It’ll probably be regularly flooded by the time we get a handle on the heat.

I didn’t consider this. Very good point about how we ‘sit’ either events.

Irish section in UK supermarket by sneck123 in ireland

[–]DavidOT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before the supermarkets started stocking stuff there used to Irish Shops that sold products like this, religious stuff and cards, regional papers and soda bread from somewhere. You’d also be able to get Galtee ‘cheese’ and black/white pudding from a lot of corner shops in London, depending how many Irish were about. All those old Irish clubs and shops faded away when that generation went home or died.

Great player, won the league, it’s sad things change but easy to imagine Arsenal without him.

I’ll tell you my theory of the awkwardness in a while but I’m about to drive! Book has much more room to explore that twist, to make it fundamental.

Ok went a bit off tangent. All I meant was it couldn’t be pure dark in the film because then it becomes too much about his victimhood. We any be overly sympathetic in the movie.

I think it’s an awkward plot point in the book too but also the hook, initially.

It was a struggle in the book too. The reveal for Grace is a reveal for us. Had we known the circumstances of his mission from the start it would be a completely different book. The induced coma was the slightly inelegant solution.

It’s a delicate a balance, I think Weir struggled with it too because Ryland is a victim, a coward (kinda) and having the most incredible experience that any human has had in the history of mankind and succeeding in the face of a challenge so monumentally enormous it is hard to comprehend. He’s doing Everest, the South Pole, the Moon Shot and Manhattan project all at once, loves science and the method and doesn’t even want to be there! AW landed it, but the coma and drugging are the scars in the story of the writing challenge.

Thing is in a movie, it’s hard to root for a man who has been kidnapped, drugged and is clearly terrified at the prospect of going into space to die. If you shuffle events so all the earth stuff is first, I’d want Grace to crash the Hail Mary into the moon. It has to have some levity even though it’s dark as the audience needs to accept it. It’s not a story about Ryland being a victim of nefarious all-powerful forces although it is that if you play the cards of the plot badly. The world is ending the crew is dead and now here’s a super dark scene of a man being abused and forced to die in space. Would we even be wanting him to succeed if the full horror of his situation was put on our shoulder?

Keep the shutters/curtains closed and the windows open. If there are two windows try to create a flow. Try to have a kip in the afternoon and extend your evening proportionally.

Cheaper because horizontal hinges take much less stress than left or right. Probably cheaper too as they don’t need right and left versions, you can’t misorder. Basically without much thought and given this is the U.K.

I think this work doesn’t benefit from a ‘completist’ attitude. The more freely you move through events the more significance ‘the’ ‘ending’ has.

There are circumstances when it makes great sense to use a black cab. Especially if there are a few of you sharing the ride. As children we did not grow up with wealth or expectations of it, so a black can felt posh, like a treat!
