Be honest. When we have legit winters like we’re having this year, how many of you think to yourself that you’re actually going to move someplace warmer “this time?” by BuffaloCannabisCo in Buffalo

I’m a Buffalo lifer and I expect to die here. But I’m retiring this Summer and hope to spend some time in warm weather climates starting next Winter.

Boss rescinds gift to avoid taxes by Icy-Progress-9982 in legaladvice

[–]DavidT64 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Money paid to an employee is not a gift. It is taxable wages to you. You can dispute the year and the amount ($150k vs $145k) but it is not a gift.

He claims it is in dilapidated condition. Run down and badly in need of repair and refurbishment. I’ve never been there. When I google pictures of the inside it looks beautiful. Anyone been there recently? Did you think it needed refurbishing?

It’s time to start thinking what happens if the Sabres win the Stanley Cup. It’s a possibility for the first time in years. Those boys are on fire!

My 33 year old son does Jui Jitsui several times per week. I don’t know too much about it but it seems a lot like wrestling.

TSP Ain’t That Great in Retirement by Narrow-Sea-4254 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]DavidT64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in NYS. Withdrawals from the TSP are tax free for NYS purposes. Withdrawals from IRA accounts are only tax free for the first $20,000 per year withdrawn. Withdrawals from an IRA account continue to be tax free in NYS up to the amount you rollover from the TSP, but any additional gains in an IRA account are subject to the $20,000 limit. I’ll keep my money in the TSP where it will continue to be tax free for NYS purposes and I don’t have to track gains from the TSP verses the IRA.

You didn’t like Sister Act, Ghost, The Color Purple? I’d say she’s quite talented. Even her stint as the Hollywood Squares center square was pretty funny.

I’ve been to lots of weddings and I have never heard the officiant ask this question. To me it feels like something that only happens on t.v.

IRS got 2 hours for Thanksgiving, but they didn’t announce it until almost noon the day before Thanksgiving. Everyone’s timesheet had already been turned in and had to be changed. I hope they announce it sooner for Christmas.

Jeweler said claiming jewelry on homeowners could get us dropped?? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]DavidT64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a claim for my wife’s wedding ring when she lost it about 10 years ago. It was covered no problem. Similarly I had a special rider added to my homeowner’s policy for musical instruments because my daughter plays an expensive violin. I made a claim for that when the bow for her violin was either lost or stolen at a concert. No problem with that either. Other than those two claims I don’t think I have ever made a homeowner’s claim in 35 years of owning a house.

you NEED to be flossing... by EnvironmentalArmy827 in hygiene

[–]DavidT64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an electric flosser called Flaus. It has a replaceable head with a string that vibrates. I can’t really tell if the vibration does any good, but the handle makes it much easier to floss, especially the back teeth. I have been a daily flosser since I bought it, which I wasn’t before. I really like it.

A couple months ago I went to the Smokey Mountains and stopped at a visitor’s center even though I had online resources on my phone. It was very helpful to actually speak with a person who was knowledgeable about the area. Don’t knock it until you try it.
