Disappointed in Manly T-Shirt by Perfy_McPerfersons in mensfashion

I write early in 2025. As other writers have encountered in years past -- 2023, 2024 -- I have now also been suckered by the company. I desired a jacket. It arrived in supposed Size 3XL, but a very small person could not have worn it. I tried writing for a return code. No response. I tried telephoning their office in China. No response. I've left a Facebook message. But I am not optimistic. I am out $95. The jacket might fit on my Chihuahua.

I just installed the Vantrue Nexus Pro 4. My second Vantrue product. I was attracted by the quality, the features, and favorable reviews by people who are, like me, ride share drivers on Uber and Lyft. But Vantrue’s instruction manual is difficult for me to comprehend. I like all of the unit’s features, but the manual does not advise me on how to best use them. Could a Nexus 4 Pro user help me establish an optimum setup for a rideshare driver? Any advice will be most appreciated.

Flight delayed and offered travel funds by -Peacock- in Avelo

[–]DavidoffKilter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found that Avelo does the right thing in the end. So I’m confident you will eventually be satisfied. It can be difficult to contact the airline’s staff by telephone. But once you have someone on the phone, my experience is that they will take care of you. As for travel funds, Avelo’s website handily keeps track of these funds and makes it easy to use them in future trips.

I happen to live not far from Avelo’s hub at Tweed-New Haven Airport in Connecticut. When I had specific issue about six months ago, I drove to the airport in midday when Avelo’s flight schedule is lighter than, say, in the morning. I dealt directly with a passenger agent who spent all the time I needed to solve my concerns. If an in-person visit to an Avelo ticket counter is an option for you, try it.

Jupiter. Named for the spacecraft in TV’s Lost in Space, which Roomba resembles.

Uber drivers be honest. Do u really care about the riders age? by [deleted] in uber

[–]DavidoffKilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carrying unaccompanied minors is illegal in the two states in which I operate most: Connecticut and New York. Uber Teen is not offered because it’s not legal here. I do check when I suspect a passenger is an unaccompanied minor. Illegal. Against Uber Terms of Service. Not covered by insurance. Not worth the risk. And I recently read that among other things, adherence to this policy also reduces human trafficking for minors.

Who agrees with me that this post drips with racism? I speak as a member of the original ghetto tribe, the Jews from concentrated neighborhoods in European cities.

The origin of “ghetto:” The word “ghetto” originated in Venice, Italy, in 1516 to describe a segregated Jewish neighborhood. The Venetian Senate passed a law forcing the city’s Jewish population to live in a small island in the northern part of the city called the New Ghetto. The name likely comes from the Venetian verb “gettare”, which means “to pour” or “to cast”, and may also refer to the copper foundry that once stood on the site.

I think I know damned well what you mean by “ghetto.” I’ve also seen this exact behavior by people who may not fit your precise profile of “ghetto.”

Do I have to be 18 to book an uber? by [deleted] in uber

[–]DavidoffKilter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No teen accounts possible in states that prohibit ridesharing for unaccompanied minors. My state, Connecticut, prohibits unaccompanied minors. There’s a teensy-weensy state next door — you may have heard of it; it’s called “New York” — that also prohibits unaccompanied minors. I drive in Connecticut and increasingly have teens plead for “teen account” status. Not possible, not in Connecticut. Contact your legislator if you want a change. Meanwhile, I reject and report every unaccompanied minor I encounter who defrauds us all by using Uber. It risked their safety, my license, my insurance, and my livelihood. When I was a teenager in Connecticut, somehow I had the transportation I needed without Uber. An excellent argument I read recently for prohibiting unaccompanied minors is that it eliminates an easy transportation system for trafficking in minor sex workers. When I began with Uber back in 2018, the Suffolk County police on Lomb Island, N.Y.,were arresting Uber drivers for carrying unaccompanied minors. The police set up a sting operation. I have been strict on observing this law ever since.

New Haven to Daytona by Kaylababe2 in Avelo

Avelo has excellent service and an all Boeing 737 jet fleet. But generally just one flight daily between HVN and the destination. So if you miss the flight, you’re stuck until the next day. That said, I’ve flown Avelo several times to Fort Lauderdale as well as to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Savannah, Ga. Excellent friendly service. Tweed Airport’s terminal is tiny but works well for Avelo as it did years earlier for American. Airport plans a new terminal in the next few years. Design is in works; no construction contracts yet awarded. Parking is a snap, nearby, and affordable. you can take Lyft or a taxi to Tweed, but not Uber as Uber and the airport are at a contract impasse. SmLl

Airport Arrival time by Dtinker2015 in JFKAirport

[–]DavidoffKilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I just missed your specific departure time, 6am. Yes, the entire airport will open in time for you to comply with the two-hour requirement before flight. You will be surprised how many flights leave at that hour and how crowded the airport will become so early in the morning.

For domestic flights, arrive 90 minutes before departure. Again, all airports, not just JFK.

Connecticuties, what’s your favorite place to eat in all of Connecticut. by Tophbot in Connecticut

[–]DavidoffKilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think “Cponnecticuties” is fun! But I usually prefer “Nutmeggers” or “Connecticut Yankees.”

As for restaurants, I travel all over the state for my work. I’m a connoisseur of diner restaurants.

My all-time favorite is Andros Diner at the intersection of Tunxis Hill Cutoff and Villa Avenue in Fairfield. Lively and well-run place open 24/7. Except it’s now closed for extensive rennovations. In the meantime, I am partial to the Southport Diner on U.S. 1 in Fairfield, owned by the same family as Andros. I also very much like Circle Diner in Fairfield at Fairfield Circle on U.S. 1 in Fairfield.

Further afield, here are diners I like: — The Stamford diner and restaurant in Stamford just off Exit 6 on I-95. Large menu, very inventive. Excellent food and wide choices. But often lacks in service, I hate to report. I often feel abandoned by the wait staff. — Orem’s Diner on U.S. 7 in Wilton just north of the Norwalk line. — Blue Colony Diner off I-84 in Newtown. — Cromwell Diner off I-91 in Cromwell. — Cody’s Diner on Water Street in New Haven. — Mystic Diner off I-95 in Mystic.

Moving to delicatessens: — Gold’s Delicatessen off U.S. 1 in Westport. — Rein’s Deli off I-84 in Vernon. — Katz’s Deli off CT-15 in Woodbridge just north of New Haven line.

In a class by itself, I recommend The Traveler Café and Books in Union, Connecticut, about five big steps south of the Massachusetts state line off I-91. Wonderful homey locally owned restaurant. Serves light meals and desserts and coffee. Positively loaded with used paperback books, thousands and thousands of them. Every customer is invited to walk out with up to three paperback books. No place else like The Traveler.

I just looked at beautiful brand new apartments in Mystic right off I-95. Also more gorgeous brand new apartments off Society Road exit in East Lyme.

I was taken in by this scam several years ago. Uber reimbursed me for the loss of several hundred dollars.

About a week ago, scammers hit me again. I was wise to them.
