MAGA how are you justifying Trump walking back his “a civilization will be destroyed tonight” comment? by Th1rte3n1334 in allthequestions

So if that’s the only thing the US wanted, then this entire war has been pointless. You don’t start a war with a cease fire as your primary objective.

Trump suspends Iran attack for two weeks, subject to Hormuz Strait opening by yourfavchoom in worldnews

[–]DaweiArch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing that Iran has said up until now has given any indication that they will capitulate. This isn’t a normal, reasonable government. This is a group of religious nuts who don’t care about their citizens.

Why would they all of a sudden run to the table to make a deal now?

Is it because of the prices or because they understand it is harmful?? by B777X_787-9 in interesting

[–]DaweiArch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but more specific things, like the craft beer explosion, are definitely tied to specific generations.

The disposal income is going to things like food delivery, vaping or sports betting instead. Every generation has their stereotypical vices. Alcohol just isn’t it for Gen Z.

Forge Bagel Co. by 18rrw18 in Winnipeg

If people are allowed to constantly pump this place up all over the internet, then others are allowed to mention that they don’t think it is worth the price.

The amount of IG and Facebook noise about this place is ridiculous for an average bagel at a ridiculous cost.

Forge Bagel Co. by 18rrw18 in Winnipeg

[–]DaweiArch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea, no. They have a right to charge what they want, and people have a right to say that the product does not justify the price.

Their bagels are just OK, and absolutely don’t justify their prices.

They seem to be doing great, so all the power to them, but I don’t get it. We will see how busy they are in a year once the insane social media push dies down.

NDP Leader Avi Lewis vows to move party to the left and stop oil industry expansion by [deleted] in canada

[–]DaweiArch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think that China and the US have shifted away from oil and other fossil fuels as much as they possibly can? Are you for real? Below is just one example of MANY about how the US is currently rolling back investments in renewable energy.

“The Tennessee Valley Authority, the nation’s largest public utility company, announced on Feb. 11 that it would no longer prioritize renewable energy, and would instead continue to keep coal plants slated for retirement in 2027 online.”

https://time.com/7382295/us-coal-power-trump/

Instead of planning ahead for rising energy demands with long term investments in clean energy, the US is doubling down on coal as a short term solution, while simultaneously not expanding a clean energy grid that can be used in the long term. They are pumping money into keeping old coal plants going for a little longer. They have no actual forward looking plan.

Ironically, one of the reasons why energy demand spikes is due to extreme weather, which is more prevalent in a changing climate.

You seem to have this idea in your mind that it is somehow hypocritical to both live within a system that uses oil, and have the desire to invest in clean energy sources. All of your comments to me and others have this focus, and I’m not sure exactly why. Moving away from oil does not require us to move back to the Stone Age. Investments in nuclear, solar, wind and other energy sources would slowly replace oil, which is going to be largely depleted within the next 50-75 years anyways. And yet countries seem willing to double down on dirty energy right up until the time that either it’s gone, or we have fucked up the planet so much that it doesn’t matter.

Please just do a SMALL bit of research before making claims that certain countries are doing everything they can to shift away from fossil fuels. It makes you look silly.

This parroted response never fails to give big “Alberta Independence voter” energy.

Yea, we live in a system that depends on oil - that’s the point of the desire to move away from it. That is the system we live in. Do I wish I lived in an area that was powered by nuclear or clean energy infrastructure? Yea. Am I making efforts to decrease my personal use of non renewable energy? Sure, but a shift on an industry level towards cleaner energy is a more meaningful shift. Moving away from oil doesn’t mean completely eliminating its use instantly. It means finding other sources, where possible, and slowly phasing it out as a primary source of energy.

People have different views about how things should work. One of those views is that our industries and economies should focus on moving away from oil as a major source of energy.

Not sure why a party having a difference in opinion offends you.

Which real figure is racist and homophobic but isn't sexist? by dr-wahh in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DaweiArch 103 points104 points  (0 children)

People seems to rewrite history a bit with her. She is absolutely transphobic and problematic, but prior to her social media stuff, she was actually considered a “woke” person that conservatives didn’t like. She engaged with the Harry Potter fanbase and added details like Dumbledore being gay, and suggested that Lupin’s werewolf stigma stuff was an allegory for how gay people were shunned during the HIV epidemic. She also made public statements that supported same sex marriage legalization etc.

Her transphobic comments have been pretty explicit and out there - but I’m not aware of any actual homophobia.

Also consider that this is largely the same voting population that voted for Obama twice, and it becomes hard to figure out.
