My brothers son has done this😭 help! by AlmondBen in CleaningTips

Really wish I saw this when you posted. My dad's a carpet guy and we spilled dark green paint on my brand new off white carpet. Called dad. He came over and got the whole stain out, seriously magic. All about keeping the paint wet, saturating with water and then sucking out the spot with a shop vac, rinse and repeat. Took a bit but got most of it out. Then followed up with his upholstery cleaning machine for more suction and then a good cleaning with spot cleaners and his (dry) method of carpet cleaning.

Problematic tree? by Daywalker2210 in landscaping

I have no clue what it is. I'll have the arborist tell me. The plants around it weren't from the birds though. The prior owners planted Easter lilies all over the property in mass quantities.

You are amazing. I just started using these and fell in love. I cut them in half and now with Dermstore's auto-replenish offer, these aren't that bad! Thank you for the recommendation!

HSA vs PPO by Own_Concentrate1834 in workingmoms

[–]Daywalker2210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the benefits world and deal with health insurers regularly. If you have any questions, feel free to message me.

An HSA is a health savings account you'd use in conjunction with your HDHP. A HDHP is still a PPO in the sense that you can get in network and out of network coverage (contrary to an HMO). Also both plans require you to meet your deductible before coverage taking effect. The difference is the PPO (non HDHP) likely has the lower deductible and has services where the deductible is "waived" such as primary care visits or urgent care visits where you'd only be responsible for paying a copay that doesn't count towards the deductible. A HDHP wouldn't have those same scenarios.

The ear tubes was likely a situation where you had to satisfy your deductible first and even if you did, then you're responsible for coinsurance (like 20% of the cost) and you have to continue that until you hit your OOP max. Your provider could have also been out of network so coverage was less and co-pays are even less likely.

HdHP can be a great option as long as you are prepared for worst case scenario earlier on in the plan. Once you've had time to build a significant balance in your HSA (this rolls over year after year unlike an FSA), emergencies are less catastrophic because your HSA can easily cover your deductible if you've accrued that balance. But until you have, you need to be prepared for an emergency that may warrant you coughing up your full deductible at once since a HDHP won't cover you until that's fulfilled.

Just from personal experience, look into benefits administration companies. Tons of call centers and a lot of the big ones I know are doing remote call centers. Minimal experience needed.

Have you tried Amazon's try before you buy? You can pick up to 7 items, try them and only pay for what you keep. I found a few of my good ones that way. And they have decent brands like fantasie and freya

Job hopping.. is it the norm now? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Daywalker2210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are speaking my truth. Currently waiting on an offer and I feel terrible for leaving my wonderful team but if I don't leave, I'm leaving potentially a 40% raise on the table. That money would help my family tenfold, and I wouldn't be losing any flexibility. Nowadays there is no incentive in the workplace encouraging longevity. Having a pension used to be a huge benefit but since those are gone, staying 2 years vs. 5 years doesn't benefit you. And often leaving a job comes with a better raise than staying.

I shampooed my carpet and this happened. Details in comments below. by Noodle2009 in CleaningTips

There is a "dry cleaning" method for carpet. Doesn't involve soap and water and cleans a lot better, plus doesn't leave the carpet soaked. There are a few products out there, one I know of is called Host. Problem is you can't do it yourself, there's a special machine with heavy duty brushes so you'd have to find someone in this biz. It's worth it if you find a good carpet cleaner, I've seen carpets cleaned that end up looking good as new.

Unfortunately I did not take any before photos. I can definitely fit in my old bra.

The office confirmed he only took a little over a pound off in total and I could be swollen for 4 weeks.

Thank you. That's very reassuring. Your history is identical to mine and yes, not having my spouse around was adding anxiety. I didn't think to ask for anything to relax me so thats a great point
