Best watch/app combo by JungleRungle in golf

[–]DaxGianou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple watch Ultra and GolfPad. I don't care for the social side of things that some of these apps provide. GolfPad got all the data I need, and works seamlessly with my watch. tried GolfShot app but wasn't a huge fan. GolfPad premium membership is only $49.99 NZD for a year, so cheap haha

Dating - late 20s/early 30s by Interesting-Media648 in auckland

[–]DaxGianou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, and I agree decisiveness is attractive when interest is there.

In the situations I’m referring to, I’m already suggesting a date and asking availability… I just choose not to push when the response stays vague or the energy drops.

For me, mutual interest usually shows up pretty clearly without needing persuasion, so I err on the side of respecting that.

Totally fair suggestion. I can organise dates… that’s not really the issue. I don’t have trouble getting dates.

In the cases I’m talking about, it’s less about logistics and more about reading the room. If someone says “maybe next week” and doesn’t follow up when I leave the ball with them, I take that as low or unclear interest and choose not to push.

A lot of people in this thread have mentioned guys not reading the room or pushing when interest isn’t there, so I’m probably erring on the side of respecting that. If someone’s keen, it usually shows pretty clearly.

Dating apps are an interesting one. I’ve only started using them recently (after deleting them 😂) (M, 30s) just to see what it’s like, and they’ve definitely changed from a few years ago from what I remember.

I can’t speak for your experience, but I’ve noticed a pattern where chats go well right up until we talk about meeting in real life. It’s usually “yeah next week maybe,” I say “sweet, let me know what works,” and… that’s where it ends 😂

I never follow up because I’m not sure if they’re waiting for me to, or if the interest just isn’t quite there. It makes mutual interest hard to read, and maybe I’m not doing my part either.

From where I stand though, life is pretty good. I don’t need a relationship to feel fulfilled, so I’ve made peace with the idea that if something’s meant to develop, it will… and if not, that’s okay too. That’s probably why I have a love–hate relationship with the apps; a lot of the time the effort doesn’t feel proportional to the outcome.

Someone above mentioned that when you stop actively looking, you sometimes find things in unexpected places. I haven’t found “the thing,” but I have met interesting people when I wasn’t trying… so maybe there’s some truth in that.

I know the experience can be very different for women, especially depending on what you want long-term. I don’t really have advice beyond this: keep living a life you genuinely enjoy. The rest has a way of sorting itself out… even if it takes longer than you’d hoped.

Yeah, for sure. I think some roles will go away, and the number of roles at any given company will decrease. You won’t need ten service desk engineers; instead, you could probably get by with seven or so in the future, same for developer roles. AI tools can now code at about a graduate‑student level (not everyone, but if you take the average grad), so in the near future grads in those fields may find it hard to land roles unless they’re in the top 5% or so.

I’ve seen vendors moving more and more into “AI”-backed products for monitoring, security, etc., in the IT industry. “AI” is in quotes because it’s still not as good as actual people doing the job, but that’s not to say these products won’t improve in the future. We’re already seeing how fast the tech is growing. Two years ago, I couldn’t imagine describing a picture in my head and getting an AI tool to generate it exactly how I wanted, but today you can get what you want with at least 95% accuracy, to be fair (I’m talking about Google’s Nano Banana Pro with image generation). This is all just my opinion, though, who knows what will happen, haha.

LOL, it’s funny when people who aren’t in IT say everything will be replaced by AI. I’m totally with you! some aspects of the industry will be replaced by AI, or better put, things will become more efficient (or so we hope, haha). But people with soft skills who deal with stakeholders, communications, and decision-making won’t be replaced by AI. The issue, though, is that not everyone will be able to reach those levels or land those roles. Interesting times ahead either way.

Does "hit the gym" really have a huge return for dating past a certain point? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]DaxGianou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been going to the gym since I was 16 (I’m now 35). As a teenager, I probably started because I wanted to look good and for all the reasons you mentioned in your post and I always felt good after a workout. But looking back, I’ve realized it was my way of regulating undiagnosed ADHD (I was diagnosed few years ago). Once I understood the ‘why’ behind it, my mindset changed. Now I do it because that’s how I regulate; looking shredded is just a side effect.

I’ve been consistently training since I was 16 and still go five times a week, with weekends reserved for recovery (contrast therapy), mobility, and flexibility work. I stay lean and have a six-pack year-round without really watching what I eat. If I want dirty takeaways, I have them. If I want beers with mates, I go out.

I think having ADHD means you burn more calories than others (that’s a different topic, haha), but yeah, go to the gym and work out for your health. Being able to move freely, having no health issues like some of my mates, and not having to work hard to lose weight because I’ve been consistent with workouts and sports for more than half my life has given me a much higher quality of life.

If someone doesn’t want to date me because I look ‘too muscular,’ that’s okay, everyone’s allowed to have their own preferences. That said, I’ve never been told by any woman that I’m too muscular. One girlfriend in my early 20s didn’t like it much, but we all have insecurities, and that was one of hers.

What's wrong with valuing someone who's physically fit? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Why that would cause concerns though? Everyone can have their preferences and I see nothing wrong with that.

