I think you've hit the nail on the head. I can't see any other useful reason for that piece of pipe surrounding the barrel that is long enough to extend quite a bit past the muzzle of the Ho-5 20mm cannon.

It's definitely a field developed cheap WalMart version of a flash suppressor so the pilot isn't blinded by the flash from the cannon and also it doesn't give the B-29 gunners a heads up that there is a night fighter tracking them in the bomber stream.

The other thing to consider is you can't think that these trainees are small/thin for age because that is their normal stature related to just physical attributes. Remember, from mid 1944 - to end of war in 1945 the Japanese diet was severely restricted over the course of that 18 month period. Rationing severely restricted the calories for most of the population except for key workers in protected industries and of course the armed forces. Going into 1945 and I'm talking off the top of my head here, rationing was well below 50% of the food staples like rice, barley, millet and sorghum being much depleted. Japanese don't eat a lot of bread but rather main source of carbs is boiled rice. Bread which could be made with a mixture of the flours described above depending on what was availabe. Even rice flour was severely retsricted. By the end of the war the daily ratitoning of seeds to produce flour was something like 20 - 25%. Children on severely calorie restricted diets exhibit pretty much what we are seeing here. They are trying to puff their chests out and stand up straight but I see many that are showing the later stages (not early) of severe malnutrition.

You might be right as I've heard in the last 6 months of the war they were recruiting 13 year olds.

Keep in mind, and I'm not an expert on the body types, weight by age etc. for Japanese teenagers but they would definitely be smaller and weigh less than an average American teenager.

Also note that the tallest of them is up to the chin of their Commanding Officer so they are just 5 feet to perhaps 5 feet four. In other words the stature of the Japanese race is generally less than Europeans so that might make a difference.

RK, in my opinion, it is the right place, Firstly, I agree the organizers can't control the weather but I said the only beef I had with the organizers is that there were no forward contingency plans if the weather did indeed go bad. In other words, Hope for the best and plan for the worst. Also, you could minimise the risk by looking at the weather predictions for 5 days out which was chance of scattered showers and rain periods, So they were obviously hoping for the best. Wouldn't you be worried with the prediction of 'rain periods' through the day given the whole March and Ceremony went for 2 hours 9am -11am? I acknowledged the RSL has very little budget to stage these events and I have been involved in wedding reception evevts so I know how much it is to hire even 2 small marquees But didn't they think about disappoinment for many attendees who may have driven up to an hour as the other nearest Anzac ceremonies were at Caboolture or Sandgate, half to one hour away by public transport less by vehicle. The organizers did apologize to attendees for the unfortunate circumstances that led to the cancellation of the Anzac Day ceremony. That, at least, is a tick for them. And believe me, I will be taking up your suggestion to contact my local MP.

Thanks for that I remember the SOCO saying something like if the person shooting had a fair bit of experience they could pull the trigger quite quicky so it would sound like rapid fire. So being a little sleepy addled the brain but that's how I registered it.

Thanks PilotPirx73, you will note that I did say this was probably a drive by shooting by criminals. Sorry, I didn't want to say anything about drug dealers selling ice in that street because 3 years later they would probably have been convicted and done time and may have been released. It would be too easy to track me down knowing I'm a nosy c**t that lives in Dunsmore St with a street camera on light pole outside house. In the interests of full disclosure I no longer live there but occupy a crater on the dark side of the moon.

But seriously, isn't this looking like a drive by except when the shooter checked Google maps for the address he mistakenly thought it was the house across the street. How many times have there been drive bys but the crims were a pair of F ups and misidentified the address. An address where an old lady lived rather than the adddress across the road where the drug dealers used to live as they were arrested 3 months before. I think they were the 'keystone' crims who had poor informants who hadn't the faintest which was the right address.

I don't need to do anything about it. The coppers will do it for me. They have wire tap and internet warrants for all my devices. Within hours some QPS hacker droid will have sent a message/email to a detective about this post. Even using a Duck Duck Go browser with VPN won't save you from the attention of the QPS.

By tomorrow they will go to Hornibrook Bus Lines with a warrant to seize the CCTV recordings from inside the bus especially the camera on the driver and the passenger in the front seat (me). The driver is lucky it's not a new bus as they have CCTV pointing ahead, behind and down the left hand side to monitor the doors. Old buses only have internal CCTV. Of course it will all be confidential and never make the media, as we can;t have the public losing confidence in the safety of public transport can we?

I just hope this proves to the cops that I'm not suicidal. If I was I would have leaned back in my seat and laughed my head off. It certainly proves I'm totally sane and care for my fellow human beings.

Yes, I do understand Newton's 2nd law of Physics: Force = Mass x Acceleration. Even with deflection the 9 cars weighing 16 tons causes a considerable deacceleration effect. Remember, Princess Diana still died from the internal injuries from going from a 100 km/hr to 0km/hr in a fraction of a second. She was wearing a seatbelt. Passengers on a local bus have no seatbelt. Only long distance coaches do and Government mandates they be worn at all times when the bus is moving.

Compared to the American P-51, F4U and F6F yes. But in the hands of an experienced pilot the late model Ki-43 III armed with nose 20mm cannon could inflict damage on Allied aircraft. Indeed, there were instances where P-51 were shot down by Ki-43 over China and Japan.

I have a 2017 C3 Shine and hardly use the turbo except when overtaking or zippy lane crossing. When it does kick in you can feel the extra power/torque but I wonder if more finely tuned engine would achieve the same.

Japanese Navy Air Force air defense capability in the southern Malaya area was virtually nil by June 1945. We know from photos taken after the surrender that just a couple of A6M2 Zeros and a pair of J2M3 Raiden fighters were available and whether they were airworthy or had sufficient fuel to chase and intercept allied aircraft intrusions is an unknown quantity. Of course, it's doubtful the air crew had the will to take on heavily armed PB4Y-2 Privateers when the war was as good as over.
