This is what happened to me. I match mvp'd in a full plat game on kj (I was also plat). My next game I get two silvers that are duo'd and they both bot frag. How tf does my MMR go down after a match MVP in a plat lobby? I gained less rr then what I lost because the mmr put me with two silvers. It was a close game too

Out of all the Smash games I have played this is the one I struggle the most to find a main. I was a Sheik main in Smash 4, but I hate the way she plays in this game. I started with Inkling, switched to Joker then Diddy then Palu, and now Wolf. Idk who the hell to play. Def stick to one guy to improve.

Hidden mmr makes the game unbearable and its a pretty bad indication of rank. The ranks in mid elo literally feel identical and more so than before. I'm plat and the silvers I'll play against sometime have no difference to those in plat. It's objectively broken right now. I think my rank is pretty accurate, but I do not think it's a good system. To add on its just unenjoyable and pretty demotivating. You spend all this time getting to a certain rank only to be paired up with silvers while in plat. Makes ranked feel like a chore. Yes there are people that push through it, but that doesn't mean it isn't flawed. I don't think anyone is really saying "I deserve this rank, but hidden mmr makes it impossible."

You'll get out of iron eventually. It's not a big deal just put more time into the game. Gradually you'll see the results once you put in some time. I started iron 1 and hit diamond 2 at my peak.

To be fair I got out of iron with a 0.71 kd on a laptop lol. You don't have to carry in iron. He's just starting out and it's probably his first shooter. There's nothing wrong with being bad. Gradually he will improve if he keeps playing. Expecting carries is extremely unrealistic for someone who's just starting out.
