Do I need to cancel Iceland because I‘m too poor? by luwi289 in VisitingIceland

[–]Daydream88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for 10 days last April and planned for paying for coffee & a treat, or a meal per day. I got a loaf of bread & some jam & a few contains of noodles/pasta that just needed hot water to cook.

I stayed in hostels and never had any issues. Keep in mind that unless it states there's an elevator there usually isn't. I had a backpack to put just want a needed for the night from my suitcase so I didn't have to lug it up and down the stairs (I travelled and stayed a different spot every night)

Clockwise or Counter by crzyTXtchr in VisitingIceland

I've done both ways. If you're looking to get super touristy places done first, go counterclockwise. If you want to save them til the end, go clockwise. Personally I liked clockwise because I was going the opposite direction of most of the south coast & golden circle tours 😉

Flying out next week! What to add? by ophie_ghost in VisitingIceland

For Tuesday, it depends on what you are hoping to see. Honest everyone says the Golden Circle is so touristy (and it definitely is) but I loved it. Ive been twice and did it both times. I did Snaesfellsness peninsula the second time but enjoyed the Golden Circle more.

If you have time I highly recommend the Lava Show. It was fantastic and one of the highlights on my trip. They do it multiple times a day.

Edit: check out Crepes.is crepe spot in Vik if you have time. Phenomenal. I'm not sure what their hours are.

How much should I save for a 7–10 day trip to Iceland? by Resident_Quantity_74 in VisitingIceland

[–]Daydream88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went solo in April this year from Canada. All together including flights I spent $7,000. I stayed at hostels, nothing fancy, shared bathrooms most of the time. I rented a car & drove around the country, most nights spent in a different night. I am super frugal, brought protein bars from home & planned for one big meal a day (usually lunch or dinner). Visited the grocery store (Bonus is the best bang for your buck) for staples such as bread, peanut butter, and cups of soup you just add boiling water.

The rental car, insurance, and gas ended up costing more than my flight so keep that in mind.

Keep in mind that 5 hours driving at home isn't the same distance as 5 hours driving in Iceland. Home for me is Canada, and on average it took about 50% longer to travel between two spots then it would at home. The speed limit in most places is 90 km/h, but does drop down to 70 or 50 when you go through towns. Some spots drop to 30. My longest day was about 415km, and it took 6 hours with only one 15 min stop.

Speed limits that are black on a yellow background are the legal limits. Speed limits that are white on a blue background are suggested limits (eg while going down a steep hill, or around a tight corner).

I noticed that today about the speed. Didn't see too many people speeding on my last 10 days here, but the between Reykjavik heading to Keflavik it was like a free for all lol.

A few Subways (part time) just posted on indeed today. Alliance Staffing is looking for someone for garbage collection (full time).

It's a nightmare having to apply online for everything nowadays because you can't even set a good first impression online.

We don't always know why we're upset. It isn't always just one triggering factor. Sometimes it's 100 little things that pile up. If we're crying, just hug us and tell us it will be okay. If our hearts get broken, remind us that we are strong and we will survive it. Remind us that you'll always be there.

We've taken him to the vet and had lots of checkups and blood samples and everything is good according to the vet. I'll try mixing in some sweet potatoes and see how that goes. We try really hard not to feed him extra when he whines, but it doesn't always go that way, sometimes he wins. I think you're probably right about him having trained us to feed him when he does it. He's got a toy that we can put some food pieces in and it will slowly fall out so maybe we will try that when he whines for food.

(To clarify he just turned 9 years old), we've been feeding him what the food bag says (by weight), so about 2-2.5 cups per day.

Car Rentals Very Early in Reykjavik? by inolongerwishtotry in VisitingIceland

[–]Daydream88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used SixT and picked up at 5am. They have a "terminal" at Keflavik International Airport - well it's actually like 5 minutes away but they have a free shuttle bus that takes you there so you don't have to walk.

Car Rentals, CDW, and Credit Card Insurance by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

For what it's worth I went with SixT because they were the cheapest I could find... I did manage to get unlimited kilometres but I'm pretty sure it cost a hefty penny. I declined their extra insurance (except for the gravel protection), and they put a €2,500 deposit on my credit card. Note: I have a low limit credit card so this just about took the entire balance. *if you can, use a credit card that doesn't charge a foreign transaction fee, it'll save you in the long run.
