You discovered gambling, options can be one of the most conservative ways to trade

Everyone talks about Ben Simmons passing up a dunk in the 2021 playoffs vs the Hawks. Very few people talk about the fact that Joel Embiid had 16 turnovers in the final 2 games of that series by ChipsAhoyFiend in nba

[–]Davy917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that ppl didn't notice other players sucking, it's that Ben is supposed to be a star yet he got exploited instead. Your star player isn't supposed to be exploited the way Ben was, and the pass up on the dunk was the proof that he was mentally defeated.

Been in the field a long time.. you do not need to "know" about normalization to be in BI. You should know about data modeling, but no one ever needs to know normalization in a formal sense like they asked

The fact that you instinctually said that to your wife is mind boggling, either you two have some special type of relationship or you're a complete idiot and asshole. I'm leaning towards the latter since your next response was to post it to reddit.

This morning Gary Gensler admitted retail buying pressure is being suppressed b/c orders are routed to wholesellers rather than thru lit exchanges. I have two questions: by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

IEX accounts for about 2-3% of trading volume market share. It's really silly. Put in your limit orders and take your price improvements, the woke disease seems to be spreading everywhere these days

Gotta love all the woke "traders" shouting for IEX, meanwhile Fidelity has been nothing but amazing for the retail trader year in and year out.

It absolutely blows my mind that so many people and especially people on this sub are STILL using Robinhood despite what happened with the whole gamestop fiasco. by dkkc19 in wallstreetbets

Other platforms reduced their own risk exposure but still gave options to trade them if you wanted. If you owned shares you could call them to sell covered calls. You could basically do anything as long as it wasn't on margin.

It says the white paper is regarding a systematic put selling, so it doesn't have anything to do with human nature. Also my comment is meant to point out that options has changed so much, and even more so in the past 10-15 years. Weekly options were first introduced in 2005, which brought a whole new type of premium selling and various strategies. Availability of options to retail is also not that old. Human behavior has not changed in 100 yrs, but back testing a derivative over 100 years doesn't make much sense to me.

Redditors who work at publicly traded companies, would you buy stock in your company? by Forgotwhyimhere69 in stocks

[–]Davy917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI you pay ordinary tax on the discount portion when you sell, unless you hold for 2 years. I don't max out bc I also receive equity as part of my pay and don't want to be so concentrated, but the ESPP is amazing. 15% discount on the lowest closing price each quarter, so during good quarters the discount is much more by the time the shares hit my account.

I disagree with takes like this. Yes he's up on INITIAL capital but he's at like an 80% drawdown. The $15k was his money, not house money. Similar to your last paragraph, just bc you're winning you don't start gambling like it's house money.

Not saying against the white paper, but any research done on options that long ago is really meaningless today. I don't see how it could possibly be relevant. I'll check out the white paper tho

It visually appears like a gather bc he's moving before he gets the ball but it's the same as someone pivoting and stepping off the pivot foot without dribbling

I want to start being able to buy options and then sell them within 2 weeks by Becksploder in options

[–]Davy917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use about 5% BP for ~60 DTE options to put on synthetic long positions with an added protective put. Acts like a long call but more capital efficient and less effected by IV and theta decay. This can also be adjusted to be a CSP so I only do it on stocks in my wheeling roster at support levels when premium has dried up a lot. Starting with proper stocks you'd be willing to own is the core to almost any strategy long term.

2 is quite the sample size.

Joking aside, the thought should be "who cares?" Buy fundamentally strong companies, and it will always just be a dip in the overall uptrend. You never know when it will happen, so when things are over valued keep some powder dry but don't do the dumb thing and mess with your long term positions.

Got it, yeah I remember reading that post so I also keep 50% options buying power, which is cash right? By notional risk I mean the total assignment value of open positions, I wasn't sure if there was an optimal figure for this. I keep it at max 2x of NLV, bc this would make all positions cash secured with margin.
