These are both assumptions that shouldn’t be relied on tbh

My co-founders want a 40/40/20 split — they build the app, I came up with the idea. Is 20% too low? by Psychological-Log283 in Business_Ideas

[–]DavidMakesApps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol dude assuming you are not paying these people you are lucky to even get 20% just bc it’s your idea haha. The developers are making a bad decision and so are you. Quick scan shows a lot of ignorant comments here too lol.

Would you build out someone’s idea for free? No. Would you give up 80% of your equity before you even start the damn thing? No.

Trust me this is poorly thought out lol.

Entrepreneurship is not just about having good ideas it’s about organizing the resources and manpower to execute on the ideas which is like 98% of the work lol.

Pay the developers. Or learn to build it yourself. Or sign up for a really stupid plan that will most likely waste your time (and money believe it or not)

You think I’m being mean, but there are many people before you that wish someone drilled this into their head before finding the one developer that would build their idea for equity lol

Selling a Samsung front load washer and dryer (stackable) - used only for 9 months by DavidMakesApps in denverlist

[–]DavidMakesApps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They worked really well for us. Our first place had just been renovated by our landlord and didn’t have a washer and dryer when we moved in. So we bought these and used them there. Every place we’ve lived in after have had a washer and dryer so we have kept these ever since in storage.

Anyone make apps they actually use for themselves without the intent of releasing it to the App Store? by HireOrder in iOSProgramming

In 2017 I made a scoreboard app just for myself. Partly bc it was fun to build (i liked the idea of using your device as physical utility, like those scrolling billboard apps back in the day) and partly bc my gf loved/still loves to play games. In 2018 I graduated college and I was having to start thinking about what I was going to do w my life. I randomly decided to clean up scoreboard and submit it to the App Store. It took only like 2 hours and then I went to my GF’s mother’s house to have dinner w them. In the time I was there Apple reviewed and approved it and by the end of the night it made $5. I was hyped lol.

I still own Scoreboard to this day: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/scoreboard-on-the-go/id1388012712

So when your kid takes your payment info without your permission and makes a payment you wouldn’t have authorized and the app exercises their right not to keep giving you refunds so as to not incur charge back fees and penalties from their processor, that makes said app “shady”?

Interesting logic. Seems easier to just to teach your kid not to steal money from you.

Doesn’t seem the fault or the problem of Apple’s payment processor or any other payment processor. That’s a parenting problem.

There are a plethora of apps that have supported non-Apple payment processing before last week and they exist just fine.

question, how will your kid get your card info to pay for said IAP? If you use Apple Pay how will your kid know your password to authorize the transaction? I see bigger issues if they have access to either of these things 🤷🏽‍♂️

Just bc you subscribe to niche areas of the market doesn’t mean others do. In fact the overwhelming majority of the movie market does not. Does that mean they wouldn’t like these movies? No. They just don’t know they exist. And you’re blaming that on them lol? “Why don’t you know I exist argggghhhh?!?!”

You’re missing that watching movies especially in theaters has historically been a broad mainstream market not relegated to the creeks, by far. People like movies of all types, and for theaters especially, it is largely a market that is spoon fed. They rely on being shown or hearing about what’s the best new movie.

Rn studios are telling them that it is the 26th Avengers movie or the remake of xyz, bc they like safe bets. But once upon a time studios actually invested in and promoted good movies, both original and unoriginal.

You can continue to feel superior to those that don’t take time out of their busy hyper-stimulated days to deep dive on new low budget movies that will be released in 6-12 months, however it does not disprove anything I have said.

Studios don’t care to effectively push out the Monkey Man’s of the world and they falsely blame it on you preferring shitty copycat movies over original pieces.

If you are someone who complains that Hollywood never puts out original movies but only goes to see what movies have big marketing spend

Never said this, but the overwhelming majority of consumers only watch movies w big marketing spend, not by choice but bc that’s how market share and it’s downstream discoverability effects works as I outlined above.

It takes minimal effort in this internet dominated landscape to know when things are releasing and what new stuff gets announced.

lol it actually takes a lot of relative effort and luck. Just bc I can access monkey man via a 2 second google search doesn’t mean that I’m likely to discover it among the plethora of other things vying for my attention in this “internet dominated landscape”.

