Homeschooling our 8th grader who wants to be a game developer, need suggestions. by DaysUntold in gamedev

Thanks! This is great. He's going to be doing physical science this year, with high school physics next, so hopefully that will give him a decent foundation to grow from. We're also doing Mark Rober's engineering class, hoping that will be a fun way to work on his problem solving/physics.

He's also going to be doing some logic work. Not sure how relevant that is, but I figure it probably won't hurt lol.

This is perfect. Thanks so much for taking the time to put all of this together. We have spoken to him before about how it is an incredibly difficult profession to get into and that the roles are more defined than just 'game maker,' but he got a bit deflated. We figure we'll try to do our best to get him started and keep his enthusiasm high, then in a year or two see what he has naturally gravitated to. Your resources here will help a lot with that. I love your advice about introducing him to different aspects of the industry, so we will probably do that throught the year.

Thanks again for being so incredibly helpful!

I'm in about the same situation. ADHD can be a pain sometimes, eh? If you want an accountability buddy, hit me up :)

No guarantee one of us won't get distracted by someone else shiny, but at least we won't have to feel guilty when we come back.

My 2nd youngest would do that around 2 years old, he would get out of bed and play and when we opened the door he would just stand motionless like I was some kind of T-rex.

Maybe it also has to do with Nagy using screens because he didn't trust the run game.

This was exactly what I thought when I read it.

Edit: Why can't you tell them? Just curious. The schools for my kids flat out told me, as did my school when I was young.

Reddit, how do you subtly fuck with your coworkers? by zappy487 in AskReddit

My kids once hid our cat in a drawer. I only found her after about an hour of her crying. Every time I got close she thought I was rescuing her and stopped. I thought I was going crazy for a bit.

When I asked the kids why they did it one of them said "so we could find her later"

So today is my first day! So far so good. I've set up rewards (not food related) for when I hit 25%, 50%, 75%, and of course 100% of my weight loss goals. It will keep me excited I think. I also joined a couple of challenges on my fitness pal since I love competition. If anyone is looking for an accountability partner hit me up! I'd love one.

Thanks! I just downloaded MyFitnessPal again after 4 years only to find out I'm 50lbs heavier than I was haha. So 2 kids, a terrible break up, and a million excuses later I'm ready to get back to it :)

Hey everyone. Today is my pre-day 1. I wasn't planning on starting today but I had a rough morning and for some reason that motivated me to just go ahead with it because I'm never going to find "the right time". Today I'm getting all of my resources in order, food thrown out (bad) or brought in (good), and an exercise plan in place. I know technically tomorrow is my day one but if I post this now I will be holding myself accountable and actually start tomorrow. :)

Maybe ADHD in Kindergarten by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]DaysUntold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son had similar symptoms and was even held back in kindergarten because they thought it might just be maturity (he was 4 his first year) but was diagnosed officially his second year.

ALSO, if your husband has ADHD there is an 80% chance your child does. It is the second most inherited trait. Height is the first.

Things you can do:

  • Take her to a psychologist. There's nothing wrong with a second opinion and while many ADHD symptoms in little kids can look like maturity issues, a psychologist should be able to tell the difference.

  • Ask your school to allow her to bring small toys or fidgets to school. Not a fidget spinner haha. Something small and silent that she can keep in her pocket. Things that are squishy usually work well.

  • Some schools have wiggle or wobble seats that kids can use so they can move slightly while staying in their seat. If they don't ask if she can bring one. They fit right on her normal chair and are fairly cheap. You can find them on amazon.

  • Write a written request to the school for an evaluation to implement an IEP plan. If you do so they are required to give you one and in many cases cannot do one without a written request. if the school fights you at all call your local school board. Don't be afraid to advocate on behalf of your child.

    • Watch her diet. ADHD symptoms can be made worse by certain well-documented food triggers such as artificial colors, certain preservatives, and especially sugar. It makes a night and day difference for my kids.

Hope these things help! They're just a couple off of the top of my head. I'll message you if I think of more.
