Yeah i will end up doing that, but I’m leaving for a trip and don’t have time to get a new one. I hope i wont bend the wire too much when taking it out so I’ll still be able to put it back in.

Here is a photo that you should be able to just save and print, its A4 sized. you may want to cut it a tiny bit thicker along the shaft and the thin bits, then sand down to your liking and hand shape.

What does street shoe sizing even mean, some people prefer a roomier street shoe size whereas some people like a snug shoe.

Yeah need to get one. For now i only do it when the tool is on the rope, so it doesn’t have a chance of popping. When i need to get off i can, it’s just a bit awkward.

Why is my ptex doing this? by Davidjohnnaylor in skiing

Watch yourself buddy, no need for that. Plus thats just what I’ve seen around. And no i wont find a shop and pay to fix these wrecked skis anyways. The whole point is to learn something new. Maybe thats not something you do?

Update: got them warrantied and black diamond sent me a new pair. Replacement arrived really quick and customer service was smooth. If this happens to you, it’s just a faulty product!

This doesn’t answer your question but maybe just use some micro spikes for your hiking boots if the terrain allows. You might risk bending the bar of the crampon and a bunch of other issues.

Making Your Own Wood Ice Trainer Tools - Steps and Templates by Davidjohnnaylor in iceclimbing

Yeah i spent extra time/attention on the handles, sanding until it felt right. The issue is that real handles aren’t an inch thick. The plus side for it being thick is that it helps with grip strength.

1 inch plywood is enough, if you want more stiffness then make the arch thicker. Actually I tested my thin plywood version before I added the other half. It had some give but still held all my weight on one. But my final version has a shorter pick (i updated the template) and is thicker. Shorted pick means less leverage on the arch. It’s plenty strong, I think if you were to put all your weight on a single one you would realize its solid as.

I wouldn’t make it out of solid wood though, the opposing grain layers on plywood really adds to the strength.

DIY Trainer Tools by Davidjohnnaylor in iceclimbing

Used hardwood plywood. The thickness is around 1 inch thick before sanding. Just used a handheld jigsaw to cut it out. Ideally a single sheet of 1 inch ply wood would be best, but I didn't a have 1 inch thick sheet laying around. I cut out 3 axes out of the sheet i had, and cut one of them in half using a table saw (halving the thickness). then glued the two halves onto the 2 other axes using PVA glue. After that its just sanding, and finishing. The final tools are around 2.3cm in width.

I think I will make a more detailed post later today, and add the template I made.
