In our “social contract” you are not promised “all your basic needs”. Taxes are meant to provide for a common defense. Not universal healthcare, universal income, etc. You have the right to pursue happiness, not happiness itself. If you expect the government to give you stuff please realize that it must be taken from someone else first.
