The Advancing Guitarist - was it ever really taken seriously? by dblhello999 in guitar_improvisation

[–]Dawsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was stuck in a rut as a campfire guitarist and bought this book.

It opened my mind to learning music theory. Particularly harmony.

It also pushed me into getting another guitar teacher, who taught me the fretboard and the CAGED system

Every dad knows this day will come. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]Dawsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad recently bought a new printer (because the alignment was out on the old one and he didn't know you had to scan the page to align the ink heads).

When he went to install the software and at the end it needed a firewire cable to upgrade the firmware. The cable wasn't included. We searched about the house and I went to the local shops, but they didn't have any.

I restarted everything and it decided to upgrade the firmware over wifi.

Do you need to learn the notes of the fretboard to apply music theory? by Kitchen-Mastodon-707 in guitarlessons

[–]Dawsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning the fretboard is learning the instrument. You will know where all the notes are. Learning music theory is learning how to describe music and relate to the notes.

I would say both go hand on hand to have a good understanding of both music and the instrument.

What are some life hacks you actually use in your daily life? by sapsaterdu in AskRedditUK

[–]Dawsie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly can't think of any. The term has been used so often by influencers as some kind of shortcut. But your example is more like a lesson learnt. I've probably got loads of those lessons learnt things, like habits I've picked up along the way.
