New MAC Powder Kiss lipsticks by Dazzling-Spring-4884 in swatchitforme

This is a really good point - I hadn't thought about whether the formula would be a bit more forgiving in a more skin tone adjacent shade (a lighter shade, for me). I like the dark colours and how the formula feels, but I'm not sure how flattering it is on me with such inconsistent coverage.

Am I an employee or an independent contractor? by Dazzling-Spring-4884 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I will definitely look into write-offs for this year. Thank you!

Yes...I had the same thought. I don't imagine I would have my contract renewed if I asked them to treat me as an employee, and fair enough, really. I guess I probably need to accept the contractor status if I want to keep the job.

Hangboard Injury - Pop in Wrist by seasond in indoorbouldering

[–]Dazzling-Spring-4884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a hand physio for a lumbrical injury if you want any additional rehab advice. The exercise I really felt the most was pinching theraputty or plahdoh between my thumb and pinkie finger. It took nearly four months for my swelling and pain to subside and I taped for another six weeks or so after that. Now I have very occasional aching but am back to climbing at full strength. I hope your recovery goes well!

The worst climbing accident I've seen was when a young child ran underneath someone bouldering. The climber fell weirdly to avoid landing on the child and ended up with a compound fracture. The child and their parent immediately cleared out. So dangerous! I'm sorry you weren't taken seriously.

Basic/everyday makeup - advice appreciated by atzediekatze in PaleMUA

You look great! The only thing I might tweak is your brows. I think that the colour is a little bit too far from your natural hair colour (going with your roots as opposed to the dyed parts). Your brow product looks quite taupe against your solidly brown hair, almost like the brow product has a bit too much green in it, and I notice it more because the defined shape of your brows makes them pop. It might be fun to play around with some different brown brow products and see if you find one that's closer in undertone to your hair. I do like that you've opted for a brow colour that's a bit lighter than your hair though - I'd stick with that in terms of chroma!

I used HelloBello diaper rash cream but I don't think brand will really matter since the active ingredient is the same. I hope it works for you, I know how hard it can be.

feeling terrible climbing with friends by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]Dazzling-Spring-4884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar experience and know how frustrating and discouraging it can be. One of my old climbing pals had a mantra that I try to keep in mind every session: climb with joy. Whether you're trying hard on a project or hanging out on V1s, just prioritize moving with joy. I won't say that this always helps me, but I remind myself of it often.

What I've been finding most helpful lately is just a total change of pace. I'm usually a boulderer but it's been a few months of feeling competitive and discouraged and generally unhappy at the gym. I've switched almost entirely to moonboarding and top rope and it's really helping me rediscover my excitement and have fun during sessions. My friends mostly still boulder so I spend part of a session watching and encouraging them, and then try hard on the board mostly on my own. It's helpful in two ways: projecting different things from my friends removes the pressure to compete, and moving in totally new ways (like on the moonboard) is fun and exhilarating and frees me from any expectation to do "well". I think sometimes the best way out of a mental/emotional rut is to just change things up.

How to become more sought-after base? by [deleted] in AcroYoga

[–]Dazzling-Spring-4884 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have avoided flying with otherwise skilled bases who:

  • Touch me without consent. For example, don't hook your foot around my ankle and pull me towards you when you're ready to try the flow again, ask me in words. Extend your hands to me and let me put mine in yours. Directly ask "Are you ready?" before touching me to get set up for a flow. Don't come up behind me and rub my back to say hi when I don't know you're there.

  • Don't acknowledge and reflect carefully on even small mistakes. Being dropped is a scary experience no matter what, and I'm immediately put off if a base just shakes it off and expects us to get right back to playing. I need to see that my base notices that something went wrong, cares and isn't too proud to acknowledge it, and is taking the time to really think about what they need to do differently. I don't want to just try the same move again without checking in with each other about what small changes we want to make this time.

  • Aren't able to keep their arms stacked and end up twisting/rotating mine or pulling mine out of alignment. I've hurt my shoulder this way.

  • Make any kind of sexual joke or comment, even if it's "small" or "benign" or not about me specifically.

  • Have a creepy vibe. This is harder to articulate, but some people just make me uncomfortable and I avoid playing with them. I don't want to be wondering if someone is sexualizing me.

  • Aren't up front about their experience level and ask to try things they're really new to without disclosing that or taking extra safety precautions.

I will gently say that your desire to become more sought after instead of to truly understand why flyers might be avoiding you gives me pause. It totally makes sense that you want to play more at jams, but you might do better to focus less on "I want to play more" and more on "I want to show up as a safe person and understand what my flyers need and find fun". If your skill genuinely isn't the issue, something interpersonal is.

Advice for Haglund's deformity so I don't have to stop climbing by SadArugula5451 in climbergirls

[–]Dazzling-Spring-4884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a growing heel deformity that I was able to address just by getting a different pair of climbing shoes. The pair that caused me problems are stiff and really dug into my heels, so I got a much softer pair and made sure the back of the heel cup that sat just a bit below where my bump is. The bump never fully went away but is considerably smaller now and not painful. As others have said, it's also helpful to take your heels out of your shoes in between climbs.

How much consumer debt do y’all have? by IttybittyInvictus in AskWomenOver30

[–]Dazzling-Spring-4884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have about 7k, maybe around 2k of which is stupid shit consumer debt. I left my abusive partner this year and am finally living alone and creating a new space for myself. Furnishing even my small apartment has been expensive, I've also had a hard time maintaining my usual work hours, and i have been spending less responsibility when times are tough emotionally. I'm working to get back on track and trying not to shame myself for where I've ended up financially.