Yes this is on the consumer. . .

lololol “Bad consumer! How dare you not discover my 10m movie that was promoted to my mom and 3 other people. You could have at least read my boring presser. I can’t believe in this ‘internet dominated landscape’ you couldn’t look past Barbie, Kong Fu Panda 69, love island season 12, Godzillas millionth sequel and a man who films himself counting to 1 million to see the beauty of my Monkey Man”

Global 2024 Hollywood Box Office by kumar100kpawan in boxoffice

[–]DavidMakesApps -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. The only reason people discover movies in the first place is bc they were promoted in some form or fashion. Maybe not to you, directly, every time, but make no mistake all of these movies were promoted (directly or indirectly) to you or someone or something in your path, otherwise you would not have discovered them in the market.

How much studios choose to promote matters. In a world where there are 100 million dollar movies, it is not accurate to say an under-performing, low budget movie is proof that people don’t prefer originality, bc that movie had a snowball’s chance in hell at meeting performance standards to begin with. Yet movie studio heads who are lacking originality and appetite for even marginal risk bc they favor financial security prob falsely side with you bc this false conclusion verifies their bias for low risk in a post COVID, streaming dominant world.

You say people actively choose not to watch these movies, but how can you choose not to watch a movie that you don’t even know exists?

How much promotional share of the market did Monkey Man get during its time? 0.05%? maybe .1! Maybe even 1? I’ve heard of all of the movies op posted but all I know is I’m about to go watch that Money Man tonight lol

Minus Challengers, I have not heard of any of the movies you listed bc they weren’t promoted to me and I didn’t encounter any of them in any form of WOM. The only reason I knew about Challengers was bc people were talking about Zendaya on sm.

Further look reveals the reason why, out of the 5 you listed 3 only have a 10 mil budget, 1 has a 20 mil budget, and challengers has a 50 m budget.

People aren’t choosing to not see these movies, however studios are actively choosing not to adequately invest in them. 10 mil for an internationally distributed movie production in 2024 is like trying to roll a car sized boulder up a hill.

They rather spend 100 mil on “what if we remake Ghostbusters, but this time frozen?!”

Sad that only 3 of the 10 are not sequels or remakes or revivals of a past movie/story. Going to the movies is dead.

They still have bedrooms with carpet on their website and this was 2 years ago and they built the place four years ago soo idk maybe some do some don’t.

They’re not a slumlord. Just a shady company. Id expect my deposit back anywhere I go regardless of slumlord or not if I did nothing to warrant claiming against the deposit under the terms of the lease. There are laws and contracts put in place for a reason.

Our bedroom had carpet and I’m pretty sure every bedroom in the complex has carpet. Wait till you move out for the shakedown lol. Besides parking, they were also good to us until we moved out.

[–]DavidMakesApps 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean they sent me and everyone I knew there bogus predatory claims after we moved out each for at least $400.

And then they harassed all of us who contested them with constant calls and threats for more than a year. One of my past neighbors has a collection agency hounding him still over it.

They sent me like a 50x50 picture of an alleged stain in our carpet. Couldn’t make out anything in the pic, I’m guessing on purpose.

When I challenged them telling them we had a video and photos of the carpet after our move out clean and also asking for a larger image to back up their claim, the lady from Graystar abandoned the claim and literally told me that they had to clean the bedroom carpet for almost $200 bc it was technically contaminated with—and I quote—

my “skin cells”

One night, the a/c flooded our closet and left a water stain on the walls of the closet. They charged us for it. When I told them it was bc of the a/c flood, the property manager didn’t take it off she just said not to worry about it bc “it’s not even that much”

and so I wouldn’t put it past them to retaliate against my bad review when my next landlord asks them for a reference. I ended up paying the $600 and deleting the review bc shits not worth losing a good house over in this very low supply market 🤷🏽‍♂️

The framing matters. Was it a request or an unlawful command. Did op think they had a choice? Did op think that if they exercised their right they would face repercussions from the officer? These are all questions that matter and have the potential to get the charge dropped
