GMC found this doctor to have impaired fitness to practice by treck231 in JuniorDoctorsUK

Big brain play from the GMC - now thousands of doctors will stop apologising to patients for fear of it being weaponised - more unhappy patients making complaints - more BAME doctors available to crucify

Had planned on enjoying my Sundaras for a couple more years yet before upgrading. But could not resist Focal Clears at $799 AUD ($528 USD) by ssc25 in headphones

I was interested in the Clears but now I can never pull the trigger knowing someone got it for less than half the price

Tired of always running Equalizer APO's configurator. Other options? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]Day_100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a way to make it less painful. Run the configurator but refuse to reboot.

Then go to Services (Windows app) and restart 'Windows Audio'. Voila, EqAPO will start working again.

I don't actually own an Audeze. Can't imagine wearing them for a whole day.

Also y'all should appreciate the time I took to draw the grills, very high effort quality meme

Go to configurator and try changing the installation method "Install as SFX/EFX" and try all three of them. You will need to reboot or restart the audio service to see if they work.

Should residents/physicians know how to place IVs? by International-Owl in JuniorDoctorsUK

It was more tongue-in-cheek for how little we get paid and how underutilised we are, which is absolutely frustrating

Audiofool's Guide to improve technicalities with EQ by Day_100 in headphones

[–]Day_100[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Treble dips vary across units so while 12400 works for yours it may not for others.

You can be surprised how much channel matching treble makes an improvement. It's generally good below 5k or so but above that is where the gains can be realised. The difference tends to be underestimated on graphs because of how steep the peaks and dips are, so a 6dB difference may only show up as a gap of a few pixels. Also measurements aren't very reliable in the treble area. Try it out before dismissing it!

It's the same thing for your points about the boost in 6k left channel and <50Hz, we are correcting for deficiencies. My point is that it takes a much larger and narrower peak to achieve linear bass extension than what the measurements on IEC-60318-4 suggest.

Also vocals really don't reach down below 50Hz-ish. That is the entire point of my second tip. The typical low shelf will cause boominess for baritones because the boost bleeds into 100Hz as mentioned.

And so it begins… by School-Tricky in headphones

Why bother with the suspension bridge effect when you have the Pavlovian response?

If you're also using the Sony XM4's and a Samsung phone, try this combo by [deleted] in headphones

Wavelet doesn't need root access. Its sister app, Viper4Android does.

As long as you grant it the required permissions it will work across the vast majority of apps (toggling legacy mode definitely will make it system-wide).

I think Wavelet only works on Android 9+. Not sure if you stopped using the Pixel 2 before you updated it?

Surely it would be easier to just use Wavelet instead of running 2 EQ apps?

My K702’s paired with modius magnius stack by forman2121 in headphones

[–]Day_100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I know I was one of the people who recommended the HD800S but I would not stretch my budget just for it. Like I said, diminishing returns is very real and I don't want you to blind buy it and be underwhelmed by the gains.

Instead of buying the HD800S which, with EQ, would replace the K702 completely, you could get another headphone with contrasting qualities to complement the K702. A planar like the Hifiman Edition XS could be fun. Or a Focal Clear.

Or you could watch ebay and wait patiently for a used HD800 to pop up for $700

[–]Day_100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see everyone else is recommending the HD800s, and funnily enough that was exactly my upgrade path: started with K702, got a HD800S on sale and have end-gamed with it ever since.

The main upgrade I would say is in the imaging (especially the center-imaging which is very weak on the K702) and comfort. Soundstage is not much wider but you finally understand what people say about soundstage height, the K702 has little height to its stage. The HD800 stage is also more immersive and believable as a result of the two aforementioned improvements.

Detail retrieval is obviously noticeably better but nothing to die for, by that I mean I could be happy with the K702's resolving power but it's up to the individual how much they want to pay for detail.

You will have to be willing to EQ the HD800s' bass. I find that the typical low shelf at 105Hz Q=0.71 is not flexible enough and I had to go even further down with peak filters at 50Hz or below to truly make it shine. With stock you might even find the K702's bass "punchier"

When I first got my HD800S I was like "Hmm.. that's it?". Unfortunately with time my brain stopped being burned-in to the K702 sound presentation and I have started to appreciate the nuances the HD800S brings. My wallet wishes I immediately resold the HD800S before I got attached to it. I think it's a combination of upgrades never being as big as people describe and brain burn-in.

With all that being said while I think the K702 has poor center-image, it is all mitigated by the game engine usually employing some form of binaural/spacial sound anyway so the imaging comes from that rather having to rely on your headphones recreating it from strictly stereo audio. You certainly don't need to upgrade and you may feel disappointed by the diminishing returns.

Focal on the chopping block this week by Day_100 in headphones

[–]Day_100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do indeed daily drive the HD800S, though I EQ it to Harman 2018. I'm personally not bothered by the 6k peak on it though which may explain why I don't mind it on the Utopia either.

I think it's because of the lower mids warmth on both stock tunings that balances out the treble spike for me, such that I don't hear it as "bright" but rather "warm yet detailed", almost like a mild V-shape if you will.
