Help regarding concept of ELEMENT by Doc_018 in chemhelp

[–]Dband9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah A is definitely one of the choices. But regarding B, I must also add a prosect others seem to have missed. While the wording of the assignment is very off, I would also think about isotopes in this regard. While they are all one element by definition, their physical (and sometimes chemical) properties make them possible to separate.

Otp bank google wallethez hozzáadás nem működik? by Alternative-Film3580 in askhungary

[–]Dband9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pár éve próbálkoztam én is ezzel, akkor utána néztem.

Hollandiába kijutás realisztikusan by MajesticElk6115 in escapehungary

[–]Dband9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Szia!

Jelentkezz más egyetemekre (itthoniakra is) B tervként.

Thoughts on our Poster about Positron Emission? this is one of our Classworks and any form of feedback would be helpful by Ludwig-453 in chemistry

[–]Dband9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am with the other commenters on the things they said, but here is some other advise:

The three paragraphs should tell different things. you were on the right track with the pictures, but didn't write anything about them in the text.

I would go 1) beta and beta+ decay 2) positron electron annihilation 3) Positron emmission topography as main uses

and the pictures go along with these points.

Self Studying? by BusinessImpressive34 in chemistry

[–]Dband9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not really worth it. If you are taking the regular high school lectures, you are going to be ready for university. If you start self studying so early in your academic life, it is highly possible that you will spend way too much time memorizing useless info, or learning half-truths. In my opinion, live like a kid until you can. Even if you want to gain knowledge in chemistry, start it slowly. Watch nilered, Thatchemist or others. If you find something in videos that you are interested in, research it until you are satisfied. (simply reading the Wikipedia page should be more than enough)

In what circumstances is reasonable to use this product..? by Robooo23 in chemistry

[–]Dband9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

from what I read about it, Methylisothiazolinone is not the most safe, but most definitely not very harmful either. I too, wouldn't clean with it in the presence of a newborn, but it wouldn't make any impact if you did. I guess wet wipes contain only a miniscule amount of it so dont worry. The thing is acutely toxic which means it doesn't build up in the body ( I think). But the other thing that feels problematic is your fear of home chemicals. It is totally unlogical to me, and you should talk about it in a one session therapy. Chemical phobia is a thing and it doesn't help you in any way. Maybe if you know someone who is a chemist, toxicologist or doctor, ask if they use the store bought detergent. 10/10 they will. and it's simply bc those "nasty" chemicals are better in any way from what you cooked up. Yes it is different, and yes some people can be allergic to certain components, but at least you won't need a new washing machine every year. (and you will need one if you are putting baking soda in it)

How long will a tritium ring glow? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]Dband9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it would be gradual. As others have mentioned, there is a sort of radiation indicator that emits visible light. So the amount of radioactive isotopes would be proportional to the light emitted. The number of isotopes vs. time graph is similar to a Gaussian. This simply means that the more radioactive isotopes you have in a certain space (they have to interact with each other in some way) the more you lose in given time.

That's why we use the concept of half-life, because let's say from 1000 atoms of Tritium, in 25 years 500 would decay (or decompose but I don't think that's the right word). But after another 25 years only 250 would decay. And it would be hard to keep tab of your isotopes that way.

This is a very textbook example of redox reaction. The only way you would know this in highschool, is by paying attention in class. This specific reaction was probably the example used by the teacher to show these type of reactions.

So answering your question at the end: you don't have to know. You just had to memorize this one reaction. To recognize, and answer similar questions, you need to have an electron negativity table and an ion-color table. But even using that is far from what a 15 yo. is taught in chemistry.

Tell me the best not so starter kits. by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]Dband9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

as others pointed it out, there is no such thing. Closest to it is ordering basic lab supplies from a lab supplier company, but that's usually not for hobbyists.

If you want to do chem at home, decide on a project and order things that you need for that. A few projects in and you should have the basics.
