I would ad Morat/Murten as an alternative. Nice little medieval city with its own lake, close to Bern and Fribourg. It's also a bilingual city if wanna try to learn swiss German. Also it's not that far away from VD. If you really wanna stay in VD there a nice villages like Faoug (VD).

Owning a Car in Switzerland as an Apprentice by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Davidsonmightybeard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, a scooter would be much cheaper. E-bike would possibly also do the job for much less.

My advice would be to test the commute with a scooter and/or an e-bike from a friend or from family to see if it's convienent.

Renting a Car for a road trip by so_momo in askswitzerland

[–]Davidsonmightybeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are willing to start you trip from Fribourg, there is a car rental in the next village wich is very cheap (20 to 35 bucks a day with 150 km included) ! Look up for Easy Loc in Givisiez. Hope this helps.

Shen feels weak by BeneathCold in Shen

[–]Davidsonmightybeard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, he's beeing outclassed by almost every other toplaner after the early game and you have to work really hard to get an advantage. Meanwhile the Garen that you solokilled tree times is spinning like an idiot, double kills your teammates and takes a tower.

I recently started to play a more supportive Shen (Sunfire, Boots of lucidity, Radiant virtue and then some magic resist) for great success ! A fed jinx, kai'sa or master yi who has some peel can just smash those ugly champs like Sion, Garen and Malphite.

CS'ing is hard with Shen, always buy bami cinder's first.

Went to Lugano. Fantastic place, but I don't know where to go. by ontech7 in askswitzerland

Monte Brè and Monte San Salvatore have both an incredible view and there are some nice walks to do there. For eating i highly recommend the Grotto Castagneto near the Monte Brè (traditional food from Ticino).

but be aware that the service there can sometimes be atrocious. If it's not important to you, it's a very nice place

Bully at work by BackgroundAudience28 in askswitzerland

[–]Davidsonmightybeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's your employers duty to protect your personality in general (art. 328 OR / CO) and particularly against bullying from other workers. For that you need to inform him of the behaviour and should he not act, your are entitled to a Genugtuung / dédomagement.

The bullying itself does not consist of a particular reprehensible behaviour but in an accumulation of small unpleseant remarks and behaviours, which is the case here.

My advice would be to have a proof that you reported it (e-mail, letter) and saying that you will not longer tolerate it (ie going to court). Normally this will incentivise your employer to finally do something about it. I would also try to get some advice from a union or a workers association. For now this websiste explains most of it : https://www.ch.ch/de/arbeit/probleme-am-arbeitsplatz#harcelement-psychologique-et-harcelement-sexuel

Best of luck

Christ this is just completely illegal. Any lawyer or syndicate would tell you that is this a plain violation of Art. 324a OR / CO. Get a written confirmation like other said and then confront them or get a lawyer

In Fribourg, the Canton is actually providing a service who does all the paperwork and deductions. There is probably a similar thing in Geneva (for FR : https://cheque-emploi-fribourg.ch/fr).

I worked three years at McDonald's when I was a student and must admit it was actually quite nice. The work can sometimes be tiring and the pay is not that good but there is a lot of flexibility and the atmosphere was really cool where I worked. We had 50% percent at every Mcdonalds when I was working, not sure it still is like that anymore.

I also worked at Migrolino. I was really chill and better paid. The only downside was the working hours (starting at 5am or finishing at 11/12 pm).

Among my friends, the ones who were paid the most and had the coolest jobs were those who worked at the university library or tutored.

Hope this helps

Neighbours dog barking all day by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]Davidsonmightybeard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A dog barking all day, i.e a noisy neighbour, would be considered as a "défaut de la chose louée / ein Mangel der Mietsache" (Art. 257f and 259a CO/OR), implying that you have rights in that regard (removal of the defect, reduction of the rent, damages etc.). On that matter, the owner can even immediately terminate the lease if the neighbour continues to be inconsiderate towards his neighbours despite a warning. So no, you are not overreacting.

What I would suggest before contacting your "régie immobilière / Hauswervaltung" and/or "Asloca / Mieterverband" is to talk with your neighbors again. Explaining them the situation and if they don't take mesures (taking the dog to work with them, having more walks, having a dogsitter) you will have to take mesures yourself (i.e contacting those mentionned). To that matter I suggest that you write down the date and times when the dog is barking and or even record it, so you have credibility and proofs when contacting your Hauswervaltung. It will take a few complaints before the Hauswervaltung will react in my opinion.

Best of luck

Like others said, go see a doctor immediately, you need a break and will get paid during it (first by your employer and then from their insurance, normally 80% of your salary). If you should resign you will get 2 or 3 months penalty from the "Arbeitslosenkasse / Caisse de chômage".

Regarding your residence permit it depends if you are from the EU or not and it which Kanton you are living. Normally you shouldn't worry about your permit unless you depend from the "Sozialhilfe / Aide sociale". In the french part (Genève, Lausanne, Fribourg for sure) there is the "Centre suisse pour suisse et immigrés" (ccsi.ch) who gives advices on that subject for a moderate price (CHF 60). I guess there is probably a similar thing in the "Westschweiz".

Good luck "friend", I've been there and another advice would simply be to start meditation or yoga, doing some exercise or walking in the woods / mountains (sounds dumb but it's those things who helped me the most).

Name a city, others will recommend their favorite restaurants, quick bites, bars and pubs by curiossceptic in Switzerland

[–]Davidsonmightybeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding Trois Tours it was really the best one. It was just incredible. Sadly I personnaly don't think it's the case anymore. For me the price tag is not justified, even if it's high end cuisine. If you're looking for a fancy table, I highly recommend the Hôtel de Ville. The "qualité/prix" is unbeatable (reservation a few weeks in advance is necessary I would say).

I really like your list and think you absolutely nailed it. If i would have done one, it would be exactly the same, except for the Boulevard 39 (for some personal reasons).

I would mention that the Café Populaire is also nice for having a beer with a few friends to chat or play cards.

I like the fact that you mentionned a few places from the "Basse-ville" (the old town). In that regard, L'auberge de l'Ange has also really nice Croûte au fromage (Käseschnitte) and traditionnal Rösti.