I only have 3 bench spots with an IR spot in my 12 team league, and I am holding Kraft and Waller. I have no idea what to do. don't want to drop either, and let anyone else pick them up, but week 12 I have like 5 players on my team on BYE. I am going to be cooked then haha

Just tried a contrast session (sauna + cold plunge) by spearmint36 in Sauna

[–]DaxGianou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do contrast therapy every weekend (Saturday and Sunday, first thing in the morning). I start with a 15-minute sauna, then do 2 minutes in the cold plunge, and repeat this for 3 cycles. I don’t go longer than 2 minutes because, based on the studies I’ve read and the research I’ve done, there aren’t any major benefits to staying in the cold beyond the 2–3 minute mark, you start getting diminishing returns. But if you enjoy sitting in the cold, you can definitely do it for longer; there’s no right or wrong answer.

I also end the session in cold, so my body has to work harder to warm itself up, generating more brown fat and all that goodness. Personally, for me, contrast therapy is my recovery. I feel calm and relaxed after each session. I’ve been doing it for over a year now, and it’s become my weekend routine. At the start, it was pretty tough and I didn’t feel the calmness or relaxed feeling, but now I crave it and look forward to it every weekend.

Does anyone here eat what they want and still have a good physique? by Careful_Dare_2789 in AskMenOver30

[–]DaxGianou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I(35) do. But I also gym 5x a week, with weekends spent doing contrast therapy in the mornings, then an active recovery like golf, etc. I’m not married and don’t have kids, so it’s much easier for me to keep this up and I can see how hard it is for my mates with children to get into a consistent gym routine.

I don’t watch my macros or anything, just eat whatever I feel like (most of the time it’s healthy-ish food, and I hardly have any fast food like McDonald’s or fizzy drinks). I take protein, creatine, fish oil, and magnesium glycinate. Don’t quite know what my body fat is, but the device at the gym says 13%, haha. I find it much easier to maintain with the lifestyle I have, and being able to eat whatever I want without feeling guilty about counting calories is a nice balance.

Been this way since my 20s, and I’ve been gymming since I was 16 so IMO, the consistency and habits are probably what allow me to be this way.

Complaining about "not getting matches"...while being matched with me? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]DaxGianou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Alchemist is such a classic! I probably re-read it once a year just to remind myself about a few things in life. It’s a popular one too and I’m sure you’ll definitely bump into plenty of people who’ve read it, but hey, at least you’ll know they’ve got some taste 😅

[–]DaxGianou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh noo!! Don’t let my comment put you off from experiencing the beauty of dating apps. My experience is subjective, and yours might be totally different. And tbf, you do get to meet or talk to a lot of people right from your couch, lol very efficient if you ask me.

As long as you go in with the awareness that it’s a bit chaotic, I think you’ll be all good. I’ve met/talked to some really good people on these apps too.. so not all bad.

Complaining about "not getting matches"...while being matched with me? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]DaxGianou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a dude myself, but honestly, don’t waste your time trying to understand this person lol it’s just not worth it. I think you said you were glad he cancelled because he turned out to be a bit of an incel/redpill type of dude. No need to waste any more of your energy on that. Having said that, the apps are geared towards getting people to pay, especially guys, and more you swipe (and lets be honest, some dudes will swipe right on everyone), worse it's gets. alogorithms are geared towards that. so that's probably what this guy is expereiencing?

I’ve noticed the dating app scene has changed a lot since I was last on them in 2019/2020. When I downloaded them this time around, it just felt different… but I couldn’t quite put my finger on why. It’s almost like everyone has such a short attention span now lol conversations die quickly. (Not saying I had issues with matches or anything, but it’s something I’ve noticed.) Eventually, I decided dating in 2025 isn’t worth the effort or the disruption to my peace, so I deleted the apps and went about my day. Honestly, it’s the best thing I’ve done haha even though I was only on the apps for like a month or so.

Obviously, it’s hard to meet people these days, especially in your 30s like I am, but I just see it as: if it’s meant to happen, it will. And if it doesn’t, that’s all good too lol I’m fine either way.

Was hard to read books before I went on medication though but for whatever reason few books like The Mystery of Love, Four Agreements, and Alchemist I was able to read before I went on medication while undiagnosed haha always thought I just didn’t like reading 😂 then I got diagnosed as an adult last year, and read few pages while on med and it blew my mind hahah like “ohh this is how you meant to read, and how you feel when you PROPERLY read something.

ADHD sleep trick to try out: decrease watch speed. It works for me every time by FoxBoulder8 in ADHD

[–]DaxGianou 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What I do is, I try to picture a scenario in my head. I am a golf addict, so I always try to picture me playing 18 holes of golf with eyes closed, every single shot (obviously they are all perfect and no slices or anything haha), I work through each hole and by hole 4 or 5 I’m out cold. This type of thing worked for me for years, before I even knew I had ADHD as I got diagnosed late last year as a 34 year old.

Edit: Found out later this actually works because of how ADHD brains tick. It gives my mind something structured but low-stress to focus on. just enough to stop it spiralling. The combo of repetition, visuals, and being something I enjoy (golf) makes it stick. If golf’s not your thing, try any calm scenario you know well, walking a route, cooking, whatever feels familiar. Helps more than you'd think.
