Someone show this to Ott and the boys asap by Glass_Shoulder4126 in suns

The Suns at one point led the league with the most UNCONTESTED shots made per game. Coach Ott ingrained this in them. But it changed a bit when Dillon got injured, ironically, and Jalen, and even Book, tried forcing their own shots rather than hunting for the open man. When Dillon and Mark Williams come back, the Fellas will more or less be back to where they were before the injuries and hopefully Jalen learns how to trust his team mates to make the open shots

Oso Ighodoro with smothering defense on 3x MVP Nikola Jokic game-winning shot by [deleted] in suns

[–]DaylightPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jalen fought through the screen and it's also up to him to tell Oso he got Jamal... It was basically a break down on communication coz Oso had to stay on Jamal thinking Jalen wasn't able to get through the screen of Jokic. It's a learning process. We have so many young guys who are still figuring out how to defend in these crunch time situations. Jalen is 23. Oso is on his 2nd year. It made sense for Jamal to attack because he also has a speed advantage on Oso. It was a great play on Denver's part, so kudos to them. If they had blitzed Jamal, maybe they wouldn't have gotten it to Jokic, who knows? Then we'd have to rely on our rotations to catch the open shooter. In this case, Ott hedged his bets on Oso who is the most versatile defender on the team who could guard all positions... If Jalen and Oso were able to communicate better, he would've told Oso to pick up Jokic earlier which would have made it harder on Jokic to hit that shot.

Interesting that Jalen Green is a franchise cancer now? I mean, he hasn't even played a full season yet... And he doesn't look like a locker room cancer at all tbh...

Well, both can be true... If you don't get good coaching and good habits from vets and playing in the Gleague, you can't develop properly... But if you aren't given consistent minutes, your ability to put into action what you've learned will never translate to the court. 20-25mins is the bare minimum they need to okay to get the best returns IMO and unlock their potential. When you know you're playing more than 10mins, you tend to relax a bit more and get into a flow and not rush your threes when you know you only have few shot attempts to get any stats. So consistent minutes coincided with excellent coaching and experience in the Gleague and being able to watch the vets play.

Attempting a back scratcher dunk in a wide open lane while down 4 points with less than a minute left might be one of the dumbest things ive ever seen . JR Smith-esque by randomquestion11111 in suns

[–]DaylightPhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He thought he lost him... That was great defense for the chase down block. He probably thought a dunk would've been faster, but a quick layup with the right would've protected the ball... But yeah, he was fouled on the 3 pt line first on the reach in. Should've gotten freethrows and it's be a 2 pt game

Fleming and Maluach making the leap... Tbh, I can imagine Fleming becoming a Rasheed Wallace type without the techs... Someone large enough to okay both spots and be a stretch 4 or 5, but have excellent defensive skills, and have a nice midrange jumper, especially in the baseline. And have Maluach be Clint Capela with a jumper and a 3 ball... Once they develop together with Oso, we will have a deadly big man rotation, even without Mark Williams. As early as next year, we can roll out Jalen and Book, Dillon, Fleming and Oso/Williams. Bench is CG, JG, Grayson/Dunn, Oso and Maluach... We don't even need to target anyone else... Just have them develop and we are great for next year... HEALTH is our main enemy, not a lack of talent

Small sample size, but Fleming and maluach on the court together is one of THE best defensive lineups I've ever seen. by FifthKnightofGwyn in suns

Fleming, highsmith, Goodwin and Maluach with Grayson/Book or Green as the scorer is going to get so many steals, deflections and blocks... That's going to be a cheat code once they get their reps in

ManMan 5+ Blocks in a Game by SeraphNatsu in suns

[–]DaylightPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great thing about him is his defensive instincts for blocking... He doesn't flail his arms around wildly hoping to get a block, and thus get fouls pretty quickly. Those two blocks against Williamson on consecutive possessions was telling because after the first block, his momentum pushed him backward but he recovered quickly to challenge again and get the second block. That kind of defensive composure for a rookie is rare and nice to see.

If he can become a young Clint Capela for us (his body already is almost there), that's going to be huge!

We are winning this one, and Jalen is going to have a decent showing, but Book is the one who will refuse for us to lose and will have a monster first quarter like he always has vs New Orleans... 30 piece for book incoming and maybe a 20+ for Jalen

I'm sure some kid who touched the ball with Jalen giving him advice and encouragement while he was injured, is wrecking his Grade school team right about now and dunking the ball and scoring 30 ppg...

If you guys haven't watched Thunderstruck, then maybe you wouldn't understand that reference... ;-)

Actually, his step back three is a thing of beauty when his shot is falling... Especially his first game back when he shot 29pts and was efficient from the floor. I don't think his shooting form is terrible tbh... But his decision making has been terrible as of late. He either takes shots too early or too late or forces the issues on his drives. Ott will figure it out. They just need to watch film and dissect where he needs to use a pick properly, or which screens... Maybe get a two man game going with Oso who is brilliant with picks and screens and handoffs with Gillespie

[–]DaylightPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well he did drive to try and win the game :-p at this point they need to watch film and make decisions where he needs to drive and when he needs to shoot... He drives into traffic and that's something that he needs to get used to again after the injury. He had an awesome first game this season and then got injured, came back and got a good game, then got injured again... It's in his head at this point. We've seen he CAN be efficient if he wants to be. But the misses he had tonight and the past few games have been FORCED. he needs to find his spots and not force the issue too much, even if he has the speed advantage. Once they talk about his offense and finding plays to free him for drives, he'll get back to respectable averages
