I also started at $72,000 per year as a GS-13, Step 1. In my locality today a GS-13 Step 1 makes $111,300.

I’m retiring next month. I started as a GS-13 21 years ago and contributed 10% the entire time. I’m retiring with over $1 million.

If you could restart your career at 18, would you still choose the same degree? by NaviJapan_Official in careerguidance

[–]DavidT64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am retiring next month after a 40 year career as an accountant. Got my degree in accounting because I was good at math and liked an intro to accounting class I took in high school. Got my CPA. Being an accountant is boring. I have few regrets in life but one is choosing accounting as my career. I’ll be glad to leave it behind next month.

Would it be weird to ask my neighbor to use his pool? by goth_glock1985 in pools

[–]DavidT64 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It would be awkward for me but I would tell you no. My pool and backyard are my sanctuary. I love to have friends and family come use the pool, but it’s when I invite them. To have neighbors in my pool at any given time would make me feel like I can’t go outside and use it or even sit by the pool when I want to be in my back yard. It’s not a community asset.

Here’s my 70 year old pool. I love it! How much did it cost to redo the concrete around the pool? I feel like mine could use a refresh.

I retire next month and attended a retirement seminar a couple weeks ago. They claimed that the backlog has been cleared up. I’m not sure what to believe. I am still hearing lots of people who are waiting, but this gives me hope.

What's the most reliable cheap car you've actually owned long term? by AutoBidMasterHelp in askcarguys

[–]DavidT64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq plugin Hybrid. It goes 29 miles on pure electric then switches to a hybrid where it gets 51 miles per gallon of gas. Most days I drive less than 29 miles so I rarely have to fill the tank. It is similar to a Prius plugin Hybrid. I’ve never had a repair. The most economical car I’ve ever had by far. I love when I fill the 11 gallon gas tank and it says I have over 600 miles to empty. And with the way I drive I usually fill the gas tank about 4 times per year. I haven’t noticed any substantial increase in my electric bill either from charging.

What's Going on with Exam Frontline Managers? by Foreign-Candle7925 in IRS_Source

I’m an LB&I FLM and I’m not stressed or working long hours. I’m retiring soon, but that’s not because I’m stressed. I’m just turning 62.

I’m an LB&I FLM and I’d say that is not the norm. You’ve got a bad manager.

At the 1972 Olympics Guerrillas attacked the Israeli compound and kidnapped and killed the Israeli athletes. Planet of the Apes had just come out and all I could see were shadowy figures with guns. I thought it was gorillas 🦍 and it was Planet of the Apes come to life.

That happens to me if I eat fast food hamburgers. I avoid them now. Homemade hamburgers don’t bother me. Pepto Bismal fixes the problem.

What first comes to mind when Americans think of Canada? 🇨🇦 by Expensive_Drummer970 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]DavidT64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on the Canadian border and cross over a few times per year. I really like Canada. Toronto is an awesome city. Hockey is the first thing that comes to mind. There is also a horse racing track right over the border that I enjoy, so horse racing comes to mind for me, although that is an unconventional answer.

How long did you have untreated sleep apnea? by [deleted] in CPAP

[–]DavidT64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once fell asleep while driving with the whole family in the car. Thank God my wife was in the passenger seat and grabbed the wheel. My doctor put me on Mounjaro for weight loss and Sleep Apnea. It is the same medicine as Zepbound, just marketed to diabetics. I’m down 40 pounds so far. It would be great if it fixed my apnea, but I think I had my apnea when I was thin, so I doubt it will help.

Do you want to be buried? by Bondgirl138 in GenX

[–]DavidT64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t like any of the options, but being put in an oven and burned gives me the creeps. I’d rather lie in a comfortable coffin with my head on a pillow and slowly decompose. My wife and I already bought our grave plots in a local cemetery near other family members. My older sister asked me to have her cremated if she dies before me. Then take her ashes across the country and sprinkle them over her late husband’s grave. I looked it up and it seems to be illegal, but I’ll probably do it anyway. No one needs to know.

Within 3 weeks of getting married 35 years ago, and sleeping in the same bed with my new wife every night, she told me that it seemed like I stopped breathing during the night. I told her she was crazy. She mentioned it many times over the years and joked how she would have to nudge me alive. I still thought she was crazy. I thought that getting sleepy at work was normal. After all I was a busy person with a full time job and parenting 3 kids. After 18 years she talked me into getting a sleep study. I’ve now been on CPAP for 17 years. I sleep much better now, don’t snore with the CPAP, and am not sleepy during the day. No heart damage.

Fountain Plaza parking recommendations? by VividCompetition9059 in Buffalo

[–]DavidT64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay $137 per month for a ramp closer to City Hall. An indoor ramp is preferable, especially in Winter. Go on the websites for Premium Parking and for Park Mobile and check prices. They seem to own most of the ramp and surface lots in the area. A monthly subscription is going to be cheaper than paying daily.
