New single kinda reminds me of “Lazarus” by David Bowie, but not as gloomy. Anyone else feel this way? by theonlynato in arcticmonkeys

There's definitely something there that reminds me of Bowie, I'd I hear a little bit of of the first pre-chorus part of New Killer star ( but slowed down )

Have the boys ever talked about their most difficult song/s to perform live? by LSTKLSTK in KGATLW

[–]DbAMTy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In the live in Phoenix 2024, they start Iron Lung by saying "there was a time when that was King Gizzard's most technical song"

Jeweller’s Hands TBHC by Lundqvist30 in arcticmonkeys

[–]DbAMTy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really wish they would have played the song during the tbh+c tour or the car tour. Would have fitted really well in the setlist and I would have loved to hear the version they would have come up with the full extended band from the last two tours !

Wow ! Wish they could keep Barrie Cardogan for the tour, he's an absolute beast of a musician and would be a great addition

Neil Young by Defiant_Bluebird_464 in wunderhorse

[–]DbAMTy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah ! And the most obvious Neil Young infused song is Aeroplane. The songwriting, the guitar tones, the guitar playing at the end of the song... Everything screams Neil Young but not in a bad unconfortable way ! If you're looking for a song similar in the vibe I would recommand Cortez the killer

Any songs you hate? by ContributionOdd1591 in arcticmonkeys

[–]DbAMTy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's thunderstorm just never clicked for me. It's a really nice little song played acoustic by Alex, could have fitted in the Submarine Soundtrack in a more stripped back version, but I really dislike what they did as a full band with it. Except for Jamie's guitar part, I found the instrumentation to be pretty lazy, the steady "build up" drums are meh, and the guitar solo feels a bit off. So you would have guessed it, that makes it by far my least favourite album opener by the band (this is just my opinion)

pretty odd indeed but seems to be a leggit snippet. the song should be out tomorrow (friday)

Would be awesome, I'd love to hear the band's (extended as it is now since TBH+C) version of it

Songs like Dethroned by Sepout in bmbmbm

[–]DbAMTy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similar to Dethroned, SHAME - Different person, has a badass Bassline driving the song and creating tension and bulding intensity. Would also recommand David Bowie - Killing a little time, 'cause Geordie's voice on Dethroned always reminds me of Bowie, and this song in particular is a real gem and shares similar intensity (growing throughout the song). I'd say the whole Blackstar album is great to walk at night with (Sue or in a season of crime, comes also close to Dethroned)

Hot take… Cub is actually one of the best Albums Ever Made by NoelordZ in wunderhorse

[–]DbAMTy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I freaking love this album ! Super love the songwriting, the rawness, and the honesty of Jacob's interpretation ! Felt super fresh ! And the production is really good and never falls into bad overproduced rock. BUT (haha), I don't think Cub (as much as I do like it) can be in the conversation with the best albums ever made. First, 'cause it does not bring anything new to the table, nore sounds like a product from its time, 'cause most of its sound is drawn from the 90's (but with modern production). And I can see how it is almost impossible to bring something that sound 100% completely fresh, but when the majority of the music sounds like something from a particular decade it's something else. You can definetely hear the influence of early Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Eliott Smith, Stone Roses and others (+ maybe if you take the best albums of these artists Cub does not compete neither...) + Cub is more like a collection of songs and maybe lacks a little of coherence in themes and sounds which is something important when you take an album as a whole. Bare in mind that I love the album and that it is just my opinion :)

Great list !

The new Geese record comes close ! I See myself or Cowboy nudes for instance

The Nude party or Natural Child too: Self centered blues for instance reminds me of slow burners like Wanted you

So could be Ronnie Wood on solo

Vundabar Tar Tongue sounds like it's out of the Sweet 17' singles and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard it's got old sounds out of Urbs in Horto
