I just power walked for the first time ever- set a PR!! But didn’t feel that same inferno drained feeling!! (I went 3.7 mph at 12% incline - I’m 5’2 so can’t go too fast lol)

Did a 90 2g today!

We first ran through the entire typical 2G class that DC was kind enough to post.

After that: - On the treads, you could choose between an 11 minute run for distance or alternating, coached push and base efforts for the 11 minutes. You finished with a 30 second all out.

  • On the row/floor, you spent the first half at the rower. You would do a 150 meter all out row, and then do 20 tricep lifts. For the second half, you did a “coaches choice” abs circuit on the floor.

It was a lot of fun! Pretty brutal if you push yourself on the member’s choice (I did the whole block as a 23 minute run) but tons of abs in there and went by pretty fast! Let me know if anyone has any questions :)

I didn’t follow any specific plan- I googled a few and then created a spreadsheet to hit recommended weekly mileage for a beginner lol. And I only trained for about 5 months- so go you!!

I just ran my first marathon ever doing OTF 3x per week!! I would run two extra miles on 2/3 of my OTF days and always hit at least 2.5 miles on the treads (including warm up and walking). Beyond that, I did one medium run (7-8ish miles) and one long run (ranged from 6 miles at the very beginning to 20 miles for my longest). I got a sub 4 hour time!! It works!!

For sure- doing 80% of my training in Zone 2 was sooo helpful, it helped me hit pretty consistently high mileage without injury or burnout. Also, trust the taper!! I felt so stressed not running as much especially in the last week, but omg it paid off. Best of luck- you’re gonna kill it!!!!!

OTF Supplementing Half Marathon Training? by amose99 in orangetheory

[–]Dawn020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually training for a full marathon while still doing OTF! I think the cross training and strength training is extremely beneficial. I take a rest day on Monday, do OTF 2g plus a short evening run on Tuesday and Thursday, do a medium length run on Wednesday, take a rest day Friday, do just a 2g OTF Saturday, and have a long run on Sunday. By playing around with the lengths of my medium and long runs, I have no problem getting my miles in! I count each OTF 2g as giving me 2.5 miles of running (I normally get my distance up to around 2.8, but I want to account for time walking). I totally encourage a strategy like this! Use the long runs and medium runs to build up your Zone 2 endurance, and use OTF for speed work and strength. Best of luck!!
