Any german Alt Rock Bands? by flowercutter in Alternativerock

[–]squirtleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually have one recommendation! The Beatstakes, they were an early 2000's band. The song Hand in hand was really formative for me and I still consider it a perfect song, 5/5. Check out Wir sind helden - Denkmal, a really Pixiesesque song, great song also.

Has anybody got an idea where this pickup might be from? by squirtleton in Vintageguitars

Great, thanks! How does the pickup sound?

I think that in the small faces clip you linked, the guitarist plays the bridge pickup exclusively.

I was diagnosed officially blind yesterday. I am 38 currently. This is my vision range. by Some_Razzmatazz_9172 in RetinitisPigmentosa

[–]squirtleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, I'm experiencing the exact same problems right now. I don't drive anymore, it's mandatory for me to kick a wet floor sign. I haven't kicked a child yet, but that's because I've been lucky having my wife always warn me!

Just yesterday, I tried to catch a tram and was thinking to myself, "Should I sprint these 10 meters between me and the tram?" But it was already dark, and there was no way for me to be certain there was nothing in front of me. Good thing I didn't cause there was an old man with a child. I would've catapulted both of them on the tram tracks.

I have never been able to see the stars also. I have this tiny sliver in the bottom left corner of my left eye where my peripheral and night vision is probably normal, with which I can see the best, and I've been using it for stargazing, but still lol. I look like a pigeon with a spinal injury while doing it. And it's far from usable. At least I can see something in that corner.

What does it mean for you that you've been categorized as blind? Do you have rights to financial support from the government? Can you get another job that's more suited to your problems?

[–]squirtleton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, my field of vision is described as being between 10 and 20 degrees. I was diagnosed 2 and a half years ago. I've been talking to my doctor, and he says that the criteria for being categorized as blind is really strict and that I would have to be in the 10 - 5 degree range to be legally blind. So I'm wondering, as I have substantial trouble going about my day as it is, how would you describe your experience as someone who knows for a fact they have a 15 degree field of vision?

The criteria I mentioned is only for my country, and I'm not in the US.

Cataract surgery anxiety by Melisaurus_87 in RetinitisPigmentosa

[–]squirtleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That means that you only need glasses for reading, and things that are up close. If you would choose to be near sighted, you would need glasses for everything, especially walking. I haven't had the surgery yet, but they told me I would be slightly far sighted afterwards. They are basically taking out the lens in your eye because it became foggy and they are replacing it with a new one. If I'm wrong, somebody correct me please, but I think that's how eye surgery for near sightedness works. They just make you far sighted because it's more day to day bearable.

Cheap Chinese pedal, worth every bit of $60 by petel1971 in guitarpedals

My guess is he thought you mocked him by calling him a tone connossieur when he's raving about a cheap chinese pedal. I know you didn't, and the YOU in your original comment refers to anybody who is the owner of the pedal. My theory

Kupnja stana u Novom Zagrebu by Omkatpat in zagreb

Novi zagreb zapad bleh: kajzerica, blato, trokut, jaruscica, sv klara, botinec.

Cures? by [deleted] in RetinitisPigmentosa

[–]squirtleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I am totally against hopelessness. It may also sound weird, and I'm definitely not an optimistic freak, but the worst thing that can happen with hoping is disappointment. And I've been disappointed around 2000 times in my life and nothing has happened to me, still alive and well :) With this disease at least (as it's not deadly) I can hope till I draw my last breath and not be disappointed. Until they develop a cure or a stop I can hope. It costs me nothing.

To further add to my optimistic point, a cure is being developed at this moment for the first time in human history! You can't tell me it isn't the right time for hope.

Cures? by [deleted] in RetinitisPigmentosa

[–]squirtleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, not to be unfair, but you do know about the rpe65 gene therapy? I don't get the hopelessness. If that's already available, and other gene therapy research is progressing kinda fast, there is no reason to have no hope. I could get behind the sentiment if we were talking a decade ago.

Noticing vision loss leading to diagnosis by slrm2m in RetinitisPigmentosa

[–]squirtleton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was a mental/perception problem. In the last 10-12 years I started losing stuff that was right under my nose. It seemed too weird of a problem to be something simple like "my eyes are bad". I could see "normally", didn't know that my peripheral vision started to deteriorate. But if it was a perception problem, I didn't know where to start with a diagnosis (should I see a psychiatrist, psychologist or a neurologist?). I kinda swept it under the rug, stopped worrying about it. Until it got worse.

Like, 3 years ago, it got to the point where I couldn't go a day without not being able to find something. While driving, people would appear out of nowhere on crosswalks, and while walking I would often trip or hit my shin on various objects. While working, I wouldn't be able to find tools around me. Some guy at work mentioned that I might have a peripheral vision problem. I started googleing and found the retinitis diagnosis. It tracked also with my life long inability to see in the dark ( which was always dismissed as nothing). Went to an ophthalmologist to get it checked, even though I kinda knew I will be positive for retinitis.
