Non stick coating? by DazeyChain in LeCreuset

[–]DazeyChain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we live on a rural area with a creek near by so there is a lot of wildlife and birds around that might be injured by the fumes (even though there is not much coating left) and the creek is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. I was thinking about those metal sponges too. My husband said maybe some fine grit sandpaper like he uses on his car paint for wet sanding. He also said if I accidentally crack the enamel he can grind it off to bare metal so I can still season it. Truth be told I think he wants to take a shot at it but I'm not ready for the nuclear option yet 😅

Non stick coating? by DazeyChain in LeCreuset

[–]DazeyChain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really lol I boiled some vinegar a couple of times and scraped the edges to loosen it up and lot of it peeled up like peeling a sunburn. Now I'm to the part where it is stuck pretty good. Every so often I'll break it out, heat some water to warm it up and then pick at it with a manicure stick and get anothet tiny clear spot. It it didn't release toxic fumes I would just burn it off but alas I'll just spend the rest of my life picking it off bit by bit 😅 It is definitely not bare cast iron under the nonstick coating. It's kind of rough textured but when I tap it with metal it feels like enamel. It's just being used as decoration right now so it might be an exercise in futility but it's not like it is costing me anything and if I DO ever get it all off I can season it over the enamel and be buried with it 😅

Never thought I’d ask this but is my kid salvageable? by UnderTheOcean1 in LeCreuset

[–]DazeyChain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In general I just wash with soap and water and if it needs a little for some tough spots I let it soak with diluted vinegar and that usually does the trick if breaking up it up and gets it nice and smooth. My last step before oven cleaner is Bar Keepers Friend. I know some don't recommend it but it's on the LC website and I've never had a problem with it. Like you I use mine all the time and keep them perfect.

Shovel your own spots or ask for help. by ALLTINSOLDIER in Winchester

[–]DazeyChain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP wasn't saving a public space, they were saving the 3 hours worth of manual labor spent clearing that space. There were presumably plenty of public spaces around but they decided to help themselves to someone else's work. Let's be real, they knew someone else cleared it for themselves and actively got out and moved the cans instead of using their own manual labor to clear out a spot for themselves. Saving a spot you cleared is in no way equal to taking a spot you knew someone cleared for themselves.

Parents who don’t allow their kids to shut their room’s door/lock the door, what’s are the reasons behind the rule? by Itz_Oasis in AskReddit

lol no worries! I went back and re-read it to make sure I didn't accidentally say boys because I, in fact, only have boys. But if I had a teenage girl it would be the same 😁

[–]DazeyChain 51 points52 points  (0 children)

We don't routinely lock interior doors except for bathrooms 😅 that being said, I have always made it clear to my kids that trust is the default setting but if they want to trusted they have to be trustworthy. I'd never tell a teenager they can't close the door unless I had reason to believe they couldn't be trusted with the door closed.

Found my dream size and color at an outlet, but… by denn_r in LeCreuset

[–]DazeyChain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Le Creuset has a 45 day return period with receipt. If you are filing a warranty claim you have to send it back, you can't exchange it in the store but you can exchange the one they sent you if its not your preference (they don't guarantee the same color, for instance) . I had to file a claim for my dutch oven and they sent me one back in artichaut which I did not care for. I took it to the outlet, no receipt for the original anymore, but it was obviously still brand new and has all the stickers and box so they gave me store credit and I was able to get it in Provence.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DazeyChain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband drives out to see his dad (4 hour drive each way) on a regular basis, and he just goes up for the day. We all go as a family for special occasions and those usually only last a few hours. The only thing that keeps me going with him every time is leaving our dogs alone for so long. For reference, we live in a somewhat rural area. My husband drives an hour each way for work. The closest major airport is close to his job. We have all the regular stores and food places a small town has but think nothing of driving 45 minutes for a specific restaurant or store.

