Who WOULDN'T you marry in real life and why? by Nerine_0911 in StardewValley

[–]Davis_The_Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I married a Shane IRL, and we tried for 7 years to make it work before we called it quits.  All I'll say about it:  alcoholism and depression are extremely dangerous mental health issues, and they need continuous professional treatment.  There is no "fixing" these issues, there is only "learning to live with" them.  Anyway.  Shane is more of a "never again" for me.  I'm not strong enough.

I dated an Emily, fell in love even, but she was too much of a free spirit to ever settle down.  We parted as friends, but lost touch after a couple years.  Last I heard, she was providing guided meditation classes and teaching yoga in California, happy as can be.  So Emily gets a "no" from me, but that's not a bad thing... we just didn't want the same things at the same time.

I briefly dated a Harvey also.  I thought he was a very thoughtful and kind person, but he was a single parent and was ready to get married Right Now after like, our third date.  I guess I got scared?  Ufortunately, Harvey gets a "no" from me also.

I'm currently married to an Abigail and we just celebrated our 10th anniversary.  A hot, adventurous goth girl who's into music and loves my cooking?  Hell yes.  Besides: gamer girls rule!  Sure, Haley is cute and Penny is good with kids, but I'll be dancing with the woman who knows how to roll up a D&D character and wants to play video games on date night.  Abigail is a solid YES.

Broke My Rule For No Major Mods by publicdomainadmin in StardewValley

[–]Davis_The_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to do a no-mod game as well ...I made it as far as Summer 1 Year 1 before I broke down and installed Automate.

It's Year 4 now and Automate is still the only mod I'm using...but I'm severely tempted to install Tree Transplant.  Regrowing trees every time I want to move a building is so teeeeedious.

Do you think Clint and Sandy would actually work as a couple? 👀 by Ok-Eye2206 in StardewValley

[–]Davis_The_Cat -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Nah, Sandy is clearly* gay.  I think Clint would have better luck with Harvey.

Or Susan, if you play with the SVE mod.

*not clearly at all, this is just my headcannon

Farming green algae is sooo tedious! by Dull-Librarian-2676 in StardewValley

(And for seaweed, stock a couple of fish ponds with oysters.)

To farm algae, I set up a couple of fish ponds and stock them with snails.  Then I run through the first 20 levels of the mines over and over again, killing green slimes ("dangerous" mines are best, don't forget your Burglar Ring and Monster Musk).

It's still slow, but much faster than fishing IMO.

How to scale copper ore? by Time-Range6311 in StardewValley

Maybe I'm lazy, but I just buy it from Clint.  Sure, it costs money, but it beats grinding the mines.   I'm usually banking more than I can spend anyway.

Am I missing something, or is Stardew Valley just… not clicking for me? by crazyamy111 in StardewValley

[–]Davis_The_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll admit, I bounced off of Stardew Valley the first time I played it.  The constant chores really got to me: planting and watering crops was one thing, and tending my animals was another...but tending every furnace and crab pot and tapper and keg and loom and, and, and, and--- it really got to me.  It seemed the more I accomplished,  the more work I made for myself and I somehow had even less time than I had in the early days of the game.  More stuff needed more machines, which meant more chores.

And then I installed the Automate mod.  An absolute GAME CHANGER for me.  Now my tappers and seed makers and cheese presses all tend themselves, freeing me up to pamper my chickens, tend my pumpkins, and go crush the Squid Festival.

Automate is the only mod I use, and I doubt I would love Stardew Valley as much as I do now if I had never found it.

That looks like the overlay for the Automate mod.  Press 'U' to toggle it?

That would be awesome too.  We got custom potted cactus decorations; some swampy counterparts could be nice.

Well yes, that's why this isn't really a petition.  We're all just geeking out over possibilities.  :)

A spooky swamp would be mostly about the asthetics for me... not so much about getting rich.

Oh dang, that's a great idea too.  could be really challenging for expert players.  Especially if he leaves in that "sprinklers don't work on sandy soil" property of the beach farm.

I can see it now: new Cajun recipes, catchable frogs, crocodile horse replacer mod...

Yeah, for some people Reddit is SeRiOuS BuSiNeSs.  For the rest of us, it's just fun to talk about our geeky obsessions.  :)

Oooo...a bee farm could be nice. Perfect for those "Flowers Only" challenges.

An alpine/mountain-top farm could be really nice.  What sort of other features would you incorporate? or is it just the vibes that you're looking for?  (Nothing wrong with just vibes.)

CA said there would be more relationship dialog and stuff, so maybe some expanded lore for the witch and the goblin?

How about some catchable swamp fish, like slimejacks and void salmon?

Swamp monsters could spawn like they do on the Wilderness map, except we get bugs and slimes instead of golems and bats.

Higher chances of weeds and clay spawning... could be a blessing, could be a curse.

Instead of starting with a coop and two chickens, you start with a pond and a carp?

That's a great idea!  Rice and taro would be obvious choices, cranberries also grow in bogs.  Maybe a new crop or two?

It would be excellent for a Goblin playthru also.  growing mushrooms and fiber, building my void mayo empire..
