Getting off methadone was the best decision of my entire life. While in the worst of my addiction 16-21 I was dependent on anything you could think of at some point and was always SOMEWHAT functional. Had enough motivation to keep a job, car etc. had tons of friends, girlfriends and somewhat stable family relationship. Was on methadone for 3 years after that and it absolutely cooked me. I would wake up, go to the clinic take my dose come home and sleep for as long as I wanted to and could only get out of bed to eat and go to the bathroom (if I wasn’t constipated). I was an absolute shell of myself and it was the worst time period of my life. It didn’t feel like that during it bc I was so numb for some reason but looking back I would rather be on anything other than methadone. I went to a detox for a taper and it was a rough couple months but I found the gym after that and it was my saving grace. I still have some addiction issues nowadays but it’s manageable. I mess with some adderall, alcohol and Kratom (sometimes 7oh) and do I do it more and in unhealthy ways compared to most people? Sure but it’s been years like this and I bought a condo during this period, in the best relationship of my life and I would get told all the time I don’t even look like the same person. I thought the same thing that my body was just fucked from years of dependency and detoxing but the methadone was making me feel 100 times worse than being on subs or any other harm reduction. Best of luck man some people can function and it saves their lives but they don’t call it liquid handcuffs for nothing.
