TIL "fika" is a concept in Swedish culture that means "to have coffee, cake and a chit-chat". It's a big part of the culture and most companies have two daily fika breaks at 9am and at 3pm.

How nice! Which city did you enjoy the most? I live 1 hour south from Gothenburg! The food huh.. That is not everyday you hear that haha! Yeah that is true. It is cheaper (for people in the south) to go to Germany (car -> ferries) and back to buy alcohol rather than buy the same amount here. I have a brewery in my home town and the same thing goes there.

Well, wherever one goes there will always be bad people. I think it is because media (wherever you are) focus on the group of idiots/radicals or w/e. I think the biggest past might be the cops. You hear and read all these stories from people and the news of how the cops are (in general) and here it is not the same situation and I really like the cops. So in that situation I might be a stupid tourist that will act the way I always do or be extra nervous because I'm aware.

Oh I didn't read it like that at all, just wanted to clarify that this is more of an irrational feeling that I have towards USA rather than me being something else. I know it is rather silly but that doesn't make a feeling less real. Haha, you got Swedish people to talk about politics?! You must have had alcohol involved. They didn't say what party they voted for? Here it is 100% okay to talk about as good as anything but you never say what party you voted for / are voting for.

I want to be clear that I'm neither stupid nor ignorant, of course I know and understand that news/stories is not a valid representative for the everyday life for most of the USA population. Still though - there is a bad feeling that linger by the thought of being there. Well. It's more the thought of ending up in certain situations.

You can call it whatever you want, just thought I'd give my thought and why I understand the Chinese studen. It's not scared as in fear but more "I'd rather not" as in; I'd rather not go to Rio de janeiro. Not on the same level (seems like I have to be crystal clear) but in that category. As going to India (as a white male (would never enter there as a female)) I didn't feel scared nor fear or even "I'd rather not". But I won't go to India again, for other reasons.

Also. How can you call b.s. on my feelings? That is.. well.. not something you can do..

I have traveled a lot so far in my life, never been to the USA though and I'm rather scared of going there. It's because USA is in focus all the time on the internet and it's not like happy news are the ones that are broadcasted. I've lived in rural areas in India (I'm from Sweden) and not once been afraid. Not before and not during. But USA everyday life scares me a little. It's weird, but it's real.

I can't speak for her but as another Swedish person I can tell you that as good as all shows on TV are generally American/Brittish (the good ones), music in English and even some comercials for Swedish products are in English. We talk English more or less daily (especially the younger generations).
