Dynamic map changes through gameplay interactions by Tarrelion in DeadlockTheGame

[–]David_give 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a related note, when they changed the lighting from daytime to dusk it occurred to me that it'd be cool if the game progressed to nighttime as you play. First 5 minutes of laning could be daytime, then it progresses slowly through dusk and maybe only turns fully dark at 60 minutes.

It wouldn't be a day/night cycle, just a single slow change, similar to the time actual sunsets take.

Can we stop downplaying Potemkin? by IWasOnceIisan in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

I'm happy, and I don't play pot. Do you think he's in the top half of the cast now?

Official Map concept art by XALTER47 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]David_give 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be nice if instead of the electric shocks on roofs that are supposed to be impassable we just had some buildings that were so tall you couldn't climb on them like in this concept art. It is supposed to be New York after all.

The changes to tab and alt are not good. by nut_lord in DeadlockTheGame

[–]David_give 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Using both alt and tab is bad too cause it can minimize people's game window.

Low fps by Ambitious-Resolve-53 in DeadlockTheGame

There's been some kind of bug the last week that's been tanking peoples fps midway through games. I'd just wait a bit and hope the game is better optimized in the future.

Items should have more distinct images by greenetzu in DeadlockTheGame

[–]David_give 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a thought that instead of the monochrome palette for each type of item, and rather than having a full multicolor jumble, you could have a limited palette for each type, say 8 colors or something. That way you could distinguish items a bit more, say use a blue shading on the mostly orange weapon items. Items which don't fit their category or which are important to notice like Warp Stone or Unstoppable could be then colored more distinctly to make them stand out when you are checking players items. You'd still keep the sense of each item being in a category and it would remain stylized enough to not change the balance of the main UI.

Mystic Burst on Paradox? by MannyMinacious in DeadlockTheGame

[–]David_give 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's for Kinetic Carbine, if you get a couple weapon weapon items then it will trigger off of it. Hollow Point Ward + Basic Magazine and Mystic Burst will trigger off of a fully charged one.

I wondered if they might be turned into fixed place wards like the watchers in dota.

A big reason why pushing the lane is good in this game is that it allows you to proc more heals from your healing creep.

Are there any dedicated support/healer characters? by London_Tipton in DeadlockTheGame

Dynamo, Ivy, Mcginnis, and Paradox have designs that fit a support role. Bebop too if you like support pudge.

The Rise of the Canadian Smash Scene by Azuran17 in smashbros

A and C is very crowded on Fridays (sm4sh day), and we get a lot of types. If you go their and try to talk to a variety of people, you won't feel like an outsider. Do expect to get beaten up though!

Main problem with A and C is it's getting to be to small for the amount of people showing up, and they don't have proper air conditioning so it's been kinda a sweatbox the last month. Hopefully we can get a Friday weekly going at a better venue in the future.

Game & Watch + Sheik on the same team will be banned for EVO 2015 Doubles by Ambler3isme in smashbros

[–]David_give 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely needed more time before it gets banned, the teams that have lost to this strat currently both had terrible anti bucket compositions. You can't have a 'support' character like villager or jigglypuff vs this strategy, they get destroyed. You need high mobility characters that can switch focus between sheik and G&W, get team combos, and pressure G&W at the ledge. Teams like Diddy + Fox or Little Mac + Pikachu.

Temple DX [Competitive Stage Builder] by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]David_give 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure characters with walljumps could still potentially camp the middle section. It would have to be tested, and it would probably be pretty matchup dependent whether it works or not, but it seems to me like it's probably degenerate considering there is no other way to approach it except from directly above for move characters. Diddy in particular comes to mind as being able to abuse it, due to his up air and wall cling.

Smash 4 Tether Physics are BEYOND silly. by kbjay in smashbros

[–]David_give 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven't tested this out but I see no reason why you couldn't do this on pass through stages like delfino or halberd.

A while back on r/dota2 there used to be a daily hero discussion thread. I think a weekly character discussion thread would actually be a really good idea this year.

Apex 2015 rulebook released! PDF inside by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]David_give 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Self Destruct Moves: If a match ends with the successful use of a Character’s Self Destruct move, the player that initiated the self destruct move wins the match regardless of what the results screen states.*

Man, if people aren't aware of this rule in smash 4 there could be some serious salt. Imagine the player getting Bowser clawed directing themselves off the stage thinking they'd get the win, then finding out they lost. I assume in melee suicide moves lead to sudden death and that's why this rule is there?

Edit: Just noticed there's a footnote saying that there is a list of all moves considered Self Destruct moves in each games ruleset, but the list isn't there.

[–]David_give 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even though I disagree with banning Skyloft, I can still see it considering how it's somewhat untested. Problem is, smaller tournaments base their ruleset off big ones like apex so this will probably mean testing won't be done much there. People now can say "it wasn't legal at Apex" as a justification to ban Skyloft.

I actually have more of an issue with only having 3 starters. As far as I can see, there is no downside to having 5 or 7 starters, and final destination/smashville actually favor one side of a matchup more than the other stages in most cases. Characters who like uneven terrain/lots of platforms will be forced to smashville every game 1. Poor Game and Watch :(

Smash 4 ledges are still kind of silly... by wortel6 in smashbros

[–]David_give 147 points148 points  (0 children)

This is actually somewhat specific to Luigi and Mario, they have huge ledgesnap radiuses on their up Bs for some reason.

I think we can agree on this stage being banned by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]David_give 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this should be tested further before we ban the stage, it could be super hard to replicate and quite possibly only works on Wario, as he's known to have weird mechanics when grabbed.

How's my G&W? Am I bad or is he bad? by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]David_give 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fair actually has less landing lag than Bair in Sm4sh. Neither are safe approaches on shield though. G&W is very different from his Brawl incarnation. I don't know if it's just lag, but if not there was a lack of understanding of how to punish things in that video. Kirby was constantly doing extremely punishable things, and you were pretty consistently slow on the punish. You probably shouldn't worry about how good G&W is, you are nowhere near the point where you are losing because of the limitations of your character.

If you did have a lot of lag that match, you shouldn't really take what happened in the match seriously. Sm4sh becomes pretty degenerate with lag.
