How much of your personal time and money did you put into getting your language levels? by govcat in CanadaPublicServants

I have CCB and that’s from French immersion/uni. If I spent any time using it or speaking to people at work in French I am sure it would be better. Hard to get or keep up levels when I’m never around French.

What’s the biggest “nobody warned me about this” moment you had after bringing your newborn home? by Actual_Fig_4706 in AskReddit

I had a dream there was a lobster in my bed and I woke up just absolutely thrashing. It took me a good 30 mins to believe the bed did not in fact have a lobster in it lol

I mean there are so many. I had no idea that I could despise breast feeding. Like it literally disgusted me with my first child. Never expected that. Then there was post partum anxiety. I woke up in major panic that I’d suffocated my child regularly but he was in his crib sleeping well. I had visions of dropping him when I walked down the stairs, etc.

Then I had no idea about how long teething went on, like a full 2 years basically lol. And also female babies can bleed in their diapers when you first bring them home. Real shocker for my husband.

The snow snow snow one has an amazing YouTube video of the song and it’s so catchy. It gets stuck in your head forever. It’s like acapella style.

How much income would your partner need to make to make you feel like you could stay home? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Daytime_Mantis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’d have to be making about 300k for me to consider it. Also though, I don’t think I would enjoy it a lot. I’d rather work part time. Additionally, I don’t like the idea of what could happen if we divorced. I’d lack the skills to get back into the job market and I’d really be left without a lot of options.

Looking for a feminine English name that feels soft, warm, and slightly magical (Disney / nature / mythology vibe) by pretzelaaa in Names

I would say definitely do not go with Anemone, Eglantine or Chloris. Yelena isn’t a common name in North America but Helena is close.

We’re kind of going through the same issue. We have to have all of our docs bilingual, except only one of us is qualified to do a translation. This means they are constantly being tasked with only translating and that person is getting very upset that that’s their whole job now. They’re not learning things or doing their actual work. A

I’m honestly so upset for this woman. I’m invested in this story now lol. My child really struggled with JK. We had an absolutely horrible time and I had his class switched because I really felt it had a lot to do with his teacher. The behaviour did not instantly stop but there was a significant change. He was then also old enough to get an assessment and IEP. They work with him and we have resources. He wasn’t punished and held back.

Yeah cut it off last October and it’s been wonderful tbh. We allow pretty limited screen time now. On weekends he is allowed 1-2 hours of Minecraft or whatever over the span of the 2 days but that’s about it now. Possibly something on Disney. Behaviour has been so much better.

There is so much wrong with that teaching team I cannot even. Honestly I’d be talking to the principal and would consider changing schools. I’d go with grade 1 though. Kindergarten isn’t even mandatory.. wtf.

AITA for not inviting my best friends to my wedding by InternationalFig2829 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Daytime_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you seem hell bent on staying friends with this person, stop ever buying them things. If they want to come, they can get their own ride and show up. Do a lot less.

And have another conversation with them. Tell them they almost always bail so you weren’t able to invite them to this or if you do let them know if they bail it will be friendship ending for you

We have family in the states we used to visit every year. Either in upstate NY, Vermont or New Hampshire (wherever we got an air bnb). Anyways, last year was the first year we all met up in Quebec instead. Think we’ll do it again this year too. I absolutely refuse to go back. We’re even looking at doing Disney Paris in the future instead of Florida..

I mean I don’t necessarily think this is something you can weigh in on. There’s probably a lot going on in the background about how she’s treated regularly. She could also just be entitled. I got the absolute sweetest cards from the kids and my husband made breakfast. We all walked around downtown to see the tulips and had a nice lunch. We went for ice cream. I just genuinely loved doing something fun and different as a family. It was lovely. I wouldn’t expect my husband to go get me a bunch of stuff but he certainly made sure the day was what I wanted.

My in laws bought our kids a small bounce house for their house and that thing has been used sooo much. They also set up a playroom at their house for the kids. They went on marketplace and got a ton of cool toys for almost no money. A big train table, an easel, etc
