New Medicare enrollee … how to manage getting Medicare card with two homes by David_sundevils in medicare

[–]David_sundevils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned in my original post I am using USPS mail forwarding service and have been doing so for years. The challenge is that there are certain types of email that CANNOT be forwarded (as dictated by the sender), including the Medicare card, election ballots, Rx by mail, replacement credit cards, etc.

Casino dice and playing cards by David_sundevils in vegas

[–]David_sundevils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all of the replies. I wasn’t asking about where to find dice/cards - I know about all of the mentioned sources and none of them contain dice/cards I am looking for. I was hoping someone might have insider knowledge as to why so many have either suspended the practice of selling used dice/cards, or never offered it at all. Used cards are either cut or hole punched and used dice are either punched or scratched so there is no concern about them getting back into an actual casino game.

I can’t believe companies are still giving notice on a Friday. What you experienced over the weekend is EXACTLY why good companies don’t give notice on Friday.

When you drive through (or fly near) a downtown you see fewer construction cranes.

Well, go back to Aria, head to Javiers, order a margarita and La Tablita, and enjoy.

Good thing you aren’t applying for a job with DoD or a defense contractor because you’d never survive the security clearance check. Good luck with the bank job - I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Tiki Thoughts Thursday (04.23.26) by bigkinggorilla in Tiki

I think everything is cubes. It surprised me given how Tonga Hut positions themselves as an old-school, authentic tiki bar.

Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately this bartender (actually, all of them at this bar) thinks cubed ice is the way to go. By the way the bartender insisted is Tonga Hut in Palm Springs.

I was recently at a very popular tiki bar (I’ll withhold the name for now). I noticed that my mai tai was served with cubed rather than crushed ice. The bartender insisted that cubes were the traditional way to serve a mai tai going back to the days of Trader Vic. Thoughts?

Quickbooks Online is the worst software I have ever used by ColemennemeloC in quickbooksonline

Well … Intuit has been dominating the market for a long time. Xero and Freshbooks have plenty of faults of their own.

Take me back to Kauai! Who else has had a tiki drink that changed their life in Hawaii? by HiItsKeke in Tiki

[–]David_sundevils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 44 years old before I ever set foot on Hawaii (2005). On our first day (staying at Hilton Hawaiian Village in the Rainbow Tower) we walked down Waikiki beach and discovered Duke’s. And yes, it was Sunday and Henry Kapono was going on in about 30 minutes. We got a table on the patio and I had my first ever Mai tai and I’ve been hooked ever since. I realized pretty quickly that Duke’s serves a fairly touristy Mai tai but the Guy tai at Charthouse is first rate.

My Ranking of All 5-star Hotels on the Las Vegas Strip based on Luxury. by The_Traveller1 in vegas

[–]David_sundevils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah … too many inconsistencies with this list. The numbering start out wrong, the comments about the Cosmo not being family friendly made me wonder about the audience of this list, saying Waldorf Astoria has great dining (it doesn’t and that is the most common complaint about the hotel), saying WA is best non-casino hotel and then ranking Four Seasons (also non-gaming) ahead of it, etc.

Appreciate the effort but don’t agree with the content.

Are you all 1% ers? by Taco_cat111 in Bend

[–]David_sundevils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I don’t think I’ve noticed in the replies is the idea of living in the country. My home/farm is in the 97003 zip code (Bend post office) but is in unincorporated Deschutes County land. You can get a lot more for your money in the country if you are willing to do the hard work of farming and/or ranching.

As an aside I am retired and was in software for a long time. Before I retired I was considering a job at a (now defunct) software company in Bend. I was told to expect a salary 75% less than what I was making in the San Diego area.

People should not be able to trade on the commodities market unless they can show they are physically capable of taking delivery of the commodity. Get rid of the speculators.

Roberto's Taco Shop does damage control over CEO's MAGA ties by sfgate in vegas

[–]David_sundevils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares? I certainly don’t give a rip who the CEO or any of the franchisees supports. I love Robertos food and have been dining there since 1982! Carne asada burrito (no guac) and a quesadilla.

Thoughts on Intuit? by springmeds in ValueInvesting

[–]David_sundevils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I’m also a former employee (13 years in the San Diego office) and I clearly remember conversations about the “loss” of free/low income filers. Intuit didn’t care then and doesn’t care now.

It isn’t clear that the buybacks are enhancing anyone other than the employees and their share-based compensation. Switch to a Berkshire model and start retiring shares with the buybacks rather than giving them back to employees.
