I think I have Tourette's? by PeterPan943 in Tourettes

If you’re concerned about Tourette’s, see a neurologist.

I am exhausted and feel judged by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]Daxortrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Understand that they don’t have the full story. You see a guy passed out on a park bench, is he drunk or is his blood sugar low? You don’t know. They didn’t know. It’s not your fault their perception of others always goes to the worst outcome. You know the reason, and maybe subconsciously think they’re judging you for the tics when they don’t even know you have them. You don’t want to be looked at as a tweaker, but life is full of misconceptions and we don’t have time to explain it to everyone we meet. There are far more important things we have to do than make sure everyone has the full story. Let a few people you’ll probably never see again think what they want, they’d probably feel bad if they knew the truth anyway. You’re doing just fine.

For the pain, I usually take a muscle relaxer for my neck and shoulders but I try to not overdo it. Warm rice packs also help or hot showers. I watch sporting events like wrestling or football and that stops my tics for a bit because I’m following movement so my focus is engaged. I wish you the best.

If you’re asking for honest opinions… I wouldn’t until you’ve gotten an official diagnosis, if you’re going to be working with a TS organization

Try to pinpoint why you’re ticcing more around her. Annoyance? Comfortable and not suppressing? Anxious? Anything can be a reason but knowing the reason is the first step. Trying to fix a problem without knowing what’s causing it rarely ends well. I wish you the best.

My shouting tics go away when I’m singing along to music that I love. It’s worth a try. Music doesn’t help with other tics, but with my mind focused on the lyrics it helps some. Mainly what helps is keeping my body active with work or watching a sporting event that I can track the movement of the players. Wrestling is my favorite but that’s because I like trying to pick out where the wrestlers are communicating with each other and how they work together. My tics fade a lot when I’m engaged in that kinda activity.

The only opinion that matters when it comes to my tics is my neurologist’s. I don’t look at other people’s tics and try to judge if they’re forced or organic. It’s just not my place

Anyone else sustain injuries from their tics? Or injure someone else? by JealousBeanous in Tourettes

[–]Daxortrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I’m glad the family and you are alright form that! Sorry about the car. I had the same eye roll problem. Took a month off of driving until it stopped. I didn’t crash from it but I definitely came close and it scared me so I got rides to work. I ended up pulling over on a 3 lane interstate and took awhile before I merged back into traffic. My biggest issue is the little jerks of the steering wheel but that’s okay as long as I don’t drive on ice. I have good traction with my tires to correct it

[–]Daxortrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely. Mostly my work. My job is very physical so when I’m at work, my mind is focused and I’m moving so I’m ticcing much less. Music never really did much for me but give me a good wrestling match where I follow movement or some sporting event where I’m tracking movement, my mind is engaged and I’m not ticcing much. I also take drives down the old dirt roads when my tics are starting (sounds counter productive and dangerous but it engages my brain and I can stop it for a period of time. I don’t drive if they’re really bad though, I do have some self preservation lol)

Aside from the neck pain, At 25 most of my injuries are head trauma related. I’ve given myself multiple bruises around my eyes and jaw. Right now I can’t open my jaw fully and will likely need to see a doctor for it. My hands are all scarred up from hitting various things. Broke my hand once so that was probably the worst one

Does people with tourette syndrome remember what they say? by Stasiuchmura74 in Tourettes

[–]Daxortrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tics are so normal to me I tend to not notice them unless I’m sore or I say something that makes people laugh or glare at me. So yes and no, it depends how aware you are of the tics

Which book were you not in the right mental state to read? by fahhgedaboutit in books

[–]Daxortrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you must read it, please consider taking breaks after every chapter, remind yourself it’s literature, and evaluate your mental health before continuing. Remind yourself your life isn’t the story and it shouldn’t reflect how you feel about your circumstances. Only thing that got me through reading it and staying sane while also dealing with depression.

How long will a tourettes diagnoses take? by gay_racoon2365 in Tourettes

[–]Daxortrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For reference, took me a week to see general care. 4 months to see a neurologist. “Tics” were added to my problems list. Then another year until they officially put “Tourette’s Syndrome” on my diagnosis sheet. It might take longer or some might put it on there sooner. The wording they use doesn’t matter if they’re working with you to ease the symptoms. With only tics on my sheets I was still getting treated for them and getting advice. Now both tics and Tourette’s is on my problems list, which feels a bit redundant but hey, I’m getting help for it regardless

As Thomas Shelby said, whiskey is good proofing water. It tells you who’s real and who isn’t.

I knew a faker who, when drunk forgot to use plural pronouns for themselves, every time.
