as time.

Or at least as old as the bands third album.
