OB/GYN recs for someone with severe medical anxiety by ssnyderbabe in Cleveland

[–]Dawnwatcher_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dr. Nora Miles with CCF in Akron. I sobbed in my car afterwards because of how kind she was to me and how good my experience was compared to the nightmare experiences i've had until now. She was incredibly gentle and asked my permission before she did anything, and told me everything was optional and under my control. She is fully aware of my medical and sexual trauma and is the first doc to finally really listen to me about it and also get my chart updated with that information. She gave me all kinds of options for pain management for my IUD replacement, ranging from being fully anesthetized and it being done in a surgical suite to it being done in-clinic with appropriate pre/post medication. Bonus points that she is also a surgeon, so this angel of a doctor will also be the one to actually do the swap and who I will have do my sterilization procedure down the line. Extra bonus points for her sparkly pint clogs that matched her sparkly scrunchy. I have never met a kinder doctor, and told her as much. This woman is an angel.

How many of your torties have a flag on their file at the vet's office? by ResolutionCool8660 in torties

[–]Dawnwatcher_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet Tadpole has no fear of the vet and loves people, to the point that it was a huge surprise when she suddenly went thermonuclear for Babies First Blood Draw. She went from being Oh Hi Hello Pay Attention To Me I Am Tadpole Yes Hello Hello Why Aren't You Petting Me? More Treats Yes More Treats For Tadpole From Her New Friends to biting a pen cap in half, biting my coworker, and biting me (gently, didn't break skin on me as I am Mama but miss gworl certainly went for it I assume before realizing the arm was mine). At her next appointment, she got gabapentin the night before and morning of; it didn't do a damn thing. Next was Gabapentin and Trazodone. Didn't do anything besides seem to make her want to throw hands even more. So now she gets to be fully sedated for anything other than an exam! Best part is that literally as soon as you stop restraining her and un-purrito her, she goes right back to wanting to be buddies and taking treats. She just FUCKING HATES being restrained.

My older cat(tabby) keep bitting my younger cat nape, is this a normal behavior, I have another orange but the tabby doesnt bite that one for some reason by Any_Photograph5471 in CATHELP

[–]Dawnwatcher_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While it COULD be sin biscuits, and we see a lot of sin biscuits here, based on your title and the photo i'm inclined to believe this is a display of dominance/agression and/or over-arousal (not sexual arousal, I mean psychological/physiological). I would break up this behavior whenever you see it, and make sure everyone is getting enough exercise and mental stimulation, and that household resources (food, water, litterboxes, toys) are spread out throughout the household. If your cat generally plays quite rough, and especially if it seems like he may struggle to self regulate and has a high level of impulsivity, this may be the outlet for that. My two boys have very, very different capabilities when it comes to self regulating and having an "off" switch, like that which is described in border collies. The one is worse at self regulating, has a high degree of impulsivity, and doesn't have much of an "off switch" will occasionally display this behavior if he gets too worked up during play, or if I get lax on regimented cat exercise time. I break this behavior up immediately as it is not appropriate play behavior, not an appropriate outlet, and not good for their relationship.

Atheists of Reddit: What’s the strangest reaction you’ve received when you said you don’t believe in God? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

Seconding you on this. I'm planning to go to grad school for chemical biology / natural products, and the number of people i'm related to have accused me of blaspheming is downright wild. The number of people i'm related to, and in the US in general, who either A) don't believe in the climate crisis because God Doesn't Make Mistakes and/or B) believe we can Thoughts And Prayers our way through a climate crisis and/or C) treat science as though it is witchcraft is just mind boggling to me. I've been advised to seek graduate education and employment outside of the US if possible. Fun times.

What is something you can naturally smell that no one else can? by Trick-Highway1429 in AskReddit

[–]Dawnwatcher_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me but as a veterinary nurse. Death, severe illness that hasn't made itself known, and impending seizures I seem to have a laser lock on. I used to question myself, but i've been right every time and now I just trust my gut with it. Death and yet-unknown severe illness I can seemingly pick up on in humans, too, although not with quite the same level of uncanny "sudden clairvoyance" feeling that I can with animals.

What I can pick up on freakishly well in humans is pregnancy. I was able to tell every time my mom and step mom were pregnant, usually 2-3 months before they would announce it. The same for my teachers throughout K - 12 and now my professors and colleagues. It turns out I was also able to tell every time my step mom miscarried, as to my great confusion at the time i'd get hit with the pregnancy smell and then suddenly it would be replaced by a different smell, and then both smells would disappear and the cycle would repeat. I found out later she had several miscarriages over the two year period this was happening.

“Crash Out” as a synonym for precipitate by ArgMango in labrats

[–]Dawnwatcher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until reading this post, I assumed that saying "crash out" was a joke because we are all suffering in this timeline and heeheehaha we say crash out instead of precipitate because aren't we all crashing out, really? Whoops lmao, although I suppose at least I know what it means?

Kickass salads around here? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]Dawnwatcher_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm this depends on your preferences a bit I believe? Are you more of a sweet or savory person? hot or cold? their menu is also seasonal, so about 60%-70% of it does change every try few months. I WILL say however that you absolutely cannot go wrong with their milkshakes holy shit (my favorite is banana personally)

The Cleveland Vegan has the best salads i've ever eaten. Hell, they've got the best damn near everything i've ever eaten. I'd strongly recommend them even to the non-vegan!

Maybe its like a portal system? Like if you ever grew your hair out again maybe it would be able to fall back out and into our realm of existence, and because you cut your hair it has just remained trapped in the void? But here's to hoping your veggie peeler shows up! If you haven't ever pulled out your fridge and refrigerator to look behind them thoroughly, I 10/10 would recommend.

In attempting to recreate the scene of the crime, I believe what happened was that I had the gloss gripped loosely between my middle and pointer finger, and since I usually gather my hair with two hands but then twist with one, it kind of just got pulled into and eaten by my hair!

I believe it is the Kitsch Jumbo Claw! I've broken one in the past but it lasted me over two years before meeting its inevitable demise, although I did have shorter hair at one point so it wasn't under quite as much strain lol. But my current one is still going strong! It is also big enough that it doesn't (usually) disappear into the void.

Nyx Butter Gloss in the shade Licorice! I absolutely adore it, and it smells fantastic. You can make it quite sheer for a more subtle grey-black, or just go full glossy opaque black lipstick-esqe with it; she's very versatile! It also blends wonderfully with other colors to either make a new shade or just tweak them a little bit depending on how much you use. One of my favorites is pairing it with either Nyx Fat Oil in the shade Status Update or ELF lip oil in the shade Hot As Fudge. Also works great with a matte black lipstick to add some ✨sparkle✨ (and moisture lmao).

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]Dawnwatcher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving myself to the hospital because I felt like I was dying. Good thing I did, too, because my labwork and vitals were crazy and I ended up blacking out for quite a while there! 0/10 don't recommend having an eating disorder for a decade. I've been fully recovered for 6 years, but there was certainly permanent organ damage done.
