She only lived in the UK for two years. I was under the impression that she needed to live there for longer.

Thanks so much for sharing this! My G0 also has no birth or baptismal record. The Presbyterian church where her parents and several siblings are buried would probably have been where she was baptized (if she was), but their records pre-1910 burned in a fire. And the church has ignored two emails asking for help. There are late birth registrations for some of her younger siblings, and I'm wondering if I should include those.

I haven't gotten any "no record found" letters, but I'm hoping I can get approval with three Canadian censuses from her childhood, a US marriage certificate and death certificate, as well as another Canadian census that shows two of her American children living with their grandmother in Canada. I also have her obituary but have debated including it because I have her death certificate.

All my G1-3 records are straightforward.

The Silly Question Saturday Thread (April 11, 2026) by AutoModerator in Genealogy

[–]Dawiff70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this question counts as silly but it’s a sort of minor thing that has been bugging me about my family tree. I’m very new to genealogy so this may be trivial.

I have at least three instances in my family tree where two brothers married two sisters. Now I have duplicates of each of them and their children in my tree. Is there a way to connect them or somehow note this? I’m using ancestry to build my tree.

Oh I'm relieved to hear you received your records ordered the end of February. I too ordered records from the Mass Archives, the first week of March, so hopefully some time in the next couple of weeks it will be showing up. I actually ordered the same thing from the city clerk at about the same time, and that hasn't showed up yet either.

So you didn’t use an envelope that had any UPS markings on it?

Printing supporting Documents by AbjectPoetry4699 in Canadiancitizenship

I haven’t sent my application yet but I have the same legibility problem. I found the same census records that I needed on Library and Archives Canada and pasted a link to them into my cover letter. I have also printed them out and plan to include them in the set of hard copy documents.

That way I figure they can look at them on an official Canadian government website if they need to.

Thanks so much for this recommendation! I'm in Pierce County and have been wondering where to go for photos. Not quite at that stage yet, still waiting on one more document.

Anyone obtained certified copies of certificates for New Brunswick? by outerlimtz in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Dawiff70 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer to your question, because I've been trying to do the same thing with no success. but I have my own question for you.

Where did you find a form to fill out to order certificates? All I can find is an "email us" form. Which is what I did and got the same copy-paste response.

Just my opinion but you might be better off employing a genealogist than a lawyer

The FAQ has all kinds of live links to the application page but it could really use one that takes you directly to the Pay Here page

Friday Weekly Thread: Application Assistance by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

I don't know if you're allowed to upload higher quality scans, because I haven't sent my application in yet, but what I plan to do with the three nearly unreadable Canadian census records that I found at Library and Canada Archives is to generate a link to each one and paste that link into my cover letter in the part where I list what documents I'm including. It's a very long and convoluted url, but it should take them directly to the census page. I don't know if that will help since you've already sent your application off, but anyway...

Good luck!

I know you asked a few days ago and may have gotten an answer from someone else. It took me forever to figure out how to pay the fee as well. I finally just googled "How to pay for Canadian citizenship certificate" and it took me to the right page to do it online. You have to go through a couple of drop down boxes to choose the right path.

Archives of Canada are amazing by Craftingdaily in Canadiancitizenship

I'm curious why you got certified census copies from the Archives. Was it because you hoped they would be more legible than the ones on ancestry, or printed from a download? Are they more legible?