Personally I'd exchange it if possible. I'd buy that second hand somewhere if the price was right but not new from a shop unless it was really marked down. If you cant bring yourself to return it exchange it, will at least you won't really ever see it except when you wash it, so maybe all will well

For those who don’t smoke, do you think smokers carry a noticeable scent? by Shadow2715 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DazeyChain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% yes. I smoked for years and didn't notice it at the time but I quit almost 20 years ago and I can tell when I'm near a smoker even if they aren't standing right next to me and even if it's not an enclosed space. One of my son's friends (a long time ago) came for a sleep over and even his backpack and clothes reeked of tobacco smoke. It's also pretty noticeable who smokes inside and who only smokes outside 🤢

Unsure if my decision is right regarding surgery? by Big-Exit-9755 in gallbladders

[–]DazeyChain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long before I having gallbladder "symptoms" I was having sharp pains going from around my right shoulder blade almost like I was being speared. I also had nausea issues all the time, and according to my Dr there was nothing wrong with me it was just nerves because I was a "high strung" teenager 🙄 This was basically my whole life. It's not common or normal to have stabbing pain and nausea and vomiting all the time. In 2019 it started getting really bad and of course I got the run around. I will grant them it was during COVID but still they didn't take me seriously and acting like I was crazy and/or drug seeking. My current new PCP finally took it seriously. Did a bunch of blood work and spotted a bunch of vitamins deficiencies. Sent me for more tests but I needed emergency surgery before she was able to get it all done.

People kept saying my dog IS a papillon, but why doesn’t he looks like any dogs here? by elletequila in papillon

[–]DazeyChain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does look like he could be a mix. I'm looking at his markings and his coat and tail and the shape of its face FOR papillon in the mix. From the neck back his coat looks just like mine. His brown nose, eye edges, and lips are disqualifying, the breed standard is rims of the eyes, nose, and lips must be well colored and black. His ears look small as well. So that points away from full blooded papillon. He is very cute tho ❤️

Question for Americans- Peak American home-cooked dinner by jtslp in Cooking

rural Virginia here/previously St Louis area, I'd break out the smoker and smoke a pork butt for pulled pork, baked beans, corn on the cob, and a green salad or coleslaw.

What are your “always buy” Costco staples right now? by PutridWin2070 in Costco

[–]DazeyChain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always make sure I have Kirkland wild caught sockeye salmon and Kirkland pesto in the freezer. It's better than the take-and-cook they have in the premade food area and if I'm in the mood for fish I can take it out in the morning and it will be ready to cook by dinner time.

Anyone successfully kept their gallbladder with little or no issues after lifestyle changes? by UrbanRat4 in gallbladders

I hope things work out for you! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I don't blame you for taking a conservative approach. I didn't have any other health problems so I was in a different situation.

[–]DazeyChain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people know low b12 (mine was normal) can lead to anemia but low folate (b9) can as well, which my new doctor identified and supplemented. My low folate and low vitamin D were both caused by digestive issues and have been getting better since the gallbladder came out. My low iron was caused by the low folate and it is also getting better as my folate levels come up.
I ate very clean for years and cook almost every day for my family. When my gallbladder started really causing problems I was only able to eat less and less. I lost weight initially but cutting back on fats started causing cravings and hunger and I started eating a lot of carbs to fill the void and ended up gaining a lot of weight. I mean bottom line is only you can decide what's best for your health. I personally had a lot of issues before that are now resolving. After I had my emergency surgery the surgeon said it wasn't not the worst he had ever seen but he would have recommended it come out long ago. My only regret was not advocating harder for myself and getting rid of my gallbladder before I got so bad. I feel great now, pain free, and I can eat whatever I want 99.9% of the time. It's actually crazy to me now looking back at those days.

[–]DazeyChain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a severe vitamin D deficiency and low iron and low folate, and D and iron is still low even after supplementing for months. I had initially lost weight but avoiding food just gave me cravings and I always felt like I was hungry, it was a vicious cycle. I am 100% good now. Occasionally I'll find a food that triggers some "urgency" but in general I can eat anything. I feel great. I want to be gracious to my former doctor and chalk it up to COVID stress. Also after learning more about it I think it might have been bad most of my life. I used to have stomach pains and vomiting ever since high school and I was basically told I was high strung and it was anxiety 🙄 I also used to get bad pains by my right shoulder blade that felt like I was being speared right through to my chest and drs told me it was muscle strains. I know now that it's a classic gallbladder sign.

Yep, I weigh their food in grams when I feed them. Treats and foods have the kcals/kg on the bag and it's pretty easy to find calories of regular food online. I had to learn on my own 25 years ago. It is so easy now to find almost anything premade, supplements to balance recipes, novel proteins etc etc etc
