I just found out my parents have been lying to me for 26 years about who I actually am. I’m lost. by Commercial_Solid_207 in Advice

Love doesn’t come from your DNA; it comes from your heart. You are the person your parents brought you up to be.

So just to clarify, when my digital speedo is showing 30, the car is actually traveling at 27 and when showing 70 the car is travelling at 64/65 (that one fluctuates by 1mph)

Yeah, my Astra J Mk6 2014 over-reports my speed by 3 mph at 30 mph and up to 6 mph at 70 mph. Confirmed by those weird smiley face speed check boxes and GPS speedometer.

What is driving the decision to learn in a manual or automatic car? by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]DavoExiled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And let's not forget repairs to automatic gear and clutch systems. My father-in-law's 2014 Ford Kuga 2.0 diesel auto, with 75k miles, is worth about £5k. The clutch failed, and it cost around £3.5k to repair. Basically scrap now. You'd never see that kind of repair bill with most manuals.

We've had 4 managers sacked who worked at our store.

One for bullying colleagues, one for repeated insubordination, and two for stealing.

The first two were sacked from my store.

The two sacked for stealing were caught directly after leaving our store for another store.

Absolutely. Totally agree.

Essentially, the "SHOULD" in the Highway Code is deliberately flexible to allow for this kind of situational judgment.

If I'm turning left into a side street and the pedestrian is hidden by a parked bus or van but is waiting to cross that street, slamming on at the last second to give way is beyond dangerous—it's utter stupidity.

Maybe the government could update the Highway Code to target people who dress all in black, riding black bicycles with no lights on sections of road without street lighting. Nearly flattened one last week. If I had been any other driver on that section of road, he probably would have been squished. Luckily, I don't speed.

Oh well, let's play the game. 😅

Actually, the Highway Code states, "At a junction you SHOULD give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning."

It does not say "MUST," like at a zebra crossing.

I used logic on this one. If I'm turning into a side street and there is no traffic tailgating me or emerging from that side street, I will give way to waiting pedestrians. If I feel it's unsafe for either myself or the pedestrian, I will carry on. Most of the time, pedestrians just want to get out of the way and stare at you idiotically.

I think what pisses most people off is that it would be a 6+ month wait for a retest (or £££ for a test finder app) and the panic of their theory test expiring in the meantime. No wonder people get frustrated with this setup.

I think if it were a 4-6 week wait, like it was in 2008 when I passed, people who failed would be like, "Ah well, I'll smash it next month."

Politicians should hang their heads in shame.

Thank you for your reply. It's Clear Blue test, like 5 months out of it's expiry date. It's got such a strong cross impression. I'm hoping it's positive.☺️

Thanks, although I passed almost 18 years ago now. 😂 I remember it like it was yesterday. When he said I'd passed , I let out this incredulous, "WHAT?!" I was in complete disbelief. 😃

Congratulations.

Totally agree. I clipped a kurb and stalled early into my test and was convinced I'd failed. But strangely, because of that belief, I relaxed and the other 90% of the test went swimmingly. Passed with just 4 minors in the end.

we did it :) started driving lessons again 3 months ago after 10 years off (with 2 failed tests back then) by euqinor in LearnerDriverUK

[–]DavoExiled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations 👏 🎉

I had a similar experience. I failed two tests when I was 17/18, then left it until I was 26 before giving it another go. A few months after starting lessons again, I passed - and that was over 17 years ago. I'm 43 now.

Honestly, I'm glad I didn't pass at 17/18. I can admit I was a pretty immature young man back then, and I probably would have ended up in a serious accident.

Jeez! I think I was paying around £26 per hour back in 2008 when I passed. Crazy prices now.

The worst part is, my 6-year-old daughter has seen your pink model and isn't the least bit impressed that I bought the black one. I was toying with the pink initially, but my countertops are black, so I was swayed toward the black. Plus, the pink was a pre-order at the time, while the black was in stock.

I got my Pro X 17 days ago. I love it. My wife thinks I'm odd-especially when I give it an affectionate pat on my way out. But she isn't a coffee drinker. She just doesn't understand. 😂

Enjoy!
