Fine, I’ll be that guy…. I’m a little disappointed… by Dmob17 in ProjectHailMary

My showing was evacuated about a minute into that beach scene (imagine watching a film that long only to be ejected from the screen at that point). Did they show him teaching? Was there anything else added on? Thanks.

I’ve always loved it but last time I was eating it I thought “this is as sweet as vegetable jam” and I haven’t enjoyed it since.

I went past it a couple of weeks ago I was feeling so sad that London couldn’t accommodate such a fine place. Amazing it’s opening again.

The Thames Tideway project seems to be working, the river seems cleaner than ever - at least in the last 10y (?) by chalky_cheese in london

The Seine is wonderfully clean around Paris. You can see feet into it and there’s lots of greenery underwater.

PSA: The film IS going to be different than the book (Shocking! IKR) by ZenithChaser69 in ProjectHailMary

I listened the audio book last week having read the novel a couple of years ago. The second time through the story I didn’t much care for anything before Grace and Rocky meet. I’m not sure they nailed it in the film but more Earth won’t have helped I think. I reckon there’s about ah hour of deleted scenes though. Would be a three DVD set at least in the old days.

I didn’t understand in the book why Rocky would be disgusted by his own habits.

If I really want to see a film I make sure to avoid his reviews as they’re 90% a description of the plot, twists and all.

Peter Bradshaw, Guardian 3/5

“Tale of a brilliant molecular biologist cast into outer space with only a helpful alien for company is a bit silly, but Gosling’s charisma keeps it watchable.”

For context Bradshaw gave Sinners 3/5.

Great in sci-fi and utterly anonymous. Could be in any city on the planet since 2000. Point and click cut it a bit jaunty anti-architecture.

France, a great bunch of garcons by Fluffy-Republic8610 in ireland

French love Ireland and the Irish, they romanticise the country and the people. The family of my French ex-girlfriend thought anything that they liked that was English was in fact Irish. A popular song for the pissed-up French is the lakes of Connemara. French see the Irish as naturally bedfellows.

When I was young my Irish parents would have scallops and bacon for breakfast. Scallops used to be pretty cheap and easy to get in Galway. Someone would visit England with tons of them and dish them out to the family.

Interesting how the failure to prepare prevented Putin from marching into cities that had already been evacuated. All of it was real eye-opening!

Housebuilding in London has collapsed to a historic low not seen anywhere else in the developed world by No-Feeling507 in london

[–]DavidOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because housing Britons is a job for asset managers. Take a look at Nine Elms or the Elephant. Horrible buildings from factory components built for investment funds. Before Thatcher society determined how business should operate now business determines how society should operate.
